Kratom Storage

Just wondering what creative ways people store their open bags of kratom. Do you leave it in the zipper bags which usually fail after enough opening and closing or do you use some kind of storage containers?

Lately I've been using rubbermaid brilliance containers and really like them but I'm always open to potentially better containers.

I found it after I posted, I looked before but only saw posts about storing stashes not the kratom people are actively using. So I changed my search and found the thread you are likely referring to.

That's a nice setup, where did you get bags with the white area you can write on?

I had a 500 gram bag zip broke, after years still no moths or any alive things in it. i honestly think they hate bitter and stay away. Still as potent as ever. i think people worry to much. If it was me you can buy smaller bags on amazon and reseal them or have lunch ziplock bags over your open bag that wont close so no moths get in but i haven't seen any in my bag. If your broke, you can just go dolor general get any clamps. fold the open bag on top once or twice and put a clamp on. Or just leave it open but not in the open, like inside kitchen cabinet. If left in the open and not used the only thing i worry it can get dusty and ruin your kratom, unless you dont mind the dust?

I live in Florida, home of the wonderful palmetto bugs. These things can and do eat through a tupperware lid, only hard plastic or glass will keep them out of your stuff.

Now before you think my house is infested that's not the case, they find ways into your house no matter what you do.

I had moisture absorbing packets in my bins but it's very dry here and I probably don't need them. Someone mentioned that too dry isn't good for kratom either.

I don't know if too dry affects potency but I certainly don't like dusty kratom, I like it to have just enough moisture to clump. You know like when pressed into a spoon it somewhat holds the shape, that's just right

instead of storing my current rotation in one place, i break up storage by size of container. a lot of ounce bags and sampler-sized bags go into this

which locks and has dividers so i can sort by 'color', day, or vendor.

for my current rotation of 100g+ bags, which also gets switched/filled again about once a week, i use a bag very similar to
only without a big top zipper its 2 smaller zippers on the top. i can fit about 2 kilos worth of big bags comfortably.

i have a big blue snapping tub for rotated-out big bags and small bags, and another Vaultz container for upcoming small bags. For upcoming 100g bags, I use this

Wide mouth pint mason jars for daily and quart size for storage. I should note that I have a borderline unhealthy obsession with storing everything in mason jars. Also make the best cups.

jealous of all of you who move the powder into a different container. mason jars....lotta glass, clinking, i know i'd knock over my inevitable tower. i've yet to have a vendor bag totally fail on me. kitchen-fuls of jars and containers and tupperware sound like it would make for a cool aesthetic. i guess if i lived in a kratom-friendly home i'd get a little cool bookshelf type thing and do the whole shebang

I've had at least a dozen mylar bags fail, the zipper always detaches from the bag.

That vault box looks awesome, I could definitely use one of those.

I use several of these they actually create a really nice air tight seal I just throw the ziplock bags in them. Easy to move around, air tight seal, and no UV destroying the alkaloids they're pretty cheap as well.

They definitely will have them there idk about the big .50 ones but there will be the smaller standard sized cans for sure.

Wow. I'm in St Pete, have been for most of my life. I've NEVER had one chew through something like that! Granted, I treat my own house, so I very rarely see one, but still... That's new to me!

Also, with the ac trying to keep the house cool, humidity is low, thankfully. My kratom has never seemed to suffer from anything (knocking the shit out of wood, right now!).

Yeah it's crazy, I've not had it happen at my house but at my mom's they have chewed through the lid on two different containers. She has a koi pond near the back door which I think attracts them as they are bad around her house. Here at my house they get in through the seal at the bottom of the door I think, usually see at least one every couple of weeks.

My central air struggles to keep it 77°, it's too small for the house. It's a 3 Ton and we need a 5, just not in the cards to upgrade currently. I don't know what the humidity level is but I think last time I checked it was around 60%.

I know it sounds like a mouse or rat but the one time a palmetto was in the container the next morning, you would just have to see the marks on the plastic. They are tiny, looks like someone cut it with a razer over and over until there was a hole.

They have terminex come every so often but it doesn't seem to help. She has a dog door which I'm certain is where the majority of them come in.

And yeah it sucks, she's afraid of them too which makes it even worse.

I have my current batches in those same bags! My set-up is a little different though, because I fold the tops of the bags over and clamp them shut with binder-clips. I use white clips for white batches, green for green batches, etc. That way, the bags are both color-coded and protected against my tendency to not fully press the seals together. Another difference: your bags are pristine and organized. Mine are all thrown in a box and scratched up and wrinkled.

Palmetto bugs, water bugs, flying roaches....all the same thing but different regional names. And yes Florida is consumed by them, definitely my least favorite insect. I wasn't aware they could chew through plastic though? They mainly made my life miserable by sneaking inside and hiding in weird places, like on my towel while I was in the shower before I got out. They buzz around like a diseased blimp, it's repulsive.

I left the gulf coast long ago, now in a much less bug friendly climate. I keep mine in tupperware in a cabinet about 100-150grams each, and the rest I leave in the original bags stashed away with which I refill the tupperware.

HH, Quercus, I assume you transfer leaf from a bigger bag into these small ones, yes? When done, do you just toss the bags? How much do you keep in a bag at one time? I would think much more than 3oz would be pretty full? I think that method is pretty smart esp. if you have a ton of 250 bags which I know HH does and many others. I only have about 18 kilos total and not much more space to begin a doomsday stash. Trying to lower GPD so these bags last longer. The only cure for Kratom Buying Disease is lack of funds and space and thankfully i've got both going 4 me

You are so right about the cure for KBD! I'm not quite sure about lack of space being a 100% cure, though. Somehow, I keep finding ways around that! I'm looking at a certain shopping bag sitting in the corner as I write.

So to answer your questions... I usually order split kilos, which means I have a lot of 250g bags. As soon as they arrive, I test each one and if it's total fire, I transfer a healthy amount (75-80g) to one of the smaller bags which hold about 4 ounces, so you're close with your 3 oz guess. If the new leaf doesn't work that well for me, I transfer about 25g, just so I'll have some available to retest, in case it just didn't hit right the first time. When the bags are empty, I toss them and start new ones.

I fold the tops of the original 250g bags over and clamp them shut with binder clips, just as an extra precaution to keep them sealed, and then put them in double-ziplock freezer bags with a packet of desiccant. Those bags then go in archival photo boxes with a few extra desiccant packets thrown in. I chose photo boxes because my collection has to be out in the open and they're more decorative and less obvious than plastic bins. They aren't air-tight, though, hence the double-bagging in ziplock bags and all the desiccant packages. When funds permit, I might get a heat sealer, though.
