Strain Identifiers (particularly TFH)

Post by starshine »

trying to nail down what different strain identifiers mean if anyone can offer some experience and wisdom :)

what does 'reserve' mean?
'crafted' means made to TFH's special, unique, specifications, right?
'ssv' means sans (without) stem and vein
30 yr... self explanatory.
wild... self explanatory
super... biggest, strongest leaves, right? does elephant mean pretty much the same thing?
'rich' strains (emerald, ivory, sapphire...) also means without stem and vein, right? anything that sets these apart from ssv strains?

any other strain name, identifying, labels I'm missing?

I thought this could be helpful to our 'newer' connoisseurs... including me. well over a year in and I'm STILL learning :D

also... does anyone know if there is a part of the batch code that identifies different sources/farmers? I thought it was the letters and then I read somewhere that it's not... if there is, this would be very helpful in rotating. Chris? <3

Im not sure about the rich strains because the Emerald Elephant doesn’t signify SSV. Maybe that ties in to what you’ve theorized “elephant” means, though. I’d never actually thought about that one before.

The "rich" identifier is referring to steps taken during the production process that cost more.

Maybe we should be addressing these questions to the vendors who label their products this way? I doubt any consumer can answer these questions (I would like to know too). "Elephant" for example: the slick Kratom websites will tell you that this kratom is sourced from the oldest leaves in the deepest, oldest jungles. PROOF PLEASE?

I think it is possible that SOME vendors actually know exactly where their kratom is sourced (OK, maybe ONE vendor). Otherwise, it's all just a parade of market-wise copy-writers who know how to exploit an Adjective

Use the search bar. Gumby has an extremely informative post that breaks down this and more. Basically, a lot of it is made up. Yes, there are some patterns and obvious characteristics, but everything doesn't technically mean something.

Talking to the vendors themselves, as suggested above, is your best bet.

It seems to elude a lot of people. That's just usually where I start, so I look for it automatically.

very true. guess I was just curious if maybe I hadn't fully caught on to the strain labeling guidelines yet. sounds like I have as pretty good of a grasp on it as most people... not a whole lot. lol... agreed we know for sure of at least one vendor who is reliable in the strain-naming game <3

From what I recall, besides SSV (sans s&v) and TFH (batches that are most popular to members) the codes are used as stock numbers.. no secret codes at TFH. ;)

This is correct. I’ve asked Gumby about the batch codes and they really don’t mean anything except for a way for them to inventory and organize their batches. They bare no significance to correlation between batches.
