Pain relief strain recs for a newbie?

Hi y'all. I've been reading about kratom for a while now and have yet to try it, but I'm definitely being pushed to that point given the insane cost of CBD (which has helped me for sure, but frankly I'm below the poverty line and can't keep shelling out 60-70 bucks a bottle every month). Due to the incredible praise I've heard for kratom from other sufferers of chronic pain, I'm finally going to take the leap! I'm looking at 7ohm and Botanical Bunny as far as vendors go, and I've sent a message to 7ohm's Steve asking for his own recommendations, but in the meantime I hope it's okay if I ask you guys, too.
I've heard that I should be going for reds, but does it get more specific than that? I've also been searching things up on this forum to see what other people with pain issues are trying, and again the consensus seems to be reds, but occasionally I'll see someone mention a green or white.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! It's a bit overwhelming trying to process all this new information on something I have no experience with yet, lol.
(also idk if the causes of my chronic pain are relevant here, but it's a combination of inflammation and neuropathy due to autoimmune nonsense; it's not injury-related. I've been working with my docs to try and find some meds that will help with that but covid threw a stick in the spokes and we've been proceeding at a snail's pace. no real progress has been made on that front and I'm waiting months on end for various appointments with various specialists.

Hey there, welcome to the forum!!
I too suffer from autoimmune silliness. Personally I get pain relief from almost all batches or strains of kratom as long as they're high quality and potent, but the reds and greens seem to be the most effective. It's very easy to build up a tolerance with kratom so it's vital to take a wide variety of batches or colors, and it's also good to use multiple vendors, so if you can get enough relief from whites and greens as well as reds it would greatly benefit you to do so. As far as finding what's going to work for you, that's going to be trial and error I'm afraid, but the two vendors you mentioned are a great place to start. Other vendors to consider are Mitraman, Lucky Herbals (you'll need to apply for a membership but it's usually very easy) Fused Flora, Rhino Remedies (on Mewe), Liza's, just to name a few. Also check out the vendors list at the top of this general kratom discussion section. Keep an eye out for Texas Family Harvest which is a members only vendor, but they have open events for double m members once in a while, and I believe another event is coming soon, and you won't want to miss that since TFH has some of the best leaf I've ever experienced. Lots of great info on this forum, and a whole bunch of great people as well. Stick around for a while and the quality of your life will improve tremendously. Take care. \m/

Welcome friend,
I am glad that you found us. This spot is a revelation!! The search bar will be your best friend for a bit.
Start with some split Kilo deals and see what you like.

Also, the vendors actually give a fuck about the customers, so ask questions (no medical talk) and adhere to the payment guidelines.
Come back and keep in touch. It would be fun to chronicle your journey. When you become a teenager (10+ posts), check out the Trading Post. It is fun and you can go back to a simpler time when Kratom was a courser grind, 'red bone' and 'Walter White' are not the names of American settlers and SOSA is our favorite 4 letter word.
Stick around...
❤✌

Thanks very much, both of you!
I think I'll end up sampling some reds and greens and seeing which works best for me. I don't plan to take it every day, but it sounds like it'll come in clutch for those days where the pain is especially distracting. In the meantime I'll talk to the owners (VERY surprised to learn that they field questions from their customers like that! awesome, very encouraging, super glad to hear it) and see what else they might recommend for future orders. And of course I'll be doing more reading here
It's so refreshing to see that the community surrounding kratom is so... wholesome? Is that the right word? Lol. I'll definitely keep track of my journey here as well. This forum seems like a lovely place from everything I've been seeing so far!

yes for most types of chronic pain relief I'd def recommend the combo
CBD & Kratom, hit different receptors in the body and, imo this IS the future of treatment for long-term, neurological, auto-immune disorders. What state? Here on West coast we get a huge variety of CBD products. Competition in a growing marketplace helps to keep cost low. I get super quality CBD gummies, with or without THC, at a reasonable price... But just like kratom, it's being sold by scammers @ crazy high prices, in some areas, for example a "smoke shop" located in a Red State... Glad you found this place!

For pain relief you want "strains" high in Mitragynine/7ohm content. A percentage of Mitragynine will be converted in the liver to the stronger 7-hydroxymitragynine opioid. These are both very potent pain relieving compounds, higher percentages of these will remove any pain you may be having. Reds tend to not do much for me (talking about the dark red brown colored leaf) when dried on a tarp in the sun or fermented mitragynine is oxidized resulting in lower mitragynine content. Greens are the way to go for pain ime or "red" strains that aren't sun dried/fermented.

I ended up placing a smallish order with BotanicalBunny - Green MD, Green Jong Kong, Red Bali and Premium Wild Red. Haven't even received it and already planning to try a few different companies, lol. My first order is half green and half red, but I'm looking forward to at least giving whites/yellows a shot. I'm definitely going to be asking vendors about which of their products is or isn't fermented or sun-dried whenever I decide what to grab for my second order.
Re: the CBD, I went searching and wow, there are many, many more vendors to choose from now than there were when I started taking CBD a few years ago! I managed to find one that seems to be both afforadable AND quality. Waiting on a bottle from them now. My previous brand had quality product but was $75 per 30ml bottle if I couldn't catch a sale. I didn't realize how overpriced it was until taking a much closer look at the current competition.

There you go!! You'll find at least a couple there, maybe all four... do the trick.

Since you're a noobie then of course enjoy your
Honeymoon which may be a couple of weeks, or even months. Always remember, "Less Is More" with kratom, stick to your LED = Lowest Effective Dose, if daily then, couple times a day. What I'm saying is, you can stretch out your Honeymoon a bit longer by going Low and Slow with kratom.
Yes, talk around here is all, this vendor that vendor ooh this "strain" that batch, yadda yadda.

It's all Kratom... at some point. imo you get MORE mileage, more pain relief, by learning HOW to use wisely. "How To Consume" is huge since it's just raw natural product. Always on empty stomach. Add some magnesium citrate. Learn the
Red Bubble tek, search or google images on that one. Use the Search bar here on MM. Please let us know, your opinion "Review" on that Premo Wild Red and Green JK!!

I get better pain relief from greens than reds. I use reds mainly at night but everyone is different. I suggest getting a few sample packs with different colors/strains and see which ones work best for you. Its all trial and error and you gotta find your sweet spot. It can take some time so take your time, dont stress out and have fun doing it! Good luck on your journey.. Uve made a step in the right direction for a better quality of life

Thanks again for the help and encouragement
I do have one more question though! I've read a ton of red bubble recipes, tea recipes, etc, which all say to adjust dosage to suit your needs, and you might need more powder for the tea than you would for a toss and wash. Does that mean I shouldn't make the tea when just starting out, and instead try to find my lowest effective dose through toss and wash, then try tea afterward? Or does it not really matter either way?
I'm looking forward to experimenting, either way

Not particularly responsive to the question (sorry) but a helpful tool along the way as you determine your preferred method - these cheap frothers are amazing for a quick mix in a cup (and thereby avoiding inhaling powder when washing and tossing) :

Oh nice! I had no idea those could be so affordable. I had assumed any frothing tool would be for use by fancy baristas and would therefore be expensive.

That's a really great question, and I think you might get a few differing opinions on this one. With red bubble the 3 main benefits you're going to get imo are, higher alkaloid absorption, less plant matter ingested, and as Balz would put it, less monkey poop since the hot water will purify the leaf. That being said, I would start out with toss and wash to find your sweet spot first, and then venture into the realm of the famous red bubble. You should always start with the lowest possible amount when trying kratom to avoid side effects, and also start as low as possible so you can then try to keep that amount as low as possible for the remainder of your kratom journey. I think using the red bubble method first might complicate your effort to find that sweet spot. That's my two cents. \m/

It’s really hard to argue against the logic of sterilizing your kratom (even if just partially with a pour over technique), and I’ll be kicking myself if/when h. pylori shows up, but I went red bubble for a while and ultimately found it too much of a time suck. I found myself spending way too much time thinking about, preparing, cooking, freezing, adjusting, filtering, etc. but that’s just me.
I also think I prefer the slower release while working through the plant matter. This could be my subconscious bias for what I’m already doing.
So I agree with Adrumaddict - go with toss and wash and dial it in and then start exploring.

You should also consider some batches require more/less and need adjustments to hit the sweet spot.

I remembered this belatedly, after trying one strain one day, another the next, etc.

Definitely need to stick with one and find my sweet spot with that strain before seeing how another one hits.
