Ace, which vendors have you been using?
I must be having a lot of trouble due to nano grind - clogging up the filter and also getting particles in the resulting tea.
Still not experiencing enough from the alkaloids, though.

Re: Single serving (AeroPress) tea
I have a rather large variety of TFH at this point, stockpile of easrly to mid 2019 Sosa, Rhino, Fused Flora tho he does have some nanos fyi, a lil galactic, LOE, FreshLeaf, GGK, Spintripfall, KTC, STH, and probably leaving out a bunch still hahahaha. I have just always been selective about strains and batches and even more so now that I'm exclusively brewing aeropress teas. You can also try blending Crushed Leaf with you powder including nanos.... It really helps make pressing a bit easier as well as give more full spec effects at times too dude.IndelibleDotInk wrote:Ace, which vendors have you been using?

Thanks for sharing this. I think I'm going to get the aeropress and order those metal filters too. Do you clean the residue off of the metal filters after each use. I don't think I saw anything about that in your original post. It appears the metal filters are much better than the paper filters. I wanted to ask too. Have you experimented at all with electric kettles? I think most of them have a filter but I don't know if it would be effective for kratom powder. Maybe only crushed leaf would work with an electric kettles filter.acejestyr15 wrote:

Re: Single serving (AeroPress) tea
I haven't used electric kettles at all sorry.... But yes I rinse and rub the sediment off the combo stainless filters between each pressing. When you buy the combo filters it comes with instructions for proper use and cleaning I believe. I highly suggest giving the aeropress and those combo filters a shot.... Best thing I ever did as far as Kratom usage!!dylanmckay11 wrote:Thanks for sharing this. I think I'm going to get the aeropress and order those metal filters too. i wonder if any tea makers can comment thoughts on using this device:
https://www.amazon.com/Primula-Burke-Co ... NrPXRydWU=
is it the steep, press, or both that are more important to extraction? also all powder would be clumped up in the filter portion during the steep, so not sure how effective it would be, but i was thinking it would allow you to make a large batch... guess theres one sure fire way to find out...

I can't say I have ever used or even seen that device before but seems quite simple and like conceptually it should work. The only variable being if the filter portion will be fine enough for powder or if it can only be used for crushed leaf.flybye99928 wrote:i wonder if any tea makers can comment thoughts on using this device:

I can't say for sure what the most important is for sure.... But it's my personal opinion that the steeping is most certainly important but also that the pressing is am additional bonus that definitely makes a noticeable difference for me at least. And for me, I prefer to be able to make single serving batches very easily... But that all depends on job, lifestyle, dosing regiment, and so on.

also, ace, another question. if you let steep for 20-30 min, do you find the water cools down pretty much during the steep? or are u doing in a insulated mug to hold as much temp as possible during steep? seems like u have a good handle on this process so i hope u dont mind if i pick ur brain!

Re: Single serving (AeroPress) tea
I don't mind at all flybye!!! I don't steep in anything crazy insulated or specific at all honestly.... Just a large enough mug, or crappy cheapo travel mug, or just whatever is made to at least be able to hold super hot beverages is all. I find that after the 30 minutes steep plus a few minutes to set up and press tops the tea temp is perfect for drinking if you like hot tea. Me personally, I drink my K -Tea at whatever temp it is at when I'm ready for a cup haha! Whether it's room temp, hot and fresh made, or it's been refrigerated IDC really.

Re: Single serving (AeroPress) tea
@Ace - Another thread got me thinking so I hopped over here to pose in inquiry because it seems most appropriate to keep all the info and wisdom in this thread.
So, exactly HOW important have you found water temp to be? And for that matter, duration subjected to heat? I ask because I've noticed I get a consistent result paying very little attention to the temperature so long as I soak the Kratom for a long while in lemon juice or citric acid.
So I can only conclude either I have never nailed the temperature aspect OR it is far less integral to potency than the other factors.
Now, something I've discovered that works well for me is tonic water with quinine. Instead of water, I use diet tonic water with the theory that the quinine increases permeability of the blood brain barrier and I've become hooked on using this so I know it must be working to some extent. I know this dances out of the realm of "tea talk" and more into "potentiator territory". Thing is, I used the quinine before with the T&W and it didn't seem to make nearly the difference for me it does with tea- perhaps worth your time to give a trial if you're feeling frisky!!

Re: Single serving (AeroPress) tea
Very interesting inquiry/theory!!! Let me start by saying I don't check the temp of my water either but I know at this point by the sound of the kettle and amount of steam when it's about the right temp. The most important part is to not stretch much past the 170 to 190 as def don't want it any hotter as you risk damaging alkaloids rather than extracting/preserving them.Klyded wrote:@Ace - Another thread got me thinking so I hopped over here to pose in inquiry because it seems most appropriate to keep all the info and wisdom in this thread.

As far as the tonic water goes.... That's def not something I personally will be trying for a couple of reasons. Firstly, tonic water tends to mess with my guts as well as make me.incrediblg thirsty which is bad enough with kratom.usage as it is hahahaha. And secondly, I have read numerous theories about Kratom.and carbonated beverages; mainly stating that the carbonation tends to forcibly suspend the Kratom on the surface of the liquid rather than saturating/dispersing it as is best. So with that combo it just doesn't sound like it's for me.... But if it seems to work well for you than more power to ya bud!! Definitely stoked that more and more people are interested in the topic, giving tea a valid shot, and doing some experimenting of their own

I'd say maybe 1tsp per 4 or 5g of leaf. Been quite awhile since I used juice honestly brother!! I have been using powdered citric acid for a year or so probablyCatfatherB wrote:Hey Ace, all I have right now is concentrated lemon juice, how much of that would I use for a prep?

Tonic water like Schweppe's doesn't really have any Quinine in it... they removed most of that years ago. Only a couple of drops for taste.Klyded wrote:... tonic water with quinine. You'd have to drink like 10 cases of Schweppe's to get any amount of Quinine. There has been some "boutique" Q Tonic Water made, I have a bottle & its made specific to quinine content - PHOTO - https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com ... %2BveL.jpg

Re: Single serving (AeroPress) tea
Hey Ace! Fellow Northwestern New Jerseyian here!
I have not attempted, nor thought about attempting making tea for many years. I am however a sucker for a good & simple tutorial, haha. Great job and thanks for taking the time to put this together. My main hangup, and I’d imagine this goes for others too, is prep time per serving. Excuse me if this has been discussed, or if I’m confused, I’ve been reading a lot On this forum since joining.
Do you have an estimated shelf life once brewed? I know you’ve mentioned the addition of baking soda helps neutralize the acidity for storage beyond 10-12 hours, but in the case that someone would want to make a week's worth of tea (lets just say 14 servings) in one go...do you think that’s possible? Or even just several days worth? Forget about quantity, do you think the tea would remain stable for seven days? I have been a long time raw poo smeared leaf capper, haha, so I’m already dedicating time to sitting down and stuffing my caps for the week. As I was doing this yesterday I thought “hmmm, I could probably brew a big batch of tea during this amount of time...“
Side note, I haven’t noticed any problems in 12 years of using the raw leaf. I’m pretty fit, and eat a healthy diet. Constipation is to be expected but it’s never been anything a regular dose of psyillium husk hasn’t fixed. Actually, I will say that stuff is a MUST, haha. I have however had the occasional second guessing moments over the years of whether or not it’s healthy to be putting this much ground up leaf into the GI system on a regular basis. My guess is that it’s better to not do this, haha.
My second issue with tea is more of a personal one; portability. That’s for me to figure out though if I decide to give this a try, haha. Plus no reason I couldn’t just supplement some of my home based capped servings with a brewed one.
Thanks for sharing your experience and for reading!

To answer your question about storage.... an the baking soda is used properly you should be about to store in the refrigerator for 1 week give or take! So yes I do think you could make 14 servings in 1 day and stash them hahaha! And also, the portability factor for tea is extremely awesome if you ask me!! Pout it into any water bottle, thermos, travel mug, or any other vessel and I stick one in the cup holder of my car and 1 in the cup holder of my backpack..... now I'm good to go for my 10 hour shift at work!! Any other questions please feel free to ask here or you're always welcome to PM me as well of course, good luck with everything, I hope that you try and enjoy this method. I also hope that you and your loved ones are staying safe being the fact of you're in this area and we both know how crazy things have been here last couple months uuuuggghh lol! Stay safe, stay healthy, and kratom on my friend!!

Re: Single serving (AeroPress) tea
Well I don't drink 10 cases but I do drink about 16 cups a day. Two bottles, usually 8 servings in each and I am positive I get cranky without it. I could have just convinced myself of this I suppose but it's real enough that people have brought me tonic water with quinine so I'm not pissy. It's been a routine thing of mine for a long time.BallzDeep9 wrote:Tonic water like Schweppe's doesn't really have any Quinine in it... they removed most of that years ago. The thing I was pointing out though, was where I didn't notice it impacting the kratom experience much before yet DOES for me with the tea... but you're point has me thinking it must be another variable at play.. hydration? God knows there are enough variables in my bastardized GI tract for anything to be possible but at the end of the day I just know it works for me.
Mondo thank you for turning me onto that tonic water there though!!! I had not clue that was a thing
@acejestyr15 - the carbonation does indeed make it "sit" at the top, but only for 10-20 min and by the time steeping is over all carbonation is gone. If not totally, the heating simmering takes care of the rest... but regardless I know well enough that some things need be dodged like the plague in respect of the guts (is that a bad choice of words in the present tense world?)
As mentioned, since I do have such bad problems with the ol' tummy and I do drink so much of the tonic- you've got me wondering if there aren't some dots to connect. Gratitude-to-you for the insight.

Small world! I’m in Mt. Olive, haha. I know, it’s been crazy here, fortunately family & friends are all still healthy. I rescued my sister from Hoboken last weekend, swung by my parents for Mother’s Day. Gave my Mom a tyvek suit so she could hug us all...was funny, but surreal. Thanks for asking and hope the same for you & yours Ace, stay safe, healthy and happy!acejestyr15 wrote:Well.... hello fellow Northwestern New Jerseyan!! What town are you in?? Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions, which you did, seriously, I may give this a try now knowing I could just have bottles made up to grab and go. Decent shelf life in the fridge. Awesome. Reading that back I don’t think I’d be making 14 servings at a time, haha, but multiple servings would work. Exactly, my job can call me in randomly for long shifts so being prepped and ready is important, that’s why I’ve favored capping. Sounds like that’s what you’re doing with great success! I do own an aeropress but I left it at my office back in March...which I’m not allowed inside of for who knows how long, haha, oh well I’ll figure something out to give this a try. Or maybe sneak in and grab that press! I’ll make sure to report back my experience...

Lol I haven’t. I’ve been too lazy, honestly. Which is a slight concern regarding the aeropress. But the benefits I keep hearing about are too good to ignore. So, stimulus money and all.acejestyr15 wrote:Awesome, truly hope that you enjoy it as I and plenty of others here have at this point!!! I’m sure I will have some questions once I get it. The main one that I’ve been wondering about is the steeping. Do you simply measure out the Kratom, put it in a pot with water, and keep it on low heat for 30 minutes? Do you get it up to heat before putting the Kratom in, or get it up to heat then put it in a thermos and then put the Kratom in? Does it even matter lol? If you put the Kratom in the pot, how much if at all do you stir it? (Also, I don’t have a kettle unfortunately. Hoping the thrift store across the street from me opens up soon...if I actually need one?)
Sorry, that was a barrage lol.

Re: Single serving (AeroPress) tea
Last week, I discovered an awesome addition to the aeropress to get after the only complaint I have with it: Time to steep. So, I wanted to try it out before posting, but it indeed works just as well as intended and makes my aeropress superb now:
https://www.amazon.com/Fellow-Pressure- ... NrPXRydWU=
It's a Fellows pressure activated valve. Essentially, the liquid in the aeropress now cannot run out slowly as with the paper and metal filters. It just steeps
As you use the plunger, the valve opens and releases the air. Even when pulling the plunger up, the valve releases air from below, I find this excellent, as it further stirs/breaks up the puck.
Anyways, I highly recommend it, as it allows one to steep with juice in the aeropress or facilitates adding other awesome things to your tea as it cools such as collagen peptides, moringa, etc...

Re: Single serving (AeroPress) tea
My issue with these valves and steeping in the aeropress in general is that I have read multiple reviews of people saying overtime the heat warps the plunger rubber and the tube pre maturely. Meaning, that it doesn't deal and press properly eventually since they aren't intended for extended steep times. The Aeropress was made for expresso mainly which only needs about 60sec to steep as opposed to 30plus minutes.... Plus I make multiple servings seperately each time so need other vessels to steep in anyways....
I just out my serving of powder/CL in bottom of a mug or thermos and pour my nearly boiled 170 to 190 degree water over it.... Stir.... Cover.... Let sit for 30min.... Then pour into aeropress and filter out plant materialBurninator wrote:

So I noticed this is 70 microns as opposed to the o2’s 30 microns. Does that make a difference?fusedflora wrote:Last week, I discovered an awesome addition to the aeropress to get after the only complaint I have with it: Time to steep. Smaller the number the smaller particles it will filter ... That's why I use that filter. Every other I have found and tried is 80micron at best which isn't good enough at times

Yeah. But outside of nanogrind would the difference be pretty negligible?acejestyr15 wrote:Smaller the number the smaller particles it will filter ... That's why I use that filter. Every other I have found and tried is 80micron at best which isn't good enough at times

Re: Single serving (AeroPress) tea
Hard to say for sure.... Ever vendor/batch is ground differently somewhat. And it's not just the microns being filtered I have also found that even though it's a finer filter it flows better than any others I've tried.... Meaning it's not nearly as hard to press as with other filters including the paper ones it comes with. I can't speak on that fellows valve or any of the other companies that make the valve unfortunately, sorry!!

Re: Single serving (AeroPress) tea
My process to this point has been boil 2g + 0.2 g citric acid powder in 8 oz water for 10 minutes, freeze, then thaw it out before aeropressing.
Do you heat up the thawed tea again immediately prior to aeropressing it? Ive been just pressing the room temp liquid + powder and drinking it.
If you do heat it: how? Boil it on the stove, pop it in the microwave?
My method so far has given me great burns, but always trying to improve!

When I did red bubble I would pretty much double boil to thaw out.... Meaning put the container with Frozen serving in a pot of water and heat up that pot of water.Banana pants wrote:My process to this point has been boil 2g + 0.2 g citric acid powder in 8 oz water for 10 minutes, freeze, then thaw it out before aeropressing.

One question before I brew my first batch. Should the baking soda be added after steeping or does it not make a difference?

After you filter it and everything.... And really only necessary if you'll be storing it longer than 10 or 12 hours I'd say!! Good luck and enjoy buddyBurninator wrote:One question before I brew my first batch. Should the baking soda be added after steeping or does it not make a difference?

Re: Single serving (AeroPress) tea
So I did about 1.5 cups, 9.5g, and .8g citric acid. Let it steep for 45 mins. Didn’t have much trouble pushing it through, but is it normal for enough plant matter to pass through to result in a fine layer of it in the bottom of the container?
I drank 2.6 ounces and could feel it quite strongly. The effects are a lot different so far. Headier. Something about it almost reminded me of cannabis. Definitely not the same kind of warmth or body load, but rather pleasant in its own way. I noticed more mood lift than I’m used to and kept laughing at something I was watching that I wouldn’t normally outwardly respond to.
Holy shit it tastes like balls though. I didn’t put any sugar or honey in it because I wanted to see what it was like on it’s own. Maybe it’s because I put too much citric acid, because it was really tart... but it was disgusting. Also, now I get why it’s called “puck” lol.

I try to evap as much liquid as I can because most of the strains I have tried have straight tasted like salty bile. The less amount I have to throw back, the better! I dosed Rhino's super indo yesterday and it was probably the closest I've ever come to gagging over kratom. But, man, was that a nice burn!Burninator wrote:

Lol it was so much raunchier than I was expecting. Do you put anything in to sweeten it?Banana pants wrote:I try to evap as much liquid as I can because most of the strains I have tried have straight tasted like salty bile. I enjoy my tea!! Honestly, I very rarely use sugar or honey I just use about .5 or .6g of citric acid and that's it. Now amd then theres a particularly bitter batch so I'll sweeten it a bit tho!

Re: Single serving (AeroPress) tea
I tried sugar and it made it worse if possible. Honey does takes the edge off of the bitter. I haven't tried any maple sugar or honey, though. I'll tell you this: they sure can't make it worse!Burninator wrote:Lol it was so much raunchier than I was expecting.
