Stopping suboxone treatment and starting kratom questions
I've made a plan with my Dr to stop taking suboxone after a month of being on 1mg the end of that month is coming up I plan to order kratom to help make life easier for the first bit off subs so my questions are what types of kratom would you guys recommend for me? also when should I start taking kratom is my first day off subs fine or do I need to give my receptors some time to clear? and last question I think would be how much should I take? Thanks for the help guys I hope I'm not breaking an rules got kicked off reddit for asking this stuff.

Re: Stopping suboxone treatment and starting kratom questions
my 2 cents - It's been about 6 years since I used kratom for acute WD's , and that was from heroin not subs. At the time I don't know what "color " I was using.
A lot of times you will hear people say that a slow Red kratom is the best for acute withdrawls because the perception is that it is the closest profile to optiates. But for me , opiates aways gave me energy and motivation - and WDs left me lethargic and so greens or even whites were a good option if I was stuck in that anhedonia state and didnt want to do anything
If it were me , I would get a mix of slower reds for night time and trying to sleep , and some faster greens or whites for daytime .
As you probably know ,buprenorphine is one of the longest lasting optiates around - the half life is at least 24 hours , and it probably won't be entirely out of your system for a couple day . That sucks because the residual Suboxone will definitely block the effects of the kratom while it is unsticking from the receptors . I don't see any issue with starting to take kratom when you start to feel uncomfortable , (? could be wrong about that ). but you won't start to feel it for AT LEAST 24 hours . I would wait as long as your can , but don't get discouraged if you feel like its not working at first. Psychologically , If you can wait a couple of days until you are really feeling like shit you will appreciate the effects a lot more
As far as how much to take - that is really going to depend , mostly on the quality and potency of the kratom - , I think 1 mg of bupe is a pretty good place to start at. (would it be possible or desirable to do a quick 3 day taper down to 1/2 mg?) For how much to take I would say - As much as you need to, - but a lot of the conversation here is about how there is a range of effective dose size and that more is not always better - its definitely not the same as opiates in that respect. once it reaches the limit of effectiveness taking more will have a detrimental effect. My suggestion would be to start at 2 or 3 grams , gauge the effects after an hour, and then work up in 2 gram increments either until it is helping , or you take too much and get sick (just kidding on the last part, sort of , I think everyone who takes kratom had to overdo it at least once to figure out the limits of high doses .) I don't feel like 5 or 6 gram doses , even 3 or 4 times a day , is unreasonable for acute withdrawal - but anymore than that is just not going to help , many people here report that keeping it under 10 grams per day , or even less, is more effective than higher doses - but those people aren't in WD though .
Kratom with definitely help with your WD symptoms, but it will not take them away. you will still feel uncomfortable, its not like switching to another opiate to alleviate - its a whole different thing. You still have a challenge ahead of you but you CAN do it . There are A LOT of people out there who have used kratom to successfully kick their opiate habits. , For me personally , the true value of kratom comes during the next couple weeks and months to offset the cravings , paws , and all that .
wishing you the best , and I hope you check back in to let us know how it's going .

Hey I jumped off of subs with Kratom at right around where you are at. Actually I was closer to 2mg unfortunately when I jumped. I would say there is no magic number that is perfect. Just take what you need to in order to feel relief. I was taking about 3-4grams every 2 hours in acute withdrawal and it made it A LOT better but of course it did not take it away 100%

Re: Stopping suboxone treatment and starting kratom questions
Good luck kicking that monkey off your back. I was on Suboxone for 2 years. I am so thankful that it helped me get over being a slave to opioids. I had been on them for about 7 years. Suboxone helped me get my life together and I thought I may be on it the rest of my life, which I was willing to do if that was necessary for me to live a productive life. I have now been off of Suboxone for about 5 years. I tapered as far down as possible then decided I was going to quit completely and was ultimately successful. It was difficult but I was able to do it and so can you. I started using kratom about a year after I stopped Suboxone so I can't tell you if it helps with the withdrawals. I just wanted to send you some love from someone who has been there and done that and came out on the other side. Good luck. Hang tough!
