I've been under the impression that kratom stays good for years is this True.?
I have some close to 3 yrs old now in my jars with silica that are just as great as the day I opened the bag,but is it slowly losing potency? Say it ain't so. I also have many keys unopened for the kratom apocalypse,Im keeping everything in a cold dark cabinet jars and unopened vendor bags.
I freaking live kratom its truly my pleasure and obsession to try many vendors but also to collect it.
I ve seen this question so many times but figured I d bring it to the experts who can give me solid reasons or explanation that what I ve experienced and believe is true.

Weve recently been discussing this as well and w so uld love a good answer with some science behind it. Thats the big question is it losing alkaloids over time and which alkaloids are lost the fastest.
I wonder if there is any science when it comes to your question. I was surprised not to see any vendors chiming in. Seems to me they might know a bit about this since they, themselves, might have some product for a while. Or, at the very least, feedback from customers/ fellow vendors. Anything else would be anecdotal, I suppose; but there's nothing wrong with that! "Anecdotal" is often sufficient until science steps in and - basically - reassures us.

Well, there it is! At least 3 years after opening the bag? (But probably more). I have read accounts from people who have buried cannisters of kratom in the backyard because they were afraid of being found out, only to unearth it years later and find it even better. I just never hear people saying that their kratom lost potency. I actually left a small bag open for a couple of months and it was still fine.
I have sealed bags that are 5 years old and they are still good when I open them. I have opened bags that are 3 years old and they are still as potent as when I opened them. The only thing I’ve noticed is that the light will darken the powder over time but I don’t notice any loss in potency. I have a big plastic bin-o-kratom that’s about 20” x 36” and about 16” tall. There are maybe up to 20 kilos in there and half the bags are open. The bags are anywhere from 10g - 250g. I keep the bin on the floor of my walk-in clothes closet. It’s coolest at the lowest level of my home, a 1st floor bedroom. The door to the closet is usually closed and the light is off most of the time. That’s essentially my storage method and it seems to work great.
Makes for fine insulation for your walls and attic btw.

It sure does last. I've thought that one or two lost their edge. I forgot which ones they were so something changed since.
Thing is - people change more & faster than kratom, kept dry, sealed and in the dark decomposes. Someone on reddit a few years ago- had access to a lab. Abused some kratom in ways you wouldn't & analysis came back like it was almost untouched. Something else could change, sure. It seems more likely something could happen to it before it just stops working. Just keep surplus bone dry.
I have stuff going on 5 years- and it still works. I wont be surprised if the charm fades if I keep any long enough but if it does, who'se to say it's not me that faded first?
That case, just try it again next season.
4 days ago I dug out an old bag of Gaia Red Hulu from 2016. Wow, I think that was better than when I first bought it! I keep all my kratom in the basement where it's dark all the time. I've noticed all my kratom is changing color - some are turning a bright yellow & others are turning dark brown. They're all in sealed bags so it isn't likely to be water absorption, & being dark it's not going to be from light. There must be something in the kratom that reacts with itself over time.
Old brown kratom can still be fire, but the fresh stuff usually is enjoyable to consume and you can notice all the nuances of flavors like when comparing craft beer IMO.
To be COMPLETELY honest (not that I would lie regardless) , I still get into mylar bags from October 2018 and they are just as great as the day I first got them. I am definitely willing to lab test for potency the same batches we have had over the last year here in a couple years to see how things have changed. I am keeping a kratom "archive" with all the batches since August 2019.
You all are the best,how cool is that Lucky Herbal testing it.I ll be checking back on that. I t makes me so happy,just having so much excellent leaf, So I'm definitely gonna keep on collecting as much as I can cause it just makes me so dang happy.
I pulled out a batch that is probably 9 months old, and the bag was slightly ripped so I just put the bag into a ziplock and stored it away, and this is one of the best burns I've had in awhile. So even in less than stellar storing circumstances, I can say for sure that after 9 months its still as good (feels better actually) than the day that I opened it.
