PS Also..never pour your kratom out of the bag unless you're planning to toss bag out because this will muck up the ziplock components. Always use a spoon.

A public service announcement: closing kratom bags
This seems a little puerile of a topic, but closing your kratom vendor bags completely AND without excess air in them is a THING. In my house, my spouse was always on me for not closing them fully which disturbed me on many levels. "Moi?" I'd think. "Couldn't be me, I'm the tidy one in this relationship." Until one day, I randomly adopted his method. It not only saved time, it fully closed the bag without any significant air bubbles. Here's the hack. You hold the bag to the wall (or cabinet door). This lines up the male and female counterparts to the ziplock perfectly. Before closing, however, you sweep upward once or twice from the kratom bump (the powder in the bag) to the top of the bag. Now you close completely from one end to the other... Press hard and you'll hear the familiar snap. Go back and forth a couple of times. You do all of this while firmly up against the wall and presto. The whole thing should take about 8 seconds. Bag should be vacuum packed and fully sealed, much smaller in volume too with all the air expelled.
PS Also..never pour your kratom out of the bag unless you're planning to toss bag out because this will muck up the ziplock components. Always use a spoon.

A Most Excellent PSA!
I do something similar, except I hold the bag against my chest and run the air out as you two do. Actually, I close the bag half-way before I start, and there's less likelihood of air getting back in. With the air out, I hold it tight against me and finish zipping the seal, then go back in the other direction on the seal to be sure.

I always mostly close them and then fold them in half. Push the air out and close it the rest of the way. This was unwholesomely spawned from carrying around too many different ones to take in a day in my bag and needing more room.

I do something similar. I bend the bag there the kratom ends to get air out, and then I seal it that way. I typically do it over a table/countertop just in case any excess powder escapes, that way it makes for an easy cleanup.

The leaf I have had for awhile is admittedly not as potent. I think it is my fault. I should be able to keep this for years in a vault of sorts, yes?
Any tips to keep it fresh as day one and ensure longevity and I'm here for it.

Vacuum sealed is the way to go- food saver machines are cheap and easy to use.

I double seal in freezer bags and also use airtight jars/tupperware. It’s a little extra work repackaging but keeps it fresh for years.

For max longevity, keep it safe from oxygen and moisture. Those are kratom’s 2 biggest enemies. Anything airtight works, like jars and tupperware.WhiteAngelica wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2024 6:03 pm The leaf I have had for awhile is admittedly not as potent. I think it is my fault. I don't understand the reason for closing the bags. Does it keep the kratom more potent?
Because I dump mine out of the bags and store it in two dozen lidded labelled candle-making tins I bought on Amazon for $20.
Up until I have only ever kept a teeny tiny stash during the five years I have been using kratom (I am about to change that big time because Denette615's retirement caught me by complete surprise. The next time I find a vendor that works for me I will stock up).

The idea is that oxygen, moisture and heat are the three biggest enemies of any sort of element degradation - it's pretty universal (oxygen mostly because it lets in the water moisture of the air. This is why you always recommended to store things in a cool, dry place). Tightly sealing your kratom *may* prolong the ingredients to a degree (it's hard to say how much because kratom itself spends a lot of time - usually outside - drying out to be powder).
The safest bet is to seal as tightly as possible any kratom you won't use in a year (if your turnover - which it seems - is shorter then don't worry).

As long as you’re keeping it away from moisture and oxygen, it’ll stay good regardless of the storage medium. So whether you’re closing the bags OR putting it into an airtight tin, it’s accomplishing the same goal.

I do the same thing, I'm anal about it lol. I also have a few Waysaw 13.5 oz stainless steel, air tight jars that are great for storing the go-to daily leaf, that way I'm not opening bags three times a day. Not all bags actually seal. I love STH but for example, you can do this method, but after you close them, push on the bag afterwards and in the correct lighting you'll notice all kinds of leaf particles still comes out easily.

I remember a beloved vendor here suggested to store kratom in a paper sack to let it breathe. Come back Steve! The world needs some more bar bar

Well.... this topic has revealed something important about kratom users...
We all are OCD.
My biggest problem with kratom bags is when the zip strip tears off one side. I use chip bag clips on those, no big deal. Otherwise life is grand.

I just store it in the bag it comes in, also pressing out the extra air before sealing. I would have thought it wouldn't be a thing, like doesn't everyone do that?
But yes, sometimes the zip strip comes loose from the inside of the bag. There's a new type of chip clip that is like a straw with a bar in it - but you fold the bag, (again pressing out the air) and slide it over and inside the fold, it's air tight and simple. My friend got hers at Costco, Amazon gots it too: https://tinyurl.com/5hxtuk6m
