What E said! And here's a trick I use with Reddit and other sites to get the best search results when the local search utility is unsatisfactory:
When a site's own search feature is crappy, you can always go to a regular search engine like Google or DuckDuckGo and define the search terms so that it searches only the site you want. Let's say I want to find out what the people here are saying about SITSA but I don't want to deal with the site search anymore. I go to a regular search engine and enter
making sure I strip out everything but doublemherbals.com from the site address (also known as the domain), and
get the results I want. Let's say I want to find out what the Double M fam has to say about white maeng da. In this case I would put my multi-word search term in quotes (tends to work better) like so:
Code: Select all
site:doublemherbals.com "white maeng da"
and it gives me
what I want.
But remember: no space between
site: and the domain, and yes a space between the domain and the search term.
This probably sounds a lot more complex than it is. In the end all you're doing is adding the site you want to search in front of the search language you'd use anyway, with a space in between. It's really that simple.
Just in case there's no search improvement available through phpBB (the forum hosting software) and in the meantime if there is, this should help.
