Kratom Smell and Taste

What does kratom smell/taste like for you? Personally every time I open up a fresh bag, I get a pungent earthy smell and it's an amazing aroma to wake up to. It almost smells a little bit like green tea to me. As far as the taste goes, it has a mildly numbing effect for me. It almost makes my tongue a little bit numb on the afterburn. Does anyone else experience this, or is it only me? Is the kratom I've been using of good quality or bad? I personally buy from purkratom and thekratomconnection.com and so far they've given me pretty decent results .

What a great topic.

I truly LOVE the aroma and taste of kratom. Of course this will vary from vendor to vendor and batch to batch. I'm mostly referencing TFH kratom simply because I enjoy the sensuous qualities of their leaf the most. When I open a bag of any 'color' and get that whiff of green tea, I get a little head rush. Your comparison is perfect, dboy: green tea. Tastes vary though. The reds are bitter and definitely "earthier" tasting: a bit like I imagine some nice rich garden dirt would taste like , or not unlike the taste of a fresh, raw pea-pod. The 'notes' can be a little complicated and confusing. Maybe this is why some folks just can't tolerate it. Even after "washing," that bitterness can still remain under the tongue.

The greens, on the other hand are just plain delicious. Again, gardens come to mind, but the flavor has just enough sweetness to make the overall profile Savory. Sweet and savory are not enemies or necessarily opposites. They can come together to make a harmony. If you have ever tasted organic, unprocessed Stevia (Stevia Rebaudiana), this has similar notes. This may sound weird, but after tossing a good green I usually do the "nom nom nom" thing for a while before washing because nothing else on this planet tastes like a good green. I haven't tried the Kratom Smoothie recipe that Ballzdeep posted, but I can imagine how delightful it would be with the earthy sweetness of some Stevia. For me, a good green tastes like 'food', not some random herb.

The whites I have tasted are similar but "brighter" and lighter. Unlike the greens, the whites have less "background" flavor. It's mostly 'Melody' - for me, anyway. When it hits my tongue there is an immediate sense of bitter, but it quickly becomes sweeter within a slightly 'dusky' envelope.

Some kratom is grainy. I don't care for that. Some are sludgy from the get-go. Don't much care for that either, but "nano grinds' are becoming popular so what can you do? Yeah, I could talk about this all night, but I'll spare you

If I were a cook (I can heat things up in a microwave), I would love the challenge of using this unique herb in countless recipes (German potato salad???). So if anyone out there loves to cook and loves the flavor of kratom PLEASE gift us with some good edibles

Lol, I love this comparison. I used to keep Guinea Pigs as pets. GPs are some of the most sublime creatures on Earth. I highly recommend them. But DO your homework before bringing one home. I consider myself a highly-schooled connoisseur............ of Guinea Pigs so hit me up for GP-raising info.

Sorry for the off-topic. I have had a wee bit of celebration wine and the fireworks screeching and whooshing outside my window are like a good "White" . Guinea Pigs MUST have Hay (Timothy Hay). So for 15 years we were all pretty much rolling in it, lol. But it smells the same as Alfalfa Hay, imo. And, yes! I would compare the aroma of hay to that of MANY kratom batches. I don't know if kratom contains any chlorophyll (after processing)*. They say that chlorophyll is a "super" antioxidant. Unfortunately after once stuffing some Timothy Hay into my mouth (for a true Guinea Pig experience), I found that it was completely flavorless and so incredibly fibrous that I didn't dare try to swallow it (Un-fun fact: Guinea Pigs cannot throw up).

A "numb tongue" surely isn't a good thing. Do you do tea? Capsules?

*Kratomites are smart: I would love to know if kratom contains chlorophyll.

According to this website, its chlorophyll that gives plants their green color. That, to me, makes more questions.

Haha! Just joking. I had a Guinea pig when I was a kid. His name was Skyler Sebastian Wade Buck Berry Mills Stipe. I haven't a clue where Skyler ended up. I think I gave him to another person who wanted him more? Not sure. He used to escape his cage all the time and I would find little poop pellets laying around. I was finding those poop pellets for months after Skyler left. Wherever he went.

Yeah, I had to make peace with the fact that Guinea Pig is a delicacy in some countries. I have seen video clips of servers handing plates of guinea pig: They look like big, flat gingerbread men on the platter. Doesn't seem to me there would be much meat on a GP. Under all of that fur they are pretty bony.

And Skylar's poop. Oh hell yes. Eat and poop, poop and eat: that's what a Guinea Pig does. They even have these little green poops that they EAT. It's like a self-manufactured 'vitamin pill'. I have to laugh when I read statements like "Guinea Pigs are the CLEANEST pet you'll ever own." NO. Just no. They wade around in their poop, lay in it, sleep in it. Mine got regular baths.

But they are irresistible when they purrr. It's called "chubbling."

I second the comment about it smelling like chlorophyll, you can really smell the plant material when you open the bag of Kratom. The taste of it is always different for some reason. I have found that the really really leaf Forrest flavored Kratom, usually green screens, have the best effects for me. I don’t know why but the ones that taste really really fresh always have a really good euphoric effect for me.

Oh and has anyone ever tried the weird tasting batch of the royal betuanguie from rva? It was the dark brown colored Kratom that had a weird chemical taste to it, really unique and I’ve never tasted it in any other Kratom before. Even after I would mix it with grapefruit juice and other stuff you could really tasty bathroom cleaner flavor, but the effects were really strong. So I don’t know if it was a way that it was milled or if was Actually an enhanced blend. If it was enhanced then that might explain the weird flavor, I have never tried enhanced Kratom before so does anyone know if enhanced Kratom has a different flavor than regular? Oh and is there any certain flavor I am to expect from trying Kratom extract? I have some 20 X extract coming from legal herbal shop and I don’t know what to expect in regards to taste. Is there a taste that we should avoid when it comes to extract?

I wish I had a room deoderizer that smelled like fresh kratom, I've had really fresh smelling kratom with zero effect and stuff that smelled like old dust that was flame to..

gravystain, id say that theres not really avoidable tastes with extracts. a lot of them smell very different, and very strong. usually they blend in to the leaf/liquids they get mixed with in a dose and become undistinguishable. lately i have found pineapple juice masks literally all tastes from leaf while im chugging my little dose cup.

liquid extracts will taste diff. than powder. the weirdest ones i have smelled are the 200x single gram extracts from Carolina. weird. almost vinegary which makes my heroin-recovering brain think it is something it isnt. the green MD and their full spec smell very bizarre. Most are pretty bitter. your 20x will likely be a little more reddishbrown or yellowish than green.
