What's your favorite kind of apple?
I'd have to go with Gala or Big Red Delicious. Honeycrisp are overrated, and like a dollar more per lbs.

Re: What's your favorite kind of apple?
I live near Apple Country, have picked apples around Wenatchee WA & Lake Chelan during the season. Many years ago lol.
Farmers had cabins, for pickers to use, and paid $8 per Bin for Red Delicious - IF you were good enough to pick Goldens, those paid like $12.
Long ago, Fuji's replaced Red Delicious as the more popular eating apple... They keep longer, have thinner skins, and are just as sweet. Many orchards have coverted their Delicious trees over to Fuji trees over a period of 20+ years. Now - Honeycrisp varieties are the #1 "premium" eating apple, but Yes - way way expensive.

Envy apples.
They’re a bit tougher to cut with our sectioned apple cutter because of the thicker skin, but I do love the “snap” of said skin when you bite into a slice.

I live smack in the middle of apple country and Honeycrisp are expensive even here. They're my current favorite though.
Used to be Jonagolds. Not too sweet, a little spicy almost. After a few years they just didn't taste the same for some reason.

Another vote for the Honeycrisp here. I love the sweet/tart taste but just as much, I love the firmness of the flesh. And that tearing sound when your pulling the bite away from the apple. To me they are everything good about an apple. I cannot stand a soft one, I’d just as soon be eating applesauce.
My next favorite is Granny Smith. They also have the same attributes as the Honeycrisp, just to a lesser extent.

I've never had a honeycrisp.
I buy organic if it's on sale or not priced outrageous, usually Fuji or Gala but just got a bag of Pink Lady. As long as it's crunchy as someone said, not soft.

I don't know if the new Cosmic Crisp apples are widely available yet but I had one last year, the first year on the market, and was not impressed at all. Obviously bred for storage, not flavor.

And then I remember - we are literally talking about apples.

Yeah I've had Cosmic crisp, definitely a weak apple. Its like they decided to trade flavor for a shitty a new mouthfeel.herbalhippie wrote: ↑Tue May 17, 2022 10:58 pm I don't know if the new Cosmic Crisp apples are widely available yet but I had one last year, the first year on the market, and was not impressed at all. Try the envy (from US mainland if you can, the international ones are quite smaller) they're not hype. in fact, I had never even heard of them before trying them.
sweet
very traditional apple taste
crunchy
does not brown
not too sticky
goes on sale often, price not extreme

I was going to say an apple made out of narcotics.Loveandpeace wrote: ↑Thu Jun 09, 2022 4:39 pm EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I see this thread title, I get excited that we are talking about something in secret.

I'd be lying though. I would say plain ol' yard apples. I ate a bunch one time and it made me.really sick. They were kind of sour, but I like sour sometimes. Like then. I came in and asked my mom, "did you know there is an apple tree nest door?" She asked me how many i ate and I told her I didn't know, but a bit later I found out it was even more than I thought. Always struck me as kind of cool that there is, indeed, a "poison apple" in the world, but it's not like they say. I do think Prince Charming would have been way less charming if he was heaving partially digested apple chunks all over the place, so creative license is used well in this instance.
