Kratom and Insomnia

Post by KratomAdvocateMO »

I've been taking K for going on 5 years and for the first 3 it was great. Took it 4 times a day no problem. About 3 years in I decided that I needed to cut down and I completely cut out my night time dose because I wanted to decrease my intake and I had sleepless nights maybe once or twice and its made me believe it was the Kratom. Well I cut out a 12 gram dose before bed which is in an insane amount I know but I was able to do it with no issues for the most part. After about a month went by I started periodically having these nights again. I'd go one week sleeping well and then have 1-2 days where I'm just restless and I can't sleep no matter what I do. Tried smoking weed, taking melatonin, L theanine, zzzyquil, magnesium glycinate but it still happens. Not sure what to do but it has caused me to fear if I am going to actually sleep or not everynight. In turn its making it harder on me. When I was taking kratom at 9 o'clock everynight for 3 years for the most part I never had issues until their at the very end. Not sure what to do. I dont want prescription meds, I thought maybe taking the melatonin everynight is what caused it but im not sure. I started taking melatonin because I would have sleepless nights randomly maybe once every few months, then melatonin cured that problem for about a couple months and I quit kratom and its been every week or so since that I get sleepless. Not sure what's causing this issue but it's physically, mentally, and emotionally draining. Any advice or tips would be appreciated.

It seems like in my real life, almost everyone is having this problem, and I don't know a single other person that uses kratom. In my opinion, it's all of.the flat out garbage that is thrown at us daily and a major overload thereof. No matter what you think about them specifically, the "food shortage" that people are talking about, the COVID jumble, the whatever that is in Ukraine, clear inflation/dollar crash, and add on top of that raising honest kids in this environment (if you have them) are enough to keep ANY person up at night (I should add that these things have robbed many a nights sleep from me personally.) Its impossible to prepare/be prepared for all of this bullshit, all we can do is stick together.

TL:DR : Sensory overload is a hell of a drug. Try to filter the bullshit somehow.

150% agree with your statement. I have to take long breaks from following this stuff. Half or more is lies anyway. Good summary!!

Yea...everything happening IMO makes it abnormal NOT to have anxiety, unfortunately. But still, I know how worrying about sleep makes it worse. Can't really help because I use xan at night but just wearing yourself out with exercise and activities might help and keep taking the magnesium and L-theanine and maybe try some other botanicals like kava, chamomile or others.

Yep. Concrete laborer is, for me, Xanax and Valium combined. Lots of times I come home too tired to get angry or.even lose my cool. As a result, I'm MUCH more mellow, and I think everything else is a little.bit more tolerable.as a result of that. Energy can neither be created nor destroyed,
so when headed the wrong way, it's important.to find another way to route it to get something positive out of it. Is this always possible? NOT EVEN CLOSE, but I still always TRY.

That's the bullshit I tell myself anyway...

Okay, leaving aside RL for a minute (although I agree that it's absolute shit) what I have found that really helps is just to take a small amount of Kratom at bedtime. Or even (depending on how you are feeling) only if you absolutely can't get to sleep.

Here's how it goes for me - most nights I sleep without it at all, but I do take it on the nights I played tennis that morning. But, let's say the next day (when I don't take any Kratom at all) that night I go to bed and find I'm having trouble sleeping. First I identify WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. If it's just me thinking too hard, whether it's days events or my own life, or whatever, then I get up and read for 30 minutes or even watch a boring TV show, but anything just to take my mind off what is overclocking it (so definitely NOT the news :>). Then I go back to bed and 9 times out of 10 I go back to sleep just fine (even if I've woken up at 3am).

But if it's a physical issue, whether it's pain, or restless legs, or just an ucky feeling that has nothing to do with my mind, THEN I take a few grams of a red, or perhaps a yellow or gold I know is mellow. Because I take capsules (and they won't work for at least an hour) I also take a tiny bit of Kratom tincture I've made, mixed in OJ. I find this small amount, even if it doesn't have the typical Kratom effects (so no real "rush" or fire, not even pain relief - almost as if I hadn't taken any) is enough to put me back to sleep.

I think it's REALLY important to separate the two distinct types of insomnia, because Kratom can't help with the mental thing (not unless you take a strong dose of something euphoric and I find this isn't sleep conducive). But it WILL help with the physical side, even just a small amount.

Totatlly agree if i was cutting kratom GPD and Doses per day it wouldnt be the night time one first. i would always keep a little for night time for sleep as it really affects your day. This may sound crazy but taking a good bit of lipsomal vitamin c helps me at night or even a sprinkle of kratom like 1/8 tsp at night helps when your trying to cut down

This is one of the most thoughtful things anyone has ever said on here. I honestly don't think ive considered that there are more than just one type until you mentioned it. Reflecting on past experience though, I believe you are absolutely correct. Thanks for this insight Kelleytoons.
