If you could move somewhere, anywhere else, where would that be?

I want to build a home on one of Saturn's moons. But really, I have been thinking of this a lot lately. Seriously, if you could move anywhere, where would you be?
Keep in mind where kratom is legal, of course! I know it's a fantasy but it's kind of not. I would like to run away to Iceland but they don't want or need us. So, I will pick the states, I guess? And in this fantasy, I will ignore the cost. Or maybe I should do a realistic one based on cost of living plus coolness.
I want to HELLicopter us out of here in Binghamton, NY. I either want NYC again or so far off the grid the cable won't work and I will have no idea about US politics. I used to be political. Now, my stress levels are so far off the charts I have to block it out and away.
I am up for a Kratom commune.

Hawaii, I learned to appreciate it here in paradise. But I do miss NYC sometimes.

Another country; just undecided. I feel no shame in saying that I detest the US.

Dude, super cool to see you posting. I missed you.
I have had hang ups about this country before it was cool. I feel you!
US has some some amazing beauty but lacks residents that can see past themselves.

Interesting topic. I've been wanting to move since 2021. The rest of my family does, too, but the problem is we all want to go to different places! As a retired & crusty old codger, I wanted to go somewhere I can use my retirement medical plan, which restricts me to Georgia, Hawaii, California, Florida, Oregon, & Washington state. I'm in California & don't want to live in MadMax state anymore as it's in full meltdown mode & loads of people are bailing. Georgia is beautiful but hot, although homes are reasonably priced. Florida is hot & now has too many people. I love Hawaii, but the rest of my fam says no. Darn! Oregon & Washington don't appeal to any of us. So that leaves norther Idaho. Yes, I know... Idaho wasn't in my list. But Coer D'laine in north Idaho is a 30 minute drive to one of my medical centers in Washington. We missed the boat, unfortunately, as hundreds of thousands of Californians already moved there. Homes are just as expensive as in California & it's crowded. I guess we're staying in Crazy Cali. I bought the last gas lawnmower & leaf blower allowed for sale. They can't be sold here anymore. In 5 years everyone has to buy electric stoves, heaters, & hot water heaters since natural gas will be banned. Iceland always sounded nice to me, too. I just want to live somewhere peaceful.

I would love to move back to Niagara Falls, NY where I'm from. Dad moved us to Kentucky when we were kids and being an atheist, liberal democrat I've never really fit in. Now I have kids and grandkids here so it would be hard to leave them.

North Idaho is beautiful, especially a bit north of Coeur d'Alene in the Sandpoint area. I lived there for about 5 years.
I'd rather be living in Western WA but I'm stuck on the east side of the mountains. At least I'm in the state I want to
be in so I can't complain there.

Possibly Norway, Sweden, or Finland.
Or…
Nova Scotia or New Brunswick.

WA state is great ! Agreed hippie, but this time of year find myself wishing I was down in Tucson AZ... snow bird country.

Tired of freezing winters.
A few years ago, my friend who was a Climatologist (in College anyway,) moved from Seattle down to...
Bisbee, AZ. a Mining town just N of Mexico border and supposedly has best weather overall, year around...

There are some higher altitude places in NM and AZ I probably wouldn't mind. But nowhere has the beauty of Western WA (and NW OR!). I feel so lucky to live here.
Freezing winters? It's not that bad where you are. Try the east side of the mountains.

yes, All relative of course... Sitting here today in nearly freezing rain. All day cold rain, for several days...

It could be worse?
Forks, WA - the Olympic peninsula NW of Seattle - the #1 area for annual RAIN, in the entire USA. But Sea and Pdx are not far behind.
Thought about you last week, as I looked around Tri-Cities - that's Eastern WA - growing area of Richland, Kennewick, etc. But NOPE... Rent & cost of living, just as bad as here... I think Spokane MAY be, the most "affordable" city in WA ??

Happy Holidays, Ballz! Yeah, Wenatchee thinks it's a suburb of Seattle now as far as rental and home prices. When I moved into this small apartment it was $600/mo. It's been going up and up and I will have
a $200 increase to make it $1500/mo on the 1st. And I'm STILL getting a good deal, the landlord pays ALL the utilities and lives next door so if I call him and tell him my dishwasher broke I'll have a new
one in about an hour. Toilet running? He's at my door with his tool chest before I can set my phone back down. The cheapest 2-bedrooms I've seen lately are in crappy areas/complexes and are $1750 and
you have to pay utilities. And good luck getting property management to do anything for you. A nice 2-bedroom around here is going to set you back at least $2.3 or $2.4/mo.

Holy.....! Over two grand for an apartment. Where I live is much more affordable, but we've been losing young people for decades. No one wants to live here.
Happy Holidays HH!

Since when did Hawaii stop being a paradise destination for you folks on the mainland?
Wintertime in the mid 70s, so much to see and do! Of course we could use a vacay to the other states. I'd prolly hit Colorado to visit my Sis and her fam. We actually will be soon! So excited.
I would like to explore NYC and the Vegas desert ssome more, used to live both places.
Merry Christmas y'all. In Hawaiian - Mele Kalikimaka and hauoli makahikiho to guys! May we have spectactular leaf and good political health!

i'd really love to live in a democracy again, so im thinking canada maybe? mexico don't sound too bad either. japan, the netherlands, switzerland....just not here in the United States.
t
i'm very seriously considering doing this, and am slowly getting the necessary papers in order, and renewing my documents.
i recommend that everyone, even if you don't plan on fleeing, GET YOUR PAPERS IN ORDER. make sure you have your birth certificate, a valid state ID or drivers license, a passport, documentation of a current address (a bill in your name). make sure everything is up to date. you might not need it now, but plan ahead. give yourself the future option to make a decision at that time, at least. and remember, starting this year, a new form of id called REAL ID is already required to board any domestic flight, so you may want to update anyway. (
https://www.tsa.gov/real-id )
it doesnt matter what you look like, although things are of course on people who look latino/hispanic. but none of us are safe. the ICE raids will get worse and worse. people are already people stopped on the street asking for zer papers. US citizens are already being detained and deported, without due process. personally, i'm white, and while i acknowledge the privilege i have in that i wont be the first to go, i'm standing in the same line, just a bit further back.
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS

really? how is it working out for them? I used to hold that position, but saw close friends' lives get destroyed and had struggles of my own. The places where drugs have been decriminalized here are trashed, but ssome like it better (?).
Would you take advantage of that personally? I would probably burn out.

So I have barely commented on here, I am fairly new, don’t fully understand how it works (though it is totally taking me back to my early teens where I lived my life on boards like these) but I was so amused to see Norway mentioned so much, and also that you’ve actually spent time learning it. May I ask what led you to want to learn it / what you like about it?
I have a mixed background, I’m in NYC, and have lived many places but my main background is in Norway, I have a Norwegian passport/citizenship and me and my husband are currently planning to move. So many Americans I’ve met don’t even know where or what Norway is so I was happily surprised to see it while trying to scan through these boards and get my bearings here.
