Foot surgery next week...best strains for pain relief?

I have three broken bones in my metatarsals. I'm in enough pain already but any suggestions for after the surgery would be helpful. surgery is scheduled for Wednesday.

they've given me tramadol and acetaminophen already but as we all know those don't really do that much for legitimate pain. And that's just before the surgery, I'm not sure what they're going to do afterwards. Trying to load up on good kratom of the green or red variety that would be helpful for pain

For pain, I like to mix red and golds. Any strong red bali or hulu should be good with your favorite gold.

I'm sure others will have specific recs and blends, but for me, usually just any ole' sedating red is great for pain.

Good luck with the surgery! Can't believe all they're giving you is tramadol and tylenol. Tramadol is usually used for chronic pain, not the acute pain associated with surgery. Usually with surgery, you get vicodin or percocet for the pain. I know after my hernia surgery I was incredibly sore and the painkillers helped big time.

Welp, I finally had the surgery a couple days ago (after a postponement). Makes me totally re-evaluate the 1-10 pain scale they always ask you about. Didn't realize shit would hurt so bad. They sent me home with some pills, and believe it or not kratom, mainly reds) has been helping manage the intense pain better than the hydrocodone. I've never had to rely on Kratom for pain since I usually have none, but it's been a godsend. I'm almost totally out, but hopefully by that time the pain will be more manageable, until I can order more in a few weeks anyway.

Yeah, I read it that way, too.

Pain meds won't be as effective once you've been taking kratom - but I'd rather be taking the kratom, anyway. Speedy recovery!

hopefully you were able to take FireK up on his offer? From what I've seen, his stash his formidable and probably has a ton of great analgesic reds from many vendors. There is some cross-tolerance speculation regarding the way kratom effects other opiate/opiod action. I assume it works both ways...taking a few days of hydrocodone with kratom will likely raise your kratom tolerance, the same way using kratom daily for 4 years would render a standard dose of hydrocodone less effective than no kratom. This is just from personal experience. Many vendors also offer shipping options and would be able to get good stuff out to you faster with some communication about your situation. Hang in there man and I am glad you are finding relief!


I laughed at your mention of the pain scale. Having worked in medical offices and having to take self-reported pain levels from all types of people...EVERYONE has a VERY disoriented idea of pain. In a hospital setting, a 9 is pain so bad you cannot effectively communicate or think. at 10 the pain has rendered you unconscious. a 7 is like multiple bee sting/stabbing level pain. So many days I would see someone with a sore back or neck and say they are at 'about a 7 today' as they move freely and aren't weeping or bleeding lmao. I wish we could truly teach people about this from a young age to standardize pain communication (aside from genetic predispositions to pain like us redheads !)

I really get this. I wish we could just change the way we measure pain because I don't like the 1-10. I never know what to say. One nurse said to me "Ok, a "10" would be if you - like - had to call 911 for your pain." I replied "At a '10' I don't think I would be able to do anything, least of all use a phone. In fact, I would either be raving like a lunatic or passed out." When I think of '10' I try to imagine the horror of being physically tortured nonstop. Then I stop thinking of that because I hope I never hurt that bad

Really glad you're doing ok. And it's good to know that the kratom is working well for you. If you need more kratom because of 'finances' I'm pretty sure there are some vendors here who will work with you.

Thanks everyone. On the issue of pain, at the very worst which of was most of the first 24 hours post op, it got up to an 8, like a stabbing, and didn't get below a 6, not bad enough to want to bother the hospital, but bad enough to not be able to sleep or concentrate on anything, even watching tv. Difficult to manage. With Kratom there is some relief and I've been able to sleep. Maybe they should prescribe kratom instead of pain pills! I can see why it looked like I said they sent me home with kratom, sometimes my run on sentences get confusing.

From now on, the way I used to evaluate pain will be cut in half. so what used to be a 4 for me is now a 2. I'm really impressed with Kratom as a pain reliever, it's a lot more effective than hydrocodone with tylenol, which barely seems to help and wears off in 3 hours.

hey man an 8 in anyones head is awful!!!! anyones 8, to them, feels like it is justified. Only when checked against some agreed upon standard does everyone have the same idea of what an 8 is. My comment was definitely not intended to shame someone for hurting!! Just that, sometimes, a self-reported and made-up scale doesn't cover the sorts of pain that an individual has yet to experience. I am so interested in your staying that the analgesia from kratom is more so than a medicine that turns down the pain buttons in your brain MORE than kratom. placebo or not, that sure is a statement!! Glad you are staying under high levels. It'll only lessen with time. And must be good to know should you ever run out there are folks here who will fill that gap!
