Fluconazole

Post by Adrumaddict »

Anyone taken Fluconazole for fungal infection while using kratom? Apparently Fluconazole can moderately inhibit the enzyme that kratom is broken down with, increasing the potential for toxicity. This could potentially be a nice side effect as long as it's not extreme. I have a fungal infection that I can't seem to resolve so I'm likely going to be taking this medication, just wondering if anyone else has taken this while using kratom and if they experienced a dramatic increase in effects. Thanks!!

That you were mindful to check this 👍️
The following is if you are to take this internally. I've used that before for thrush while on a steroid which is not swallowed if I remember right. Maybe I don't.

Consider though, this is an area that few people have a working understanding of. Don't completely write off that there is some danger. Take precautions. Do Not take both at exactly the same time- but not saying overlap wont cause harm either. I learned from an experience but the learning is nowhere near complete. From my own experience described below...

That the impact is stated as "moderate", helps a little. Now kratom can suppress enzymes which, according to one paper I have, effects one enzyme essential for clearing 40% of pharmaceuticals prescribed today.
I do think we'd already know it if the severity and probability was significantly high though. But "safe", .. no, actually. That makes sense I think without exaggeration.

I've experienced an interaction with kratom before. Thankfully one of the two was kratom and not another manufactured drug. The key detail that aligned with the consequence, Twice, was taking the drug at the exact same time as the kratom. Powder in water may have even washed the pill down one or both times while they had overlapped countless times without incident. I feel every change to a fault, so if anyone would detect meaningful alteration I think it would be me.

My specific experience was like this.... being quite ill, without any really severe symptom but in bed with steady nausia and really Hot skin surface, I had a fever for EXACTLY 24 hours. Some illnesses ease up with kratom but with this, there will be no desire for it during that time. (in identical circumstances anyway) It happened Twice for me to identify the cause with certainty. I'm ashamed I didn't figure it out the first time but taken different times yet overlapping had no ill effect prior.

I’ve taken both before for thrush in my esophagus from asthma inhalers. I’ve done this twice actually.
Both times I was fine, but as Transformato said, don’t take at same time, etc.

I had to take fluconazole for 21 days each time.

Didn’t notice much of an increase in effects, but it did make caffeine stronger for me.

Okay, looks like I should be in the clear. Thank you both so much for your responses and for sharing your experiences, this was very helpful.

Ask your derm dr about trying loprox. It works amazingly for me if I cycle it with ketoconazole.

Lather up the cicloprox, leave on 3 min (necessary), rinse. One shampoo keeps the flakes away for slightly under a week, (at first use it every day).

After using it for a month, I do a shampoo of drugstore nizoral (can get ketoconazole fr derm), and that obliterates the fungi's growing resistance to the loprox. Works for me, might for you.

I also got a liquid fluconazole, but I never need to use it when I do above.

If you have the patches on your scalp, and if you're willing to shave your hair, the spots of rash revealed by the bare scalp disappears when you apply loprox gel or cream in two days. I do this if I have the patches, and also enjoy a close haircut periodically (shave, grow for a few or more months til it gets on the verge of long and the back flips upwards, then shave again). Saves on salon visits, cost of shampoo and conditioner, clears scalp if itchy blotches. Also I get to play around with different hairstyles like a mohawk, fauxhawk, cueball, Cesar, punky spiky, parted to right, parted to left, straight back comb (biz looking), parted in the middle, with front short and spiked (business looking). Various hair products may cause skin irritation, so test on a small area first.

The fluconazole can also be used; it's most often prescribed as a liquid, may be easier to keep your hair with it, but I find I like changing my haircut periodically.

I have not had any observable issues with kratom interaction, and I've been using the antifungal meds for 25+yrs and kratom for 4(?).
