On April 7, 2025, the Arkansas Senate passed a bill that would lift the state's ban on kratom. The bill, sponsored by Senator Greg Leding (D-Fayetteville), is called the "Arkansas Kratom Consumer Protection Act" and would remove kratom from Arkansas's list of controlled substances while establishing regulations for its sale to adults. Currently, Arkansas is one of only five states where kratom is criminalized and classified as a Schedule I substance (the same as heroin and cocaine), with possession potentially carrying severe penalties.

The proposed legislation would establish consumer protections including requirements that all kratom products be lab-tested by third parties and registered with the Arkansas Department of Agriculture. It would limit the potency of kratom products and ban synthetically derived kratom.

The bill will now proceed to a House committee for consideration.

I saw this, very interesting! It was also removed from a ban bill in Texas yesterday. Looks like some states are cracking down on 7oh but kratom will thankfully stay legal in many places.
