Rotating strains?

Post by butters5995 »

Do you guy believe in rotation to keep tolerance down? If so has it kept your dosage fairly low over the years? I hear of people saying that they haven't increased there dose much since starting. Wish that was me honestly I've been trying to taper down. Can I see what your rotations look like?

I think so completely, just like anything else, taking in moderation is important to not build tolerance too much. Mitragyna and 7ohm is one thing and common across all kratom, but I find that the secondary and tertiary alkaloids are likely much more important for tolerance. In addition to rotating, I regularly take breaks.

I rotate almost every dose. Part of this is because I try new batches to get a read on them, but that's probably only about one dose a day on average. I rotate locations more than anything, but being that most kratom comes from Borneo, my rotations most often resemble: A new batch and two random strains. After a few weeks, my dose will increase, I'll start using sumatra, true malay, or true vietnamese for the two random doses for a few weeks and then transition back to Borneo. Though I take weekend breaks here and there, I'll have to take a larger deliberate full week break after about two months. I'll often have other botanicals during that time to deal with any negative feelings I have.

My initial dose stays at 2.4-3.4 and I usually break when I get at 3.4. I often top off instead of full dosing to keep it low as well, but sometimes am too busy to bother and just full dose. I tend to see it creep up more quickly when I do that for obvious reasons. I started around 2.5, so I have largely not increased over time. My wife follows much of the same trend, just at lower doses.

Start your collection.. always buy splits or small bags.. original Indo strains from top US vendors. Before U know you'll have 100+ strains including samples etc. I no longer buy many fermented or sun-dried reds, because I figured out whites and greens worked better for me. Variety is the spice! My past 4 days. I mix cold Ice Tea for each day. Equal 1-1 blends:
  • TFH, Red Hulu / soul House 42 Widi
  • ggk Wild Green #2 / FFlora, Green Kapuas
  • Smiley P. Green Thai / TFH, premium WMD
  • SoCal Green Hulu 2017 / SSon, Pure Gold vintage

I've been taking kratom for about 9 months now. My dose size is 1.25g for TnW and 2g when I make tea. I started at 0.5g and stayed there until I had a good grasp on effects. I found 1.25g gives me 5 to 6 hours of effects +/- a couple of hours depending on quality. I normally dose twice per day (8 to 10 hours apart) every other day with an occasional third dose on k-days. I'm a recreational kratomite dosing for energy and mood lift with the occasional need for help with my social anxiety.

I'm a huge fan of sample packs as it has let me build up quite the collection and really experiment with it. I have around 245 varieties from 25 different vendors. I try to vary strain and vendor with every dose and attempt to not repeat a strain within two or three weeks. Sometimes I really enjoy a strain's effects and I will redose in a week or so (TFH Wild Yellow Samarinda I'm looking at you). I have ended up with some low quality meh powder, but buying samples has prevented me from purchasing large amounts of bunk just trying to find something I will enjoy.

This strategy has helped me learn several things:

Heavily fermented or sun dried strains (bents and such) do not work for me. They only make me itch.
I don't get much euphoria from greens, but a lovely yellow does wonders for me.
Mid to upper spec yellows work best for my social anxiety.
Whites give me lots of energy, but the burns are usually in the shorter 3-4 hour range. If I'm looking for a longer burn I reach for an indoor dried green or a white-green blend.
Blending is magic  Mixing a heavy anxiolytic red with a clean, speedy white gives me a fantastic afternoon blend. My favorite example of this lately is Goldfumed's Pink Pelosi.
If I dose every day I will go bald  The hairloss is real for me and worse with TnW.
Aeropress tea dosing is my favorite. I get more consistent effects, less hair loss, longer burns, and my burns are less effected by eating.

What works for me may very well not work for you. I've purchased samples from some well reviewed vendors on the top vendor list and had many mediocre burns. This in no way means they were mediocre vendors. Their powder just didn't mesh with my chemistry. I'm slowly becoming a connoisseur of small batch vendors.

Heck yeah, gotta rotate a lot and confuse my brain so it doesn't get too used to any one kind ha-ha. I don't know if there's a ton of science behind it, but why not, even if you just have 2 kinds, don't do the same one twice in a row ? I have about 10-12 open bags and I just have them in a box, take some from the front bag, then place it in the back of the line etc.

Thanks for the responses. Wow that is alot of different kratom bags. I didnt know that a lot of it came from the same location. I'm really excited to start stock piling my kratom like you guys and I'm going to start switching up every dose with different colors and vendors. I cant wait haha. I've kind of though about what fusa said in the past about the secondary alkoiloids. I mean imagine the different amounts of alkaloids and terpenes that kratom has to offer with each strain. Reminds me a lot of cannabis. Can you guys tell me more about the fermented kratom?

I don't think it really happens on purpose, ya just find a sale or want to try someone else's stuff, and suddenly ya have a few kilos and a dozen bags sitting around ha-ha. Personally I'm pretty much over it, I was going to wait until black friday sales in Nov. to buy anymore, but I'm probably going to try the TFH stuff here in July. Then I'll be half stockpiled for 2021.
