Strain type advice-mystic island
Hello! New to this forum and hoping to get some advice.
So basically I’ve been ordering from one of the rip-off companies for quite some time (coastline and Kratora) and thankfully found this site and much better vendors.
I usually take a big spoonful of red Bali twice a day. Is there another blend I should try for the same results with less powder?
And as far as mystic island, does anyone know of a blend that is similar, effect wise?
They have red Bali but if there is something better I’d love to check it out.
Thanks

Welcome Rat999salad!
The first thing that strikes me about your post is that you are definitely going to have to recalibrate your doses when you start getting reliable leaf in: "a big spoonful" strikes me as being anywhere from 6-12 grams, depending on the density and the spoon, and you may find that you get far better results with much LESS kratom once you start trying "known good" strains and vendors.
And it doesn't have to be just Red Bali; try a number of different vein colors and strains. Reds are definitely the best for pain, if that's your goal, but they're all good. But if you start off at 10g with a potent leaf after taking what might have been much weaker stuff, you're likely to get more in the way of wobbles than anything good out of it.
There is a FAQ section here on the board; I would suggest you read through it when you find time so you can get the most out of your leaf! But the two sections I would recommend most to you right now are the ones on finding your own starting dose (this will work for you even though you've been using kratom already) and how to measure kratom.
The funny thing about kratom is that you can often get better results out of less leaf, but it really takes knowing your optimal dose in grams to be able to make it work really well for you. So when you try some better leaf -- here is a list of vendors that offer samples, my personal favorites at the moment are K-OG, Herbal RVA, and Mystic Island, though they're all good -- be sure to have a scale on hand so that you can start over with the good leaf the right way. This is the one I use, but there are many others on Amazon and elsewhere that are cheap and effective, usually less than $10.
I started with kratom measuring with spoons, but I honestly did not get the best or the most out of it until I became diligent about weighing out each dose. These days I can dial in the exact dose I want or need at that time on that day, and not have to guess how it's going to hit. Suffice it to say, I think you'll end up retiring the spoon.
Looks like I wrote a book, but that's what you need to know going forward. Read the linked info and learn a bit more before you make your next purchase; that will make your shopping a lot easier. Good luck!

Welcome to the forum!
Do you prefer sedating reds or faster reds?
Mystic Island has Vampire and Ruby blends which are red-based blends that are similar to red bali. Both are fairly relaxing, but not sedating. They might even have red bali in them.Rat999salad wrote:I usually take a big spoonful of red Bali twice a day. Is there another blend I should try for the same results with less powder?

I just wanted to say I like Mystic's Mermaid which is another red blend i believe. I have had luck with the Red Sumatra, Bentuangie, each nice and the blends mentioned above, the ever so popular Vampire and well spoken Ruby. These guys are great for quality leaf for a good price. My only complaint is what strains are in their blends?! I guess we can't know everything hey. And this is why I love this place, Whiffy you are so goooood. That's the scale I use and dialing in your dose is the most crucial aspect of everything besides strain rotation. Enjoy enjoy!

Heh, thanks! I honestly didn't think a scale would make that big a difference, but it's like night and day. Even though it's kind of a pain in the ass, I'd never go back, and I never skip it no matter how much of a hurry I'm in. I literally can't say it enough: USE A SCALE! It makes SOOOO much difference. Thanks for helping me preach it!And this is why I love this place, Whiffy you are so goooood. Awesome thank you so much.
I’ll definitely start using a scale and check the links you left.
As far as strains go, I’ve just always liked the red Bali the most (of what I’ve had)
I’ve only really tried green maylay (?) besides that and it just wasn’t for me.

Got a scale and turns out yes, I’ve been taking about 6g’s twice a day.
Now my question is, how much of a difference is mystic island to coastline? Just curious if anyone out there has had both
