Storage

Hello all! Totally new here and I absolutely love it!!

I was wondering how do you all store your teas? As of right now I put my bags inside of ziplock bags. Is that sufficient, or so I need to do more?

Seen a bunch of people on Reddit use mason jars that hold about 56g. Then they would vac seal the rest of the bag they had opened for long term storage. Think I’m going to copy them and do something similar keeping 20ish strains in rotation. That way I can rotate more strains and not worry about it getting exposed to air. Probably overboard but, like most hobbies I do I end up going a little overboard

If for long term storage, get any bin with a lid, maybe dark bin to protect labels going blank from closet light, trow it in and forget it, no dust and it ages like wine for your apocalyptic days. Mason jars for sure wrk great intil you refil or just use original bags only make sure zupper on top works, you dont want bugs or moths crawling in, then you see it floating when making it. If no zipper on top originnal bag then a plain any clippers will work, fold it one or twice and put a clamp on. no need to spend money, unless you got some mason jajs laying around, you can use it. In fact many anecdotes say if you leave jars on window side where sun can see, it might become stronger kratom ... There is no going wrong, use what you got.

Thank you! I've only been drinking tea for about 4 months now and pretty much only have samples at this point. So I'll probably keep them in the bags until I get around to them.

Pretty much. I leave it in the ziplock bag it came in, unless that craps out, then I double fold and clip it shut and try to use it up sooner rather than later. For old stock, stuff I tried (opened) and wasn't thrilled with, I put in the chest of drawers, cool, dry, dark. Seems to work fine, I still have some 2018/2019 kratom that works like the day I got it. If you want it to stay fresher, just for the taste factor, then better sealing/storage is probably recommended. I rarely notice since I drown mine in orange juice, and some of it just isn't that 'fresh' to start with anyways ha-ha. But yeah, avoid sunlight, don't leave whatever container it's in open, and if yer gonna leave it for 6+ months, maybe double-bag it and find a nice moderate temperature dark place - again, I just put it in the drawer below where my socks live and it seems to work fine. :D

I spend about $300-$600 a month on kratom and buy it in 1oz bags so I always am going through fresh kratom and don't need to store bulk amounts.

In the past, I ordered 12 kilos from my same source I've used the past 6+ years of daily kratom use, and I stored them in plastic bags, inside of a dark plastic bin and put it in my basement.

The strains stayed fresh for over 1 year without loss in potency

At 1.5 years the last kilo I had in there had lost its potency

Sparknote version:

Store in a cool, dark place in plastic bags

I’ve been loving the plymore bags I got from Walmart. I’ve been using 3*4 plymore bags that can hold an ounce that herbalhippe recommend I think. They definitely are convenient, and work pretty well in my opinion. Read about many people on the forum just throwing it in a bin with the bag it came with in, and they claim it’s still just as potent from as far back a 2017. I think as long as you limit moisture, light, and air you should be good for long term storage

Thank you all for your replies. Storage has always been an issue for me, and now that I'll be getting back into it with some recs from the forum, I'll need a good storage solution.

This might sound weird but I actually exhale into my containers before I close them. What this does is it basically drives out any oxygen and it appears to keep it fresher longer. If I don't do this eventually it becomes stale tasting and the potency appears to suffer a little bit.

^^

I fill up the 3x4 plymor bags and have all the ones I'm using lined up in two rows in a basket in the kitchen. Seal the big bags and clamp them shut with hippie clips and put them in snapseal bins in a dim room. I've got a few moisture removing packets in the bins but I don't really need them where I live it's pretty arid here. I've probably got 60 of the little bags in rotation I just use whichever one is at the front that catches my eye on any given day and put it in the back and then use the next one.

We put the kratom we’re using in a glass jar with a lid on it, in the cupboard. Our excess we keep in the bags it came with out in the garage fridge. I just assumed keeping it in the fridge/ freezer would keep it fresh longer?

Hi. I have collected most of my kratom over the years in sealed glass jars and I have noticed they all have a distinct odor and taste. Somewhat like vinegar or ammonia and has seemed to lose potency. But, what's left in the sealed bags are fine. Just curious how long you have been collecting in glass jars? Is this a thing? Thanks for any input.

Cool, dark, and dry place is best. Fridge or freezer has too much moisture, even if tightly sealed it creates condensation and moisture builds up, it would ruin it. I keep mine in original bags and if the seal doesn't work good clip it with a binder clip, then I put those in zippered bags in storage boxes in an air-conditioned room.

AHHHHH, Omg I’m taking them out of the fridge now!!! I got all these cute glass jars and we labeled them and it looks real cute but fuck I’m messing up our precious leaf! Ok back in the bags you go naughty Kratom. Thanks for the pro-tip! I’ve been doing Kratom for a couple years and I feel like I know a little bit and then I come on here and feel like an idiot! I’ve been deep in this forum for a week now trying to soak up all the info, I need a handbook “kratom for idiots”.

Wait, I thought a fridge/freezer works as kinda like a de-humidifier sucking moisture out?
