Favorite for Sleep

I’ve been on Ambien for several years now, I would like to get away from it. Tell me some of your favorites for sleep or relaxation. Thanks for any help!

Usually kratom does NOT make me sleepy/tired regardless of the strain (even the heaviest reds), so I'd be interested in some new sleep strains to try as well. I'm always on the lookout for that mythical strain that is going to finally knock me out.

I just quit taking Ambien. My doc switched me over to temazepam. Personally I liked Ambien better but the hypnotics don't mesh well for me. Anyway I was happy with the combination of Ambien and kratom. I would take the Kratom around half an hour before ambien and they'd both kick in at roughly the same time. My opinion is to take both. There are some strains helpful with sleep, but not actually the act of falling asleep. I always rotate my reds at night but it works best in conjunction with a sleep med. Watch out for rebound insomnia and even withdrawal coming off Ambien.

That said, some great slow sedating strains can be found with Smiley, Sosa, and Denette to name a few. Many people will say bents/chocolates are the best but anything fermented seems inactive to me.

A few recent ones of many:
Smiley - Premium Red Thai, Golden Glow, Gold Smile
Sosa - Red Sunda, Red Indo
Denette - Red Bone (if you can find it), Gold MD
Jiminy Cricket - Red Sibau
Sacred Son - Red Boyan, Golden Son
I also have a mix of 10+ red strains that I have in the stash. Usually when I'm running low on a bag I'll add it to the blend. That one varies, but in order to find the best sleep strain you may have to blend.

Hey e!

I went without sleep, literally, for 4 months. Doc. tried Trazodone and it worked a miracle. It is an old anti-depressant that never was effective for that. But it does work better than Ambien, imo. Sleep is its primary use now. Also very cheap even though it's prescription. Just an idea :)

I have trouble sleeping (even have a script for Remeron for it) but some standouts I take at nighttime to fall asleep (Yea, I can fall asleep on leaf, some people think it’s not a thing) HeavenLeaf Green Mountain, Old Plantation Red, Rhino Remedies Bali Gold, TFH Premium Red Bali 2, and Crafted Gold, Mitra Man new G Thai, and Nodfather Gold Remedy, to name a few of my favorites

My best non-kratom sleep aid is cyclobenzeprine (Flexeril). It's a muscle relaxer, is not addictive and from what I can tell after using it for MANY years, it always keep working.

Theanine, Melatonin, Magnesium L-Threonate, Skullcap, L-Tetrahydropalmatine (L-THP) (an active ingredient in Corydalis yanhusuo), the "Sandman" Kratom blend from Tea Time Botanicals, or Black Bali from Otie's Botanicals, or Red Bentaguie from Soflo.

Oh man, I hate Flexeril. Makes me sleep 12 hours and have the most groggy morning.

I've tried nearly all the common sleep medicines. Trazodone, Seroquel, remeron, ambien, lunesta, valerian etc. The worst was amitriptyline (elavil). Some strange side effects with that one. The thing I like about Ambien is there's no hangover
Traz and Seroquel have hangovers, Seroquel makes you gain weight and other side effects....and so on. I used to use melatonin + Benadryl pretty effectively but it stopped working. Kratom is definitely a help, but there's no "perfect" sleep aid imo

For me...hands down cannabis edibles. Further, it allows me to get 12 or more hours between my last kratom dose, so that my morning kratom dose will hit for my pain conditions.
I've used melatonin, ambien, flexeral, and a plethora of others with to many side effects.
But once i dialed in my cannabis dose, nothing beats it.

People have had success with most of the medications you have mentioned. Everyone responds differently. However, I would absolutely 'fire' any Dr. who tries to sell me Seroquel as a sleep aid. That is an antipsychotic drug and carries so many risks I wouldn't take it if it made me sleep like a baby. And I should know because a nurse slipped me one and I was a mess for hours. Even after having not slept for two weeks, I did not sleep after being given this. And no one wants to end up with a case of tardive dyskinesia.

I woke up in the middle of the night last night, as I usually do, and I took some Smiley OG Red Kali and it worked like a charm. I got great sleep after, maybe a little too much, but definitely feel better than yesterday. That's when kratom works best for me, in the middle of the night to help with getting back to sleep. It's when the reds seem to work the best, the equivalent of taking a good balanced white first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.

Traz worked well for me too. In higher doeses it can cause RLS too, but you still fall asleep. At least I did. I'd have RLS for 30 mins and then konk out

I used to be prescribed remeron as well. Keep an eye on your appetite, I've always been 130 lbs or less but after less than a year on remeron I gained 60 lbs. That stuff gave me the munchies like nothing ever has lol

Yeah antipsychotics like Seroquel and zyprexa and remeron are huge weight gainers. It's not hard to gain 100lbs in a year's time. It slows your metabolism and makes you eat and eat even after you're full

Excellent post. 12+ hours is like minimum time needed, to clear receptors, and keep kratom hittin' right the next day.. :P 16 hours is better. Taking kratom 'round the clock with no break ? Is the best way to wreck Tolerance, and stop kratom from working !! Don't do that.. Jmho. Don't take kratom at night.

Cannabis edibles are where it's at.. :) swear there is some synergy with kratom, since I've been mixing pure extract, (either THC, or CBD, or combo!) with my kratom dose the past year. Had to give-up smoking.. personal choice after 30 years of ciggs and pot. Smoking weed it's very very hard to know your THC intake ~ How MUCH did you just dose? No idea.. with edibles, you know exactly how much. Like you say, cannabis effects are very dose dependent especially the THC.

Sleep problems? Try some strong CBD gummies. Makes me very drowsy for > 24 hours. :ugeek:

Forgive my ignorance in CBD gummies, but can I pass a drug screen on those? I take them pretty often at work.

You should be able to, as long as you trust your source. I'm no expert on CBD, but I believe it's usually around 0.3% THC content tops.

You should be fine unless you are eating huge amounts. But to be safe look for ones labeled as "Isolate", rather than "Full" or "Broad" spectrum. Isolate will be CBD only, where as the others will have some or all of the other other cannabinoids, like THC, as well.

I had greens and reds put me to sleep. Just have to be higher dose then normal. 6 grams will knock you out. 2 grams will keep you awake. Some green no matter what if you reach 6 grams a dose, will ooz you into sleep mode, you will juist want to hit the pillow but if your at work then you will regret you took it and just work your self till finish. I never had 2 grams put me to sleep. has to be 4+ grams. More power to you if 2 grams works for sleep for you.

If you add 2g white, 2g green, 2 g red, mostly is best for work or awake with some relaxation to it. Or 4 green and 2 red, or 4 white and 2 red. If your a 6 gram doser, you should try it. Just make sure red is always less.

yesterday i tried soltanic red cali 4 grams and knocked me back to sleep lol./ and i just woke up, was kinda pissed. It's a sleep strain for sure. No more using for day time unless its 2 grams and less mixed with white or green.
