Kratom Freshness versus Big Variety (i.e. how many bags open are 'too many')

Hi all-

My apologies if this has been asked and answered already but I couldn't find anything after a couple hours of looking (but found a lot of other great information so well worth it). I will try to keep this short if I can.

After finding Ballz' 2020 Vendor List I may have gone a little overboard with ordering from new vendors (and I assume I am not the only one this has happened too..). My question is what do most people do to manage their rotation in regards to not having too many bags open at once as I assume the shelf-life clock starts to tick once you open a bag. I read a little about people using vacuum sealers so thought that could be an option and just pull out what I need for two weeks and vacuum seal back up. Or do most people just open a few bags and run them dry and then on to the next few bags. Interested in hearing what has worked well for people in maintaining a good, fresh variety as long as possible. And and any other good rules of thumb like 'toss after 6 months of opening - unless vacuum sealed'.

There are folks who have leaf that's years and years old and still every bit as potent as the day they got it! There are also lots of folks who don't keep kratom in its original bag but rather transfer it to mason jars or tupperware containers or what have you. As long as it's stored in a dark, dry place, and isn't literally left open (bag is resealed, jar cap is tight, etc) it should last you a long while. I haven't read anything about the quality of kratom degrading over time as long as it's stored properly.

I keep mine in the original bag they come in with no problems. Try to squeeze out the air. I used to put in desiccants, but decided it was overkill and got in the way of scooping the powder. I have several ziploc/iris airtight bins with a bag of activated charcoal in each. Kept away from heat and moisture the kratom will last for years, ask the oldtimers here.

I keep mine in the original bags sealed, with binder clips on if they don't seem like they're sealing well anymore, and in snap seal bins.

It's pretty dry here so I don't have to worry about mold.

As far as anyone knows, kratom doesn't have a shelf life like food products do. Now that kratom has really blown up and become ubiquitous, we'll see if that changes, since more and more people will have older and older leaf. Right now there's a good deal of 4-5 year old leaf still around, but not much from before, since most current users weren't using back then.

And what about prescription medications? There are expiration dates on those, but pretty much anyone that has taken meds will tell you that "expired" pills work just as well as new ones. They don't go "bad", but maybe they lose some potency, or it could be placebo...Obviously pills/kratom must start to degrade at some point, but how long does that really take?

I have probably 30 different strains, all have been opened and either resealed in its original bag or in some sort of tupperware. Haven't noticed anything yet, but maybe we'll look back at this thread in 10 years and realize how naive we were.
