Any red that is most sedating should do the trick. especially for night time.

If I'd you stick to a mid spec white,.or even a faster spec green. A red might be too slow and induce sleep, unless that's what you're aiming for. Sometimes a good nap is all you really need. Really any color has his vantage as far as mood lift but a stimulating strain would probably be the best. A white might be too stimulating and cracked out but a fast to mid-spec Green might be exactly what you're looking for. Good luck! Don't forget about adding in a little yellow to your green too. Just my two cents.

Re: Kratom suggestion
I agree with kait, pull out a mid spec, or in other words balanced batch. it means you wont feel to edgy or have any kind of extra's. it just perfect all around. There are times when i want to feel like that, fav one was mitraman GMD, very balanced. other times i want to feel slight sedated with coffee so i dont fall alseep or added some white to keep me going, unless you aiming for sleep. i am an night own but some reds do put me to sleep. just to be careful around them. My experience 50% of whites if over taken they knock me out the next second. low does will keep you awake thought but some whites if over take might keep you awake for a long time. whites are weird but if can find a good white and try high dose , you would know which one is sleepy kind and which one anxiety or to speedy kind. trail and erorr is the only way since everyone got their own body chemistry to every batch. Cant stress it enough, label all your dose for that batch and how it made you feel, get a black marker and just write on the package. we got so much candy everywhere and its bound to be forgotten how that or this made you feel. And when you get back to it, you will know exactly what to expect.

When you say mid spec, can you give me an idea as to which strains would be such? I'm not too familiar with the spectrum for kratom.

Green Maeng da or Premium Maeng da always works great for my depression but any strain of kratom will work. Pretty much any opioid completely removes my depression I don't think there is anything that even comes close to opioids regarding depression and I've tried a lot of things(lol) Opiates and opioids have a very long history of use precisely for this reason as well as the ability to remove pain(both physical/mental) This is another reason why other full agonist opioids are so dangerous and easy to get addicted to.Kckruse wrote:Which strain would everyone suggest for depression?

Re: Kratom suggestion
It's honestly pretty difficult to specifically identify strains as mid-spec just from the name. In general, greens are your best bet, as whites tend to be faster and reds tend to be slower. However, those are just tendencies - you can have a very slow green, a fast red, etc.Kckruse wrote:When you say mid spec, can you give me an idea as to which strains would be such? -Kristopher
Also, strain names are largely meaningless for comparing across vendors. One vendors Green Horn can be totally different from another vendors. Even for the same vendor, one batch (a specific harvest) can be very different from a different batch of the same strain.
You're best bet is to look a recent reviews to identify a mid-spec. However, I think you'll have to find what personally works best for you. Mid-spec may be a good place to start but you mean end up needing something else.
Sorry it's so confusing, and hopefully this helps. I'd recommend doing some smaller orders from a variety of vendors based on reviews here and seeing what works for you.

I second Granny's option. Greens and whites are very good for elevating the mood. Getting oneself up, out, moving and doing things again is a great way to feel 'connected' again. Whites especially generate "good feels'. I'm taking advantage of some white 'strains' myself to get out of the grumps.

My suggesting is a gold variant, for me they have the mood boost of a faster green and the relaxation and pain relief of a red. Mid spec.

Re: Kratom suggestion
get a sampler from Fused Flora, Benni, Liza, or Sacred Son Tea and order a variety of batches, find a few you like, and then order larger quantities.
You could also get a sampler package from the Trading Post here (must meet requirements). FireK, Firecrotch79, some others make dope samplers of the best kratom.
Colors don't always mean anything, neither does the name from vendor to vendor.
Measure your doses with a milligram scale.
Good luck!

Opioids work better for depression than ssri's the only issue is the addiction/dependence aspects. SSRI's have a bad track record and are ineffective for a lot of people not to mention the numerous side effects from them.Kaitlanfutbol wrote:Prozac. Kratom isn't the answer for everything.

The answer to this question is very complicated but the simple answer is really to just try anything. Kratom, put simply, is the leaves of the tree. Play and experiment with the different "colors" and "names". Keep it simple as you begin to learn about this magical plant and don't worry about getting "the right one". You will find what works for you as you experiment with all the "colors/veins" and "names". Both Fused Flora and Bennibotanicals are excellent vendors and offer sample sizes at a great price. I began taking Kratom a year ago for life long depression and anxiety. This plant/tree has worked better than any of the numerous antidepressants that I have tried over the years. This forum is a great place to help answer any questions that you may have so ask away...there are numerous people here with a tremendous amount of knowledge and wisdom.

Hey, friend- I appreciate golds for treating my depression. Some green MD's are good for daytime too, depending on season/batch. I have found mixing G&R has been effective as well.

The majority of SSRIs are generic, low cost, and a low margin business. Cheaper than kratom at a few dollars per month.BallzDeep9 wrote:[ The SSRI industry is big $ dollars, I think they are getting worried about kratom!
SSRIs have quite a few side effects, especially when adjusting the first couple months. They also require a lot of patience - a few months to ramp up plus trial and error to identify the right one. Can take 1 - 2 years to get settled. But they are also decently effective and well studied. Definitely not for everyone though.
I recommend trying both

Its near impossible to answer your question, because each kratom is a little different, and works different depending on the person. Like they are saying a good mid spec, but you would have to find one from the reviews, hope it was the same batch, and hope it worked the same for you. Even kratom with the same name but different vendors, will be way different. I would say like some of the others, look for a good vendor, and then just put in an split order, with green, red, white, yellow, and after a while you will start to get a feel which color, and vendors work best for you.

You would feel it more for sure, I've seen hundreds of posts about people stopping their SSRI meds and getting much more out of kratom. I remember ssri's blunting the effect of pretty much every drug even caffeine lol that's definitely a shitty aspect to them. Now I wouldn't recommend you just drop your depression meds all of a sudden to feel more of a kratom buzz but you do you.Gianster wrote:Yea I'm on 10mg Lexapro and enjoy leaf 3 to 4 x daily. For what it's worth, I started an SSRI while using kratom and felt no difference in my burns since. Zoloft 100mg.
SSRIs definitely messes up drugs that are work through serotonin (like mdma and psychedelics, to my chagrin). But I don't believe kratom's primary mechanism of action is through serotonin.

"While kratom is most commonly known for its affinity to opioid receptors, it also has affinity to serotonin and dopamine receptors [13,14], signaling its potential for treating depression, anxiety, and psychosis"
While you are correct the main mechanism of action is the opioid receptors it still affects serotonin which adds to it's effects.

Yeah I'm sure it affects everyone differently it may not even be a noticeable difference anyways. If it works for you great keep doing what you're doing I just know ssri's did not work well at all for me and the side effects were horrible. They didn't even really help with my depression they just made me not feel anything not happy not sad (which is almost worse than being depressed imo)TheStanman wrote: Gotcha. I disagree wholeheartedly here. The reason why you think opiates are a better therapeutic tool for depression is because they induce euphoria which in turn masks the depression itself.mitragy9 wrote:Opioids work better for depression than ssri's the only issue is the addiction/dependence aspects. Let's not play doctor here. sure ssris have side effects (but what doesn't) for some people but they can be extraordinarily helpful for some. Myself included. If I didn't use Prozac my quality of life would be significantly reduced, and I can give many examples of this but I don't want to overshare. Also all ssris are not created equally, and some work far better than others...not to mention snris, maois and a plethora of other antidepressants. Let's please let the psychiatrists, who have spent and studied 8 years or more of their lives to the practice of mental health and earned doctorates in the field of psychiatriatric work. Ssris have a far lower side effect profile than any other antidepressant, and far fewer than opiates, and I frankly disagree that ssris have a bad track record in comparison to opiates by a long, long shot.
I could go on and on about this subject as I have self educated myself on many of the intricacies of these types of medications. I am by no means an expert, but I daresay I know more about these drugs than the average layperson, as someone who have taken multiple classes of these medications, and studied these types of drugs for over 15 years (not that I'm bragging or anything but I do own a DSM-5 and spent much leisure time in the study of medical literature.)

I generally agree Kaitlanfutbol. Opioids are not a sustainable, long-term solution for depression (kratom might be different though). However, it's also important to note that SSRIs aren't right for everyone. I think mitragy9 was just saying it's not right for them.
I do think the rough SSRI side effects for the first couple weeks makes people give up and think they don't work. You have to go expecting it. If you haven't tried an SSRI for 8-12 weeks, you don't really know if it works for you.

Ssris are but one of many different antidepressants. There are also snris, maois, amitriptyline which is an antidepressant and nerve pain medication, and plenty of others. there are also drugs such as abilify and rexulti which can be used in conjunction with antidepressants which can be used to supplement the effects of the antidepressant. Examples include abilify, rexulti, and other antipsychotics such as olanzapine (zyprexa), haloperidol (haldol), quetiapine (Seroquel), mirtazapine (remeron), and risperidone (risperdal). Granted, some of these antipsychotics do carry certain side effects, most notably weight gain, but there's a trade-off. Would you rather be functional and sane and weigh a little bit more, or go on about your life with the same symptoms as you've been used to? It all depends on your level of bipolar and psychosis. I'm not here to offer any medical advice, but this would be a good thing to consult your psychiatrist with. Some negative side effects are worth it in the long run. It's just a matter of quality of life. Also worth noting is that some of these antipsychotics / bipolar medications carry less side effects than others. Again, this is something that you would want to consult your GP about. I'm most certainly not here to dole out any medical advice. It is also worth doing your own research in preparation for a possible psychiatric visit. These are just my two cents, please take them with a grain of salt.
I also agree that you need to give at least 6 weeks of daily antidepressant use to get full benefits from it. The longer the better. If you only take it for two weeks and don't notice any effects and give up on it then nothing is going to work for you properly.

I took them(paxil)for 6 months and it made my depression worse and was horrible to get off(brain zaps my old friend). I'm just giving my experience with ssri's either way you're still essentially doing the same exact thing, covering up the side effects from depression. The majority of people do not have a legitimate "chemical imbalance" they are simply unsatisfied or bored with their current life styles and modernity. Both ssri's and opioids are a bandaid for depression both will potentially work but are going to be bad in the long run for most people, they do not get to the root cause of most peoples depression. Now for those that legitimately have a genetic brain chemistry issue I can see the benefit of SSRI's the problem is everyone gets told they have a chemical imbalance now and that their life styles are in no way a cause or a reason for feeling depressed and unsatisfied. There's no denying anti-depression meds make a fuck ton of money for this industry.Kaitlanfutbol wrote:Ssris are but one of many different antidepressants. Big pharma does make a boatload of $ and driving the industry, but for people who are depressed meds is something easy to do to make a start out of depression. Obviously it doesn't work for everyone and I am suspicious of the testing they do, but if you're in that hellhole of depression or even worse, psychosis, start the meds. Then ASAP explore all the avenues like therapy, exercise, forming friendships, support groups, etc. You're pretty much right on, meds should be temporary; I think first, like the pressure you put on an open wound, then apply the cleansing agents, put sutures, bandages, etc. Meds shouldn't be the only treatment.mitragy9 wrote:I took them(effexor)for 6 months and it made my depression worse and was horrible to get off. It is so frustrating that current education curricula doesn't explore these mental health necessities. I had to do too much digging to find some of these solutions. For fucks sake!! These should not be treated as secrets.
