Mivanqua, I have sealed kilo bags of vintage crushed leaf from various vendors that spouse panic bought during the KRATOM SCARE back in the day. (He figured it would store better and would last until when we were in our 90s.) Want some? I have no way to grind it because my coffee grinder is a vintage KitchenAid A-9 from the 1950s and I wouldn't want to do that. (Best coffee grinder I ever had.) Especially if it was my sleep dose. I guess everything about me is vintage. Even me :/

I bought some. I make tea with it!

Was the first time I’ve bought crushed leaf so I can’t compare with another vendor…but I can say I really enjoy theirs

I just really wanna support DTE...and I certainly do,.but I WANT to support them also. So far it's been basically 0 and I'm thinking about selling off my whole stash sans the Premium Red Bali G-1.
It's truly a bummer. I don't even check new drops anymore. Same with me and Soul. Except for one strain, I never got anything from any of their leaf. Other people really love these vendors. I'm EXTRA curious what is going on with that. But sure, I'll try whatever you throw my way. Haha! It's funny, though, because my coffee grinder stopped working apparently, I loaded it up last night and it wouldn't start a'grindin' it only commenced to a'sittin'. I'm going tomorrow to get a new one.

Why grind crushed leaf? I always steep it like a tea as is.

It's way different, more full spectrum. A richer experience. You should definitely try it if you never have. When harvesters throw some in, like Angus for example, it's called "bones." It has its own thing going on. And the mix of the two is super-duper.

Worth a try and my all-time favorite kratom was some Baik Bali from mmmmmspeciosa...(probably) that came to me as crushed leaf for tea, but I got the idea to grind it. Best decision I ever made. Now I do it with ALL crushed leaf.

Seriously. Check it out. Grinders are cheap. You may find yourself in a phase of doing it to every crushed leaf you can get.

I have both the red and green vein crushed! They are sourced from the same carefully selected farmers/brokers that their powder is sourced from. They make wonderful full spectrum teas and that's about the only way I've used them. If you MUST grind them I recommend using a hand-cranked tea mill like many use for loose tea leaves. Electric grinders can get too hot and potentially harm the alkaloids.

Wait..I'm confused. The grinders get too hot but the boiling water of tea is fine?

I don't use "boiling" water for my tea. I heat it to just under boiling where you can just start to see the bubbles starting to form on the bottom of the pan. It's a debated topic, but I prefer to err on the side of caution. But you do you my man!

Hey, mivanqua...my spouse ground up some crushed leaf in the grinder on your rec. Just a few quick pulses, and toss&washed it down. Added a tad to the dose to allow for bone weight...and thought it was fantastic. I am so on this tomorrow!

;)

It's a great way to go.

OR

I'M NOT SO CRAZY NOW, AM I?

🤪

Hahaha!

(I know that person said it gets hot (El Grinder) and so on, but I've never had any trouble with my ground up leaf hitting, quite the contrary, in fact.)

Do I wish I had a hand grinder? Yeah.
But since I don't, coffee grinder works..

I feel the exact same way about DTE! Was wondering if it was only me. I really like Drew and his company,(excellent customer service btw). But since i've been using their powder, about 6 months give or take, there has only been like 2 strains that really hit for me. Their product is fresh and tastes good, but i'm left wondering whats up w all the hype. My wife says everything is good from them, but for some reason my body doesnt 'love' the powder. Batches from Smiley seem to do better, but i haven't had a red hit in over a year, although i continually try stuff from Bennis, Smiley, DTE, and LSMS. Wish we could get some science on this topic!

Body chemistry variations is the best answer you will find on this topic.

I know that's really annoying.

I can tell you this for sure, I recently came across some vintage kratom (a super amazing doublem member sent me some bona fide GOODIES ) and the reds ARE NOT THE SAME. The vintage reds have a sour and unappealing smell. That smell is nowhere to be found in even the best of today's batches. There is something up, and I'm 99% sure that even our trusted vendors are scratching their heads wondering, same as me.

Yes, I know well what you are talking about - we I was first starting kratom that was one of the things that killed me about taking the powder direct (and led me to capsules). Modern reds (and even greens) aren't nearly as unappetizing (sometimes I've even dipped my finger when making capsules and thought "hey, this isn't so bad after all" - but if I open a jar of capsules I made a couple of years ago the stink is almost overwhelming).

I'm going to go through some of my thousands of capsules I've made over the years to try and winnow my collection down but this is an interesting observation and now I'm wondering if the effects are going to be different to me (because I've almost completely standardized my collection on "modern" stuff).

How do you adjust your dosage when you're taking crushed leaf?

If you are talking to me, I don't usually watch my dosage as in weighing it. I have a tiny pink Baskin Robbins spoon that I put some in and down the hatch it goes. The very most I can fit on the spoon even if I pack it, is four grams, and I shoot for three and a half per dose.

My spoon with a nickel for scale. Another perk of it is that a pink spoon is pretty easy to keep track of. I've had this one for a couple of years now. I have a spare in my drawer, but I haven't gotten to it yet. Hahaha.

I always weigh my doses of powder so I'd weigh my crushed and ground leaf the same way. Wondering how much of the total weight is stem and vein..and how to adjust. I'm such a careful weigh-er... Okay, well...here goes nothin :)

In terms of weighing out a crushed leaf dose, i have crushed green from DTE, and i always make a tea w double my powder dose. I usually take 4 g powder, so i do 8g of leaf and steep it for at least 30 min, maybe 45. Strain and add a little lemon juice and some honey. Can chill this too for a nice iced tea on the go.💚

Did you try it? I've never even thought of this, though it makes good sense. Now I'm going to have to acquire some of this crushed leaf and give it a shot myself!

Not to sound like an idiot, but you know you can grind herbs in a regular blender, right? I do it all the time. Make peanut butter with it, too.

I use a coffee grinder for lots of stuff. Most days I grind my morning coffee which is what wakes up my cat and we hang out while it's brewing...it's just part of my daily routine. That's why I use that specifically.
