T Break Challenge!!!

Post by Greyfeather »

Hey Ever'body!!

I'm taking a T Break: my first real tolerance-buster. I've kinda 'lost my mind' the past month and now I've gone from a 2grams per serving to about 8. And that's too much for me. I don't need that much. All of the less desirable effects are here too: Nausea, I'm barely pooping, etc.

Care to join me This Weekend? It doesn't matter where you are in your daily servings, but if you would like to take LESS and you feel like you could use some support, then let's do this. There has been so much written about how wonderful kratom can be after a Tolerance break. I haven't done it yet so I don't have stories. I would like the break to be longer, but My Guy has cataract surgery Monday afternoon and I don't want to be "Oh my back, Oh my neck!!!!" when I'm trying to be supporting someone I care deeply about.

So my challenge will start at 5:00 p.m. tomorrow (Friday) and end on Monday morning at 6:00 a.m. You don't have to do anything wild like throw buckets of ice on yourself or open a bottle of champagne with a roundhouse kick  And sorry about the lateness of my announcement. There are probably some members who would like to get some other herbals to help the process. I'm just 'going in' with determination and lots of water (maybe some laxatives)

And if you want to join along and then find this isn't the time, THAT'S OKAY. You have the rest of your life to do this (but no time like the present, yeah?) Anyone who wants to join in, you are most welcome. I will be writing about whatever is happening, and I expect anyone else interested might want to do that too? Or chat or bitch or scream, ugly-cry, ugly or pretty-laugh. Just be there for each other?

So that's my plan. I'm open to all kinds of advice - now or later. But, again, I won't be using any other substances (again, probably a laxative and the dreaded Naproxen for pain; although I want to avoid that). Whatever you need to take or do, I'd love to here about it. Who knows, maybe two days for you will turn into a week!

And if the Mods think this topic should be on another Board that's fine with me! :D I guess I'm just looking for some 'early press."
Thank Youuuuu!!!

I honestly could really use a T break myself but I dont know if this weekend will be the best time for me since i will be having to work all weekend to make some extra funds. I think I will take next weekend off though for real. I havent taken a single break in the last 4 years. I will have some days that I only try to take half doses, but havent been able to completely refrain. A t break would serve me well though for sure.

I'll meet your challenge halfway, and do a serious taper. I don't know if I could deal with my neuropathy for that long, but I want to show my support!

You're Awesome, Jestrice!

I don't want anyone to put themselves at risk by just quitting suddenly, and this is just an excellent point you're making. I'm a real believer in ''Harm Reduction" over "cold Turkey" with most everything in my own life. We're all different and we all have different ways of coping with our pain, etc.. Sometimes the "What" determines the "How." Three years ago I quit benzos cold turkey and had a seizure. I had ALSO been drinking a lot, otherwise I don't think it would have happened. If anyone feels that two days might put them at risk of anything adverse, then ignore my challenge or, like yourself, just taper. ;)

So YES! Absolutely, if you're comfortable with that. I'd love the company! :D

The last couple days I have already been on a taper, so as I continue in the upcoming days I am right with you both! I try to do a gradual taper every now and then to keep tolerance and serving sizes in check.

Kudos to you for not only doing this all the sudden, but also encouraging others to not be afraid to do the same! And just as well, good for you Jestrice for showing support and trying to at least taper as well. Hope this weekend goes great for you both and everyone else here on DoubleM as well!!!

Greyfeather, that's awesome that you were able to get off of everything, but I'm so sorry you went through that ordeal! I didn't even think about the points you brought up; I don't know why, my mind just went to a complete break, lol.

I'm happy to stand in solidarity with you. I wouldn't be able to do it on my own. It's been, what 9 years? I've only taken a break once, so this is a great idea!

Totally understandable! I'm sorry you're going through all of that. Joining in spirit is more than enough. <3

On a side note, now that you mention it: if my husband disappears this weekend, I may need an alibi...

Hey Dot :D

I'm Central Time Zone? Illinois.
I'm not being fussy: whenever you're ready, I'm ready. I'll be here at 5 p.m. So, if you want to join me just say "Here I am" and we can go from there.
Something tells me that this isn't exactly going to be "fun". But some of the best things in history are created under some REAL duress. I'm inspired by that.

I'm especially motivate by Ace's blessing. That means a lot. Thank you Ace :) .

Again, there are no 'rules' aside from giving yourself some 'time'. I belonged to a 'sobriety forum' years ago. I didn't like it because it kept pushing a program that I find self-defeating. But there was ONE feature that I really liked: A thread where we all promised to stay clean for 24 hours. Just 24. I don't know why it worked for so many of us, but it was so comforting. I don't know if we can do that in two days? I don't know how often many of you 'dose' or why.

But, yeah, if I'm not in any danger from withdrawals (and feel free to speak up of that's an issue for you!), maybe we can pledge a few hours at a time? The DEA isn't going to blow your door down if you don't comply (I hope!!!!) cause I ain't telling  .

See you soon. And, again, this is just a personal challenge. It's not the Olympics. If you want to join in but life gets in the way (like it DOES), Pfft! Don't sweat it. There are already too many people out there expecting the impossible from us.

So F*** them

Thank You for replying, HH. The number of folks who post here doesn't even come close to the number of people who read the posts on this site. I absolutely believe that people hold you in their hearts because your soul - Yes SOUL - through your words, helps us feel like we are Okay. We really need to feel OK right now, so THANK YOU

I will certainly feel you in spirit this weekend, just as I have felt you in spirit since I joined MM. My T-break Challenge is about me trying to find some wellness in these extraordinary times and, hopefully, sharing the experience with others. Thank you for your blessing. Challenges aren't all about "winning." They should be about learning. I guess what I'm trying to say is that sharing your own personal COVID story is painful for you, but stories are all we really have. They outlive us. So please take care of yourself. If you want to share your own journey on this thread, go head. This weekend is - in many ways about grieving/loss: What we are giving up and why we are doing it to sustain ourselves and the ones we love (hope to love?).

I'm not a 'proper christian' HH, but you are in my "non-traditional christian " prayers every night.

You Rock Madvillain :o . If you feel like it, please tell us how you are doing here? Whatever you want to share can only be helpful (or even a guide) to anyone else who wants to re-set.

Truly, I'm in awe  Owing to the pandemic, 'Time' is getting sorta weird for a lot of us. Giving up anything for more than a few days feels scary to me. I would be grateful if you'd share your journey. Completely up to you. Respect!!

Hey Greyfeather great idea ! Something everyone can do together or just read and follow everyone else’s progress is a great way to feel closer and more connected with each other. And your so right. In the end all we really have is each other.
I’ll taper with y’all but right now I’m on steroids and a few gram serving is all that’s allowing me to get 2 or 3 hours sleep. Steroids tend to really wire me. But I’ll be there in spirit !

cant do a full-stop break this weekend but i'll get as close as I can without overwhelming negative effect!
you said this is your first true break ever? im curious how your body will handle the cessation....i'm sure you know sort of what possibilities lay ahead.

because i've done the withdrawal game countless times from countless things much stronger than plain leaf, my brain tends to over-react and ramps up the bad stuff. (nausea+emesis, no appetite, no sleeping, RLS, hot/cold sweats...my body definitely is a drama queen) and I just have too much to do to be down for the count.
...but i will be watching how your break goes! will try to only use a morning and evening serving as opposed to four times throughout the day!

Thank you, Timmy! I can see your spirit from here :D

And, oh yeah, Spooky, I'm wondering a lot about withdrawal NOW  I stared earlier than I'd planned - about 2:00 this morning. I figured since I would already be withdrawing when I woke up I might as well keep going. But anyone interested can join me whenever they like ;)

I didn't sleep very well, but that's because I had some wine last night and I'm feeling it; it kept me from sleeping too. There won't be any of THAT this weekend either. So, I'm tired but optimistic - even a little excited because I really want more control over my kratom servings and I'd like to get the relief I used to with a smaller serving. As we all know here, kratom can't get you high, but if you take too much you get the 'yucky' (kind of garbage-in-my-body) feeling. At least I do. So it's gonna be water water water and get my rear end out of this computer chair once in a while to get these joints moving

Cheers everyone!

Greyfeather I know that you have chronic pain and use Kratom for that purpose, as I do. Can you share your plan for dealing with it during the break ? And do you plan on changing your dosing pattern after the break ? I ask because I’m having trouble with this currently. I’m very careful to keep my GPD to 10. I dose twice a day usually about 6-7 hours apart. So that leaves me with a large window of no pain control. I’m thinking of dosing a third time regularly. I guess I’m wondering about other chronic pain people’s dosing frequency

Most of my schooling has been in the field of psychology, and an acquaintance of mine is a PhD. specializing in pain psychology, which I had never heard of, but she works with her patients who have chronic, debilitating pain and teaches her clients how to reduce and adapt to it.

Wow. I feel like I'm being interviewed. How cool is that! 8-) :D

Yes, I was diagnosed with Lupus and Dermatomyositis a few years ago but the pain didn't get bad until a year ago. I was lucky to learn about kratom around that time. I have joint pain in shoulders, hips, knee, lumbar and my right wrist (it was broken last summer and will be painful all the time from here on in). A few months ago I fainted and bruised my ribs. Now they usually hurt too. It's true, isn't it, that people don't really understand what pain is all about until it happens to them. I sure didn't get it. At all.

I'm feeling it all right now, which sucks, but at least I know now that the kratom has been working well for me. For a year I kept it at about 10 gpd also. Two to four grams in the morning then the same in the evening. Or 2 in the morning, 2 in the late afternoon and 2 at night. I'm mostly using TFH kratom because I can get a good eight hours from a serving. But for a few weeks I just started eating more and more powder. It was working OK, but it just didn't make any sense to just keep eating it like that  All of the protests, the COVID, all of it is pushing me into this addictive behavior. The world is going crazy. I don't feel right just "shutting it out," but going out and protesting isn't for me :(

So, when stuff starts to get you down, I think one of the best things to do is to get moving. I REALLY need to. If your pain, like mine, is rooted in inflammation, it's important to move as much as possible. I think my Hip Hop days may be over, lol, but I live in a house that certainly could use a more REGULAR cleaning  I also deal with a lot of anxiety and depression - but then who doesn't these days? I don't feel like going out. I think that kratom is a god -send for that and I'm sure many folks here agree. It can be difficult to start moving or get back into projects when everything feels pointless "If nothing we do matters then all that matters is what we do?" Not sure if I believe this, but..... maybe?

I have got my tiny little Dixie cup nearby; it has some Red Sumatra kratom in the bottom and every now and again I have a little whiff of it. I don't feel tempted. It's actually making me smile a little. It's going to be interesting to see how long this weekend will "feel"

I can always try to be available for distraction purposes, too. Whether it's cute, depressing, or just plain crazy, my life is way too exciting for an introvert.

No, I'm in the Midwest, but thank you for that offer. I'm good :D

But I am going to Google African Warrior Flower and if it looks promising, maybe you can help me find a place to order it?

I’m so sorry for the interview style questions. I’m only a year into this Kratom journey and I’m desperate to learn all I can especially in the area of pain management.
The psychology route is a wonderful holistic approach also. Wish I could afford it. Non-narcotic pain management is relatively new for me so I appreciate everyone’s posts. Good luck everyone !

Oh Dear! I didn't mind. I just don't find myself very interesting. I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have :D I have only been using kratom for 14 months myself.
For some reason it FEELS like a looong day. I have looked at some websites that discuss "Kratom withdrawal" and, so far after 19 hours, I'm not feeling any of these descriptions. But then, it's my belief that most of the info. on the interwebz is content generated with a lOT of hyperbole. "Kratom is Everything!!!" "NO! Kratom is Poison!!" I"m just waiting for the "cramps and hallucinations, vomiting", all the other horrifying symptoms to start  Who knows? Maybe I'll fee like a heap of dog shit tomorrow, but for now I'm really hungry. THAT'S certainly something new :)

Just took my dog around our condo building. There's a large area with grass and hills to help keep her muscles strong (she has nerve damage, so weak back legs), and she gets all the smelling stimulation she needs, and some frisking with the neighbors' dogs. Hanging out with Mei always lifts my spirits, especially seeing her attack the curb and some stairs with her massive front legs and chest, bouncing off her back legs, which look quite meaty. Then I help hold her back legs and tummy to get up the long flight of steps to our door. She's a miracle dog that survived nerve damage to spine and back legs, tail, had her spleen out, had fatty lumps out, amputation of a toe. And every day she is cheery, frisky, and so, so cool. Since 2008 she's been my service dog, able to be with me anywhere, even when I worked at a jail. Now she's deaf and tired a lot, so she stays home most of the time, but she still takes her job as my guardian seriously, and I am her guardian. Super blessed.

Those ears, those eyes and that big adorable SNOOTLE :D I can just feel her snootling my shoes so she knows where I beeeeeen. Please give her a big kiss for me?

What a wonderful story; both of you are so very lucky to have each other, Blessed indeed. I'm going to bed early so I'm grateful that this is the last picture I'll see before lights out.

THANK YOU Folks for hanging out with me today! You made this so much easier. I'm going to make my Pledge to stay Kratom-free for the next 14 hours and then I'll make another Pledge so y'all can hold me to it.

If anyone else want to Pledge some time, this is the place! Love You :D

Dot, she is adorable! And you're pretty amazing for being there for her, too!

It's been so long since I've had a dog; for the last couple decades, I've been stuck on reptiles and squirrels. The raccoon is the closest thing I have to a dog (but she's more like a Tanzanian devil, usually).

I want to watch her attack the curb and stairs!

Yeah she's beautiful and the floppy ear is cute, lol.

Funny cause it was floppy when I got her (pup but full grown) and it gradually grew erect (see new pic).

Then this year she got a hematoma in the ear and the blood in there weighted her ear down and it's bent over again, lol.

Good morning everyone. Dot I woke up to that gorgeous Girl’s picture this morning. How lucky to have each other. Animals are a most precious gift. Was the backdrop picture of the beach ? It looks beautiful there !
Still on my taper. Normal morning dose is 5g so this morning it was only 3g TFH Classic Red Maengda. Figured with the lower doses I might need to use my heavy hitters to get a handle on the pain before it gets started good for the day. How is everyone else feeling this morning ?

I'm not on a scheduled tolerance break, but I am limiting myself to 1 serving a day now. I've got a pretty nasty neck injury going on, so the doc prescribed me gabapentin until I'm able to get surgery (disc replacement). So far, the gaba SUCKS, and I'd much rather just be taking kratom all day. We'll see how it goes. Regardless, this will allow me to experience the full effects of the next batch when it arrives haha. :D

Wow, that sounds rough all around! I'm not a fan of gabapentin, either. It's just sitting on my dresser. I hope you're able to get that taken care of quickly.

The baby decided he was going to start sleepcrawling last night, on top of the teeth coming in, so it was a long night. Other than that and some pain, though, things are okay over here!

Glad everyone is doing okay so far. At least not too uncomfortable I’m hoping. Wonder how Greyfeather is doing ?

IDK but I took Gabapentin at 830 this morning and think I'm going to skip it the rest of the day. I feel like a zombie and it's doing nothing for the nerve pain. Insurance denied the surgery so I had to get a prescription for gabapentin, physical therapy, and injections (which my doc doesn't do). It's been a little over a month since the denial, so we're appealing their decision now. I need a disc replacement (I'm only 37 ugh).

I hope you get more sleep tonight Jessica, our newborn is finally sleeping at night, and goes from 230 AM until about 830 for a feeding so that's been awesome. We thought we were done with diapers, scheduled / on-demand feeding, and restless nights 3 years ago. haha! It's all worth the sacrifice tho.

You Caaaaalled?

Still in one piece, although all of the "pieces" don't seem to be working in harmony today, lol.
Went to bed sleepy (weird dreams), woke up even more sleepy :( . Normally I would plop myself down in front of the computer, measure out my serving of a lovely red strain, enjoy the aroma and toss it back.

**OK, after writing that last part a massive shiver just shook my entire body, I Yaaaawwned really big and now my nose is running. I guess this is it

But THIS morning the first thing I did was go down and eat something because I was ravenous. Some cottage cheese, toast, and tomato juice; then to the computer to look at the News (ugh). My stomach said "Bitch, I'm still hungry". Then I listened to a little music - which always makes me fragile because.......MUSIC. So then I want to throw up. I did some amateur performing when I was younger and I could never do that with food in me because my mind and body were so full of emotion that there simply wasn't room for any other substance. Anyway, that was a weird tangent..... :?

Now doing the "I'm hot! No. I'm cold!" thing, and sneezed a few times. Yeah, I feel like crap. Interesting: that's what a bunch of those websites about "withdrawal" I read last night said would happen. I stand corrected. My back hurts.

I'm asking myself "When I have my Kratom on Monday will I act like a complete animal and just shove as much as I can into my mouth?" I guess it's time to start thinking about self-discipline (and how I lost it). Generally, I think most of us are too rough on ourselves - especially in the Age of Instagram and FOMO. But I can't stand the whole "Self-Care" movement either. Just other words for "really Indulge Yourself." There's gotta be some balance.

I'm sorry you had a rough night, Jestrice :( . I didn't have children so when people talk about child-rearing I just stand back in amazement because I KNOW there's nothing more challenging than that.
Hey LuckyHerbals! Glad you could drop by :D I was given Gabapentin once and it didn't help my nerve pain (but it made me sleepy!) How does a disc replacement work?
Good Afternoon, Mycat :D . Taper's OK so far? I hope your pain doesn't get worse, but if it does, that's why the kratom and the 'measuring spoon' are there. 8-).

How are you feeling IncrediblyDotInk? Any discomfort? There was an adorable puppy in my dreams last night (no kidding!). It was the best part 'cause everyone else was grumpy

Everyone hang in there!!

If i woulda caught this 2 days ago i prob woulda had the motivation to join you. Been looking for a reason to take a break from tolerance seaming more affected than ever for the last couple weeks. I hear you about them 8 gram doses too. While i know they can be effective for some and ive gone that high on occasion, i know thats around the point where tolerance for most peoples gets truly wrecked
Im up to 6 gram doses myself right now (crept up there for the last 2 months) now i can feel my burns paying for it. Euphoria gone, normal sleep aid i receive from my evening dose isn't half as effective. But just like most people i got all the lame excuses to put off the solid tolerance break. But in the inspiration of your super committed break, ima drop a full gram per dose for the next 7 days to get back to my most effective burns i usually enjoy. 4.5-5g doses of quality leaf is hands down the most amazing burns ive ever experienced. Right between 6-7 gram doses is when ive personally found myself trying to recapture the magic. Still get occasional bomb burns on higher doses but not even close to those 4.5 gram miracle burns
So heres to you motivating me to drop a full gram for 7 days no excuses :D
Hope you're feeling alright Greyfeather. I know the bumpy road of full cold turkey weekend. Def not fun. And thanks for the Lizas recs ;) Much appreciated
