All the research up until a year ago pointed to 7-hydroxymitragynine as the chemical that gave kratom its pain-killing abilities & the warm-blanket feeling. But in 2020 researchers discovered that the research indicating that was based on studies in non-humans. It turns out that although mitragynine is converted by the liver into 7-ohm, human plasma goes another step & metabolizes 7-ohm into mitragynine pseudoindoxyl, which is 100 times stronger. That solves a lot of the inconsistencies researchers were finding with the previous models of how humans reacted to oral kratom use. The link to the article is here:

Oops! I see the article is pay-per-view. Sorry about that. I'll try & find it somewhere free. McCurdy was in on this research so this is trustworthy info. Well... it turns out the ACS owns this research paper & refuses to allow it to be viewed without paying fir a membership. I tried to get it through NIH but that didn't work. I've emailed the authors & asked to be given a free copy, but they can only grant a person a copy for their own personal use & I can't post it online if they allow me a copy. Enjoy the summary unless you have subscription & can access the whole thing.
