Immature leaf or young trees?

Post by HoagsObject »

I wish I could cite my source but I can’t remember where I read the following.

Somebody (maybe on Reddit) said that demand for Kratom is so high that some vendors are filling orders with immature leaf or leaf from juvenile plantation trees. Is this true?

Im far from an expert on Kratom but is my understanding that the most potent leaf comes from mature trees and the oldest leaves are better still. Isn’t that so?

Honestly, it's true...
High demand of kratom and makes farmers takes the young leafs and also took some leafs from young trees even there's ppl that took under 1 year trees.. Wild source has decreased lately, and plantations has greatly increased.

But eventually those under 1 year old Kratom trees will develop leaves with high alkaloid content, right?

Huge bulk vendors primarily import young plantation leaf. It cost much more to go out and pick leaves from wild trees verse harvesting 1-2 year old plantation.

Yes in theory. But kratom has never before, grown as a "farm crop". May take a few more years, to yield a high quality product from plantations?

Until then, it seems in 2021 we have situation of strong Demand, from USA consumer... and "Industry" run by profiteers. Large Air Cargo imports with a lower standard of quality... Much of USA Wholesale, is going to drug labs for manufacture of Retail extract product.

Many American would gladly pay more $ per Kilo, direct to farmer, for insure highest quality.

Bagaimana kita bisa mendukung, kualitas terbaik, produk konsumen "batch kecil" yang dipanen secara liar?

Thanks Ballz, its been a long time not to talk in a great forum like this.
Wild source has decreased lately, many ppl still lookin for wild source bcause their believe its content more alkaloids than younger trees.
Actually Borneo Island has 1.62 millions acre of forest, and kapuas river as kratom habitat is 1100 kilometers long. There's still big possibilities new wild sources will found. Also we already forbid our farmers to cuttin down whole trees, so its can generate new leaves in a short time, maybe around 2-3 months.

Kratom markets has changed greatly, its back to consumers that can put their choice to choose cheap products that comin from massive containers and uncontrolled products or buy premium products with higher prices and satisfied with it.

Let’s hope that the plantation trees mature into alkaloid factories otherwise they are going to “kill the goose that laid the golden egg” by stripping the wild trees bare to satisfy demand from people like me.

I had good luck buying from farmers about 4 years ago. But the game changed and the farmers online are now gone. Would love to find them again.

It might have been my post awhile ago on reddit. Ive been saying that it will take some time but kratom will continue to get better as plantations age. There is just so much plantation grown kratom that no one is wild harvesting anymore. I think plantation grown kratom will eventually be the best kratom out there. Long long term it will be 100% the best because they can clone the best trees and grow the highest % yielding ones. With that said there are MANY farmers with plantations that are 3-4+ years old which is of good age to produce quality product. I think the only difference in a 15+ yr tree and a 4 Yr tree growing in the same area would be total yield of leaves.

I think maybe 5% or less of kratom is wild harvested now. It just doesn't make sense for them over there to wild harvest when there is a plantation nearby with trees that have been topped and bushed out making easy harvest. Any vendor saying all their kratom is all wild harvested/small batch is just "marketing" you. There is no way.

This is incredibly encouraging to hear, because I have found myself wondering when we will get to the point of a shortage or "oh no, there are no more mature trees!" type of situation. Good to know I was worrying for nothing!
