Whats the oldest bag of kratom that you own? And is it still as potent as the day you bought it? I've been buying vintage leaf from people and it's some of the strongest leaf that i've had. I was just curious as I have a large stash and want to know if it's a smart idea or waste of money buying a large amount of a specific strain. Thanks in advance.

No, not if it works for you. Its not that today's kratom is better or worse, just DIFFERENT. My oldest is from 2013 and I don't know how strong it was then but I know how strong it is now. Plenty.

Well I remember asking about storage a good while ago, and some veteran members were telling me they had stuff from like ten year ago that was just as potent, I think as long as it’s stored properly it will last years with no degradation. Though who knows: maybe it gets better with age, or certain properties change that make it better for some? Plymore bags, and somewhere like a drawer, or cool dark cool place to store it should be plenty good enough. People on here have huge collections so I wouldn’t worry plus you can always sell extra leaf on the trading post which I’m finding to be more useful than I initially thought. I don’t have anything older than last year personally.

Thanks for your opinion. And this is true, not much info online about the true shelf life. I’m just gonna take a gamble and keep stocking up. Another reason I have so much is because they e been trying to ban this leaf for a while now. Never know when it could actually be banned which is such a shame as it’s helped so many including myself.

What scares me is when the government gets their hands on it to control it. Everything they touch turns to garbage. I cant believe they havent tried to grab a hold of this stuff for the tax money alone. I hope it stays how it is right now.

I have a little bit of some 2017 or 2018 leaf left. It's stale, but most of it seems as good as when I got it. That said, I've gotten better stuff since, so I'm not nostalgic for it in the least. There's probably some amazing old stuff, and there's probably some equally amazing stuff being sold/harvested today.

I have some 2014 HBM Emerald Borneo that seems to have lost a bit of its kick despite being vaccuum sealed the whole time and stored in dry darkness. Then again a lot of my 2016 stash is just as potent as it was then. It’s definitely a bit different though.

Oldest leaf i own is some socal Green Zareena 2016 but other than that i have some 2017 red kali that a buddy imported and its got a nice coarse grind. It is one of those strains that helps you sleep and is great for anxiety so good. Its hard to find leaf i can actually take before bed that does not keep me up.

Second place is probably an unopened bag of Thai Maeng Da from... I think Herbal Solutions? I don't remember the exact name atm, but it was early 2017 and I'm not sure if they're around anymore.

I have some Kraken kratom from 2016, some Gaia from 2017 - actually a wide selection from Gaia. The Gaia is very different from other kratom I have - much more stimulating. I have a ton of kratom from 2018, mostly because that wasn't a great year for quality & it's not very good. I suppose I should learn how to make extract. But I haven't seen any drop in effects due to age. What I have seen is older strains, some of them, change color. I've had some turn bright yellow, others turn from green to brown. Most, though, stay the same lawn green color as when I first got them. They're all stored in my basement in the dark. They're in sealed bags & there's no moisture, so it must be oxidation or interaction of some of the components.

Yes! That’s it. They had good stuff for a while but it went down hill eventually.

2016/2017 Gaia was some really good stuff. And you’re right, often quite a bit more stimulating than others at the time. I actually just finished up a bag of their “purple” blend a little while ago and it was still fire. Unfortunately, they also went downhill shortly after that.

Vintage kratom used to be more coarse. I actually think the fine milling produces more heat and possibly degrades the alkaloids. We are actually working with one supplier to get some coarser strains to test and see.

Yep. I actually read this, and agreed "Yes absolutely True" before I noticed who wrote the comment ... lol

All grinding produces high heat. Micro or Nano grinding, even more so.. . Yes it's good to "expose more surface area". But otoh, the Less processing, the Better. Just common sense... it's thought that Crushed Leaf kratom is a bit stronger per weight since there is zero grinding.

I treasure my Coarse Grind vintage leaf, like the 2017 Elephant from LI Herbals or Kraydo... if anyone got a Coarse GMD batch from TFH, some of their strongest ever, imo.

I might have to get some vintage leaf just to see the difference. The coarse leaf thing is interesting in my opinion. If nothing else I bet it makes better tea than Finely ground powder,

Grainy/course, yeah, almost seems like there's dirt or sand in it. Probably best for making tea with, if I ever break it out again I sure don't intend to take it straight ha-ha.
