Why do people hate fermented strains/bentuangies?
I mean, they're not necessarily my favorites just because they're not super distinguishing from one another but people really seem to hate them haha. What's the deal?

Re: Why do people hate fermented strains/bentuangies?
I've only ever tried one batch and didnt really get that great of a response from it (all other strains from this vendor were always top notch for me). It was several years ago and I didnt even know what it was at the time, I thought Bentuangie was a location like Thai/Malay/Kapuas/etc.
It was maroon/chocolate/brick colored and it just didnt seem like the kind of strain i'd ever buy again so i gave up on them. Still have some of it left so maybe i'll have to pull it out of the vault and give it another try.
Plus the thought of them tying up the fresh leaves in a bag and letting them ferment just doesnt sit well with me for some reason.

I’ve never had any, but I’d also take a hard “pass” myself if it wasn’t like the best dam Kratom I have ever had.SanPedroLover wrote:I've only ever tried one batch and didnt really get that great of a response from it (all other strains from this vendor were always top notch for me). I've read that there was a higher risk of mold on true Bents, I've also read that most of what vendors sell as Bent is really just leaves that's been left on a tarp so long they turn brown?

I don't hate bents but they don't offer anything to me except itching. I don't get any sedation, relaxation, anxiety relief, or warm fuzzy vibes, which is how I prefer my reds/slower kratom. I wish I could feel something, but alas, body chemistry. Narcotics do the same thing to me. Norco makes me a teeny bit itchy. Percocet makes me want to claw my face off. If I need any type of pain relief from them I have to take a benadryl as well.

Same goes for me. I don't HATE them, as many people list bents among their favorite strains. They just do absolutely nothing for me whatsoever, but hey! More for you, right? Bents just don't have any BITE for me. If they work for you, all the better!Banana pants wrote:I don't hate bents but they don't offer anything to me except itching. Body chemistry is so strange! I also find greens to not be euphoric. They tend to make my affect blunt. If I'm looking for euphoria I usually have to go for yellows or upper-mid spec reds. I remember when I first got into kratom, there was a lot of talk about green malay being "so speedy and euphoric!" My first GM burns I was all "WTF?!" Just didn't get the hype, lol.mivanqua wrote:Same goes for me. I don't HATE them, as many people list bents among their favorite strains. They just do absolutely nothing for me whatsoever, but hey! I'm the same way with greens now, not euphoric for me anymore, they give me more of a state of well being, but not euphoric like a white, closer to a less relaxing red, I used to love greens for euphoria, I guess my chemistry changed...

No clue. The Chocolate by K-OG is like being wrapped in a warm burrito of love that was handled by God.

If i have the patience to wait, about 1 out of 5 or 6 Bent burns will absolutely blow me away (still remembering my first batch of Royal Bent from RVA
). To me, there may not be a better burn, but the problem is how elusive those burns are with even the best Bents.
I mostly use them to blend with now, but every once in a while I’ll go solo with them- and when one of them hits, it is pretty much just like White Angelica described.

Re: Why do people hate fermented strains/bentuangies?
The fermentation process speeds up the oxidation and converts some of the mitra into 7ohm and mitrapseudo.
However, just like a steak on a grill, it is easy to mess up and go too long at which time the 7ohm oxidizes further or transitions to weaker alkaloids. It's difficult to get it right, as humidity, temperature, sunlight, time of day (angle of light), amount of leaves in the fermentation bag, and duration are all variables that have to be accounted for. Short, most farmers are too lazy to do it right and just wing it. You're on double m, so please recognize you're among many exceptions here, I'm speaking towards most fermented...
It's much easier to get a good green/white dried indoors and not sunburnt, but sun-dried reds and fermented strains are a much more labor intensive process. I imagine a lot of forks have had much bad fermented or sun dried, and begin to get bias towards it. I tell you, I'm bias, as fermented are the most common I can't sell due to mediocre quality.

I don't know much about much but I do know a fantastic fermented strain vs. a dud. I love good deep choco-colored strains here and there and have found them to offer an amended experience for sure. But misses are TOTAL misses making it roll of the dice so I typically order them from only the most reputable names in circulation around here. Since he injected wisdom in this thread, I'll state plainly I am looking forward to trying FF's Bent Kapuas most definitely. I wanted it last order but the Takengon's were still in stock so I hopped on those first. My birthday is in like 2 weeks though so I can absolutely justify another order soon

I ordered some FF Bent over the weekend after enjoying his deep dark Red Bali, haha. As far as I know I’ve never tried a true Bent, and FF obviously knows his stuff so I’m looking forward to trying this!Klyded wrote:I don't know much about much but I do know a fantastic fermented strain vs. a dud. Re: Why do people hate fermented strains/bentuangies?
I do! For some reason I can never get a good burn from a fat whether it be a white green or red, or a chocolate.bent. in fact when I'm hunting for a good red I make sure that it's on fermented that is it a green color just because those seem to work better for me. I'm not sure why it is but the fermentation process just ruins it for me. I've tried many different bands from many different vendors of all different colors and strains and not one of them has impressed me. I get much better real effects rom a slow red which is supposed to be what a bent does, and I've even had a slow green that works better than a bent is supposed to work. so I always avoid bents at all cost even if they're all the rave and they get the best reviews because I know they won't work for me that well.

Re: Why do people hate fermented strains/bentuangies?
Forgot to mention in my first reply, it should also be REALLY emphasized somewhere in this thread that Denette offers some exquisite fermented specimens as well. The Red Milk really hit the spot with a unique enough profile to coax me into writing a review and the Red Bali Strong yields a more conventional heavy red experience with less stimulation than I've had from some Bents.
I think the takeaway here is that quality is elusive but I'd venture to guess there is a fermented strain out there for every one- question is, how long and how much coin need be invested in the great chocolate search??
I really enjoyed this thread- especially the alkaloid tidbit FF contributed! Thank you- wisdom nuggets such as these contained herein is why I love double M

Functionally a bent can work out great for something like sleep, because it's created to be more one dimensional and in the direction of sedation , but it also means less mood uplift, and that to me is why I don't like them. I really count on the uplift in mood, even when burning at night for sleep. The warm blanket effect is glorious, but not as good imo without the big smiles. When it's done perfectly though, it can be very pleasant, but that seems rare. I will say that the only fermented reds I've ever really enjoyed at all were from Fused Flora, Shaun's a bad mutha.

Exactly my experience. I dont often order them due to limited finances but if I were constantly adding different strains to my collection I'd have a few just for blending. When they do hit, they hit amazingly. They take a long time to kick in but they have such long legs and they're very warm and cozy, which I actually prefer. The problem is that they usually dont hit. The last time I had an amazing bent strain was 2016 motark red bali, and even that wasn't as consistently effective as fresh green reds tend to be for mejabro70 wrote:If i have the patience to wait, about 1 out of 5 or 6 Bent burns will absolutely blow me away (still remembering my first batch of Royal Bent from RVA). Can I ask If you ordered a bent specifically from FF or are his reds fermented?Adrumaddict wrote:Functionally a bent can work out great for something like sleep, because it's created to be more one dimensional and in the direction of sedation , but it also means less mood uplift, and that to me is why I don't like them. Benni's bents are outstanding. I will usually take it in the evening. Great warm relaxation. Benni loves his bents! I may just have to give Fused a try too.Gianster wrote:just ordered my first Beny from Benni's. Super Bent to see what all this fuss is about Bents. Hope I like It!

Some of his reds are fermented, so no I didn't request that they be fermented. Red Hilir (Malay), Super Red, and Red Thai were the fermented reds that I thought were just fantastic.Zeedra wrote:Exactly my experience.
