Kràtom and prescription drug interactions
I'm not a knowledgeable person on this topic. Furthermore, I don't think many physicians are either. But it seems like an important discussion to have. Which drugs might interfere with our kratom
and which drugs might adversely be affected by it. Which prescriptions+ kràtom= a bad scenario. I tried to do a deep dive and only found some conflicting info on certain psychiatric meds. Nothing on anything else. Anyone?

Re: Kràtom and prescription drug interactions
While I'm not sure of any studies (there are VERY few actual studies conduction on kratom) the general wisdom is that opioids and kratom use is NOT recommended. You can definitely take them the same day, just not at the same time (I have done this from time to time - taken some script opioids in the morning, for example, and five or six hours later taken some kratom, and no ill effects are noticed. Indeed, it doesn't even seem to make the kratom more or less intense - just like any other kratom dose).
The problem is that without studies all we have are what apocryphal things we have heard or come up with. I take three prescription drugs regularly and I don't even give it a thought as to my kratom use.

Our youngest takes Xanax, Adderall, and Fluvoxamine (hope I got that right) which is an SSRI that specifically targets OCD. Doses on kratom 3 times/day. Hate all that Rx stuff going into his system, but that's besides the point. So, I'm a mom. I worry. It's not the occasional dentist prescribed Percocet that concerns me but the long term cross reactions. Especially with the SSRIs. There's no way to ask his doctor.

It is impossible to know the full medicinal value of kratom if it is constantly competing with other pharmaceuticals. I am amazed at the extent to which kratom serves as an incredibly effective substitute for benzos, opioids and anti depressants. While I have been on kratom I have been able to quit all of these things, and feel better mentally than I have felt in decades. I would not have known, nor believed it, if I was still on those meds.

I take Citalopram 40mg, and Clonazepam 1.5mg . I found this page at kratom.org that says Kratom interacts with a BUNCH of meds.boureka wrote: ↑Thu Jul 13, 2023 5:46 pm I'm not a knowledgeable person on this topic. Bottom Line: Can I Take Kratom With My Medications
Is Kratom Safe to Take With Other Medications?
Kratom itself isn’t particularly dangerous. However, it isn’t considered safe to take kratom with most prescription medications.
Certain classes of medications are especially dangerous — such as opiate painkillers, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, antipsychotics, blood pressure medications, and any compounds metabolized by the CYP2D6 enzymes (there are a lot).
Kratom has a powerful array of health benefits that largely rely on its ability to shift the neurochemical balance of the brain. If taken with other medications that cause a similar shift, it could increase the risk of side effects.
In general, if you’re taking any kind of prescription medication you should speak with your doctor about kratom first.

You can't speak to a lot ofdoctors because all too often they know nothing about kratom and a wiki search will just provide...a reefer madness attitude frequently.
What I was hoping was, in the absence of really any research, to hear people's stories. Like kelleytoons. Or someone who's longterm on Rx's like my son's.
But wow..that link was a little over the top I'm thinking? It seems like you could only take kràtom with bread and water. (And not even that because you want to have an empty stomach.)

Yep, and you beat me to it - https://kratom.org/interactions/ has a HUGE amount of info about kratom and Rx drug interactions, including a good-sized table with the level of danger with many different classes of drugs.IdiopathicPain247 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 13, 2023 7:01 pm ...

boureka, that's where the table comes in - it's color-coded (green/yellow/red) and with numbers within the colors showing the level of potential dangerous interactions.

You know when you open up this link on your phone, you don't see the color coded part unless you scroll sideways so thanks.

The list shocked me!! Bread and water is about the only thing you can take.

THAT'S what I wanna hear! As I said, anecdotal is all we have at this point. But enough anecdotal and you have the basis for a hypothesis and some research.
