Once upon a time I ordered from...
MMMspeciosa.
I want to write this just to thank you guys for helping me find affordable and quality vendors. I originally found this community on the sub and have subsequently learned so much about this herb that is very important to me. I'm sure there are many others who feel the same way. It's very nice to have vendors on here to talk to as well, I appreciate you guys too. This is a primo community, where there is such quality and cordial conversations between buyers and sellers and between other users alike.
It's just that you guys have actually improved my life by pointing me to better vendors, strains, and prices. Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to trash MMM, but I just checked their prices and its 70-80 dollars for a 250g. I can buy a kilo of basically equal quality stuff for that! I must admit the baik bali is really good, but its definitely not worth the price to me.
Again I just wanted to thank you guys just for so many reasons. I would thank the vendor I last bought from but I dont want this to sound like an advertisement.

The vendor lists maintained by BlendsAreMyFriends and BallzDeep9 are excellent resources. Quality kilos can be had for around $60-$85 on average, and I agree, $80 for 250g is steep. I've heard excellent things about MMM myself, but I find it to be a bit too expensive as well.necrodomist wrote:It's just that you guys have actually improved my life by pointing me to better vendors, strains, and prices. Feel free to thank them, it's okay! We don't allow shilling accusations here as it creates an unfriendly atmosphere where people are scared/hesitant to leave reviews. So feel free to namedrop and thank vendors all you want. That's what we're here for - to share information and experiences.necrodomist wrote:Again I just wanted to thank you guys just for so many reasons. Yeah lately I've been buying from Acadica, really affordable and its good leaf. I bought the "fresh kratom pack" as well and it included 3 fresh kratom leaves and half a seed pod. I cant wait to get to growing. I want to get a cutting at some point too, but theres something special about growing something from seed.e_poison wrote:Hey necrodomist, thanks for joining and welcome to the forum! Hey Necro, if you haven't tried growing kratom before, be forewarned that it's not the easiest, and even fresh seed pods can have surprisingly low germination rates. Even accomplished gardeners have problems starting kratom from seed in temperate climes like most of the US and Europe, but it can be done.
I don't want to discourage you! But do learn and be prepared. Read through as much of this kratom growers thread on The Shroomery before you start, so you can avoid the common mistakes people make and give your seedlings the best start possible. Yes, I know it's several miles long. But glance through it and read what you can. There are a lot of pics there to help as well.
And assuming you've done all that and plant them, don't assume your seedlings dead just because three weeks have passed and you see nothing: they often take quite some time to start, and even then are so tiny they are barely visible above the dirt for a while.
Good luck!

Appreciate the link! Yeah I've read just a small bit about it and was prepared for the long wait, but not necessarily the difficulty of it. I'll have half a seed pod, do you think if I do it right I'll be able to get at least 1 tree?whiffypants wrote:Hey Necro, if you haven't tried growing kratom before, be forewarned that it's not the easiest, and even fresh seed pods can have surprisingly low germination rates. Re: Once upon a time I ordered from...
If I'm remembering correctly, one seed pod has -many- actual seeds. Out of that, you may get many or few seedlings to germinate: that's the first hazard. But let's say you are successful and get multiple seedlings to grow. At some point you're going to have to transplant those lil guys into their own pots, and this is where it gets hairy according to several growers on that thread. If they make it past transplant and you keep them well watered and fed, and in the right temperature zone, they'll grow for years. But they have to make it out of their beginner pots first.
So to answer your question, sure: if you do it right you may well end up with multiple trees and not just one. But you will probably lose many along the way, most growers do. On that thread, out of 25-50 seedlings, it was common to get < 5 plants in the end.
I'm not exaggerating when I say it took me well over a week to read that Shroomery thread. I pretty much just kept it loaded in my browser and read through it a bit at a time until I was done. But I am SO glad I did. I'm not trying to grow from seed myself, I have a cutting that I bought, but the perils are the same and I had a near miss with a soil issue I didn't even know to look for until I read that thread. But because I had that knowledge, I was able to address that soil imbalance before it had a chance to kill my plant.
So again, don't let me discourage you. I'm NOT saying don't do it. But I am saying that without knowledge specific to growing speciosa in temperate or cold climates, you're heading for wasted effort. Read the thread. It's many miles long for a reason. And it's good practice: growing speciosa requires abundant patience, as I have found out myself.
Good luck!

Re: Once upon a time I ordered from...
Also, since I haven't posted a pic in a while -- this is Bobby today. He had to evacuate to another room when we thought Florence was headed here, then he lost a lower leaf to a kitty, but now he's back in his own spot with his grow light and all is well:

Note: the moisture on his leaves is just water. I spray him whenever I think of it because kratom trees -love- that, and he hasn't been under a humidity dome in a couple weeks anyway. I'll be testing his soil in a few days to make sure his pH and NPK levels are what they're supposed to be, but right now he seems happy.
