Kratom Tea - WOW!

Post by SimonBcv »

So I've decided to try something new, instead of my normal method of mixing with almond milk, I poured 1 gram regular powder "Red Bali" into a cup, then filled it with boiling water, mixed it and drank when it was warm enough to drink... oh man - the taste was Amazing! it reminded me of tea which they serve at that expensive sushi restaurant, shortly after I felt the effects and they were much stronger, the tea at the bottom of the cup did have some tiny sand-like particles, drinking slowly helped avoid them, ordered some "Disposable Empty Tea Bags" from amazon to help filter them.

I have been making tea for the last few weeks and I’m loving the change up from toss/wash method. I add a couple teaspoons of lemon, because I read that it helps make it stronger. Not sure if that’s true, but I’ve been making batches using about 20 oz of water with 2-3 tablespoons of powder. Boil and let sit at least 20 mins. I like this method because I can keep several bottles with different blends stored in fridge. My dosage is usually 2-3 ounces, give or take, depending on how I feel.
Now, after reading your post, I think I’m going to go make some fresh Green Tea.

when you use the tea bags, how long will you let it steep?

i'm still experimenting with tea process and your idea of disposable empty tea bags is one i'm gonna try. been using an aero press to squeeze & filter. but would like to eliminate that step.

how long do you let that mix boil? is there a general agreed upon time to let it boil and what temp? do you strain or just drink that wash down? wondering if we tea makers lose much potency by straining, guess adding an extra gram would cure that?

Here are a couple of tea tutorials that I came up with some time ago, if you'd like to check them out:

Tea with crushed leaf: https://imgur.com/a/oMN6g

Tea with powder: https://imgur.com/a/1AXup

I created them because when I was a noobie, my GI tract didn't like all that plant matter, and caused me horrible pains.

3Gdd6r, you should have a look at this thread on the main sub; I think he's on to something with his method, which is essentially a flash boil -- the same thing G-otis is doing, more or less. For myself I think you lose potency the longer you let it simmer, but others have success with very long simmer times so YMMV.

I've tried both straining and not straining; my own personal opinion is that you -do- lose something when you strain out the powder so I usually add another gram or two as you suggest.

But it's hot down here this time of year and I don't care for the taste of iced kratom tea, so I probably won't be making any hot tea of any kind for another few months anyway. :D

Here's what I've found out, using disposable tea bag, all the green sludge and sand-like particles from the powder remain in the tea bag leaving just the green liquid in the cup. Even if you squeeze tea-bag afterwards the green sludge substance will still remain in tea-bag.
I let tea-bag stay in, moving it around to help powder dissolve in the tea until it's warm enough to drink.

P.S. And yes, you still get Kratom effect but it's probably more intense without the filter.

Hi Tia. As soon as it starts to boil, I remove from heat. I add about a tablespoon of lemon juice, cover, and let it sit ~20 mins.
I have tried it straight up, grit and all, and filtered through a paper towel (coffee filters take forever). Both ways are good, if the kratom is good. I can’t tell much difference in the potency, esp if I let it steep for a while.
I’m still experimenting. I have some new leaf to work with this weekend, so if I stumble onto something new/improved , I’ll keep y’all posted.

These are all really good suggestions. I am looking to try new dosing methods with less garbage. I will def try OP's method, as I'm a tea person. Thanks guys!

Welcome to the board, Donald Chump 710! - yes I think boiling, and tea making (and boil & freeze cold brew), will all get more & more popular when people see Indo Genie's photos .. there is real concern about sanitary conditions

Thanks Wot! Great tutorial. I haven’t tried crushed leaf yet, but it’s on my list of things to try. Like you, my stomach doesn’t always agree with the gritty, sludgy, plant matter. I still toss & wash, but I’ve been keeping my little concoctions in the fridge...I used Powerade bottle too.

Yeah, I'm not a high-falutin' kind of guy, plus some people can't go out and throw cash at gadgets, so I try to make my tutorials out of things you can grab around the house. Thanks for the compliment on the tea tutorial!
