What color is your go-to?

Post by Renob »

Just curious to see what everyone’s preferences are? I’ve always considered myself a “green” person as more strains labeled as green seem to hit for me. I used to only use green and red but I’ve expanded my collection and I’ve been trying and using whites, reds, greens, yellows and golds! The only things I don’t touch often are the ones labeled as “bentuangie” although I’ve noticed that some yellows and reds that I’ve gotten are essentially the same thing!

I like greens because they seem to be the most balanced for me with nice “warmth”, headiness, stimulation, pain relief, mood boost, nootropic, etc. I’ve found a lot of reds that do the same, too. The few golds I’ve tried have been great and similar to greens as well. Whites and yellows fall in the same category for me. Some hit great but both of these tend to be less “spot on” for me and I have actually started to feel some “slow” effects from both whites and yellows (from 4-5 different vendors)…

When you find kratom that hits, the labels don’t really mean that much! Even though I realize that this I still tend to go for the greens the most. I try to switch off frequently, rarely even using the same strain in a day. My first dose of the day is almost always a green, though. That’s what’s seemed to give me the best results?

I don’t know how much is actual strain differences and how much is psychosomatic/placebo 🤔. Having the marketing and labeling definitely makes some sort of a psychological difference, though!

My rankings:
1. Green
2. Green
3. Red
4. Gold
5. Yellow or white

Do you guys have a definite preference? Do you like them all situationally? I’m

1. Greens
2. "Green" Reds (daytime reds, basically. Think wild crafted rocket red from TFH or socal's red hulu from back in the day)
3. Whites
4. Yellow
5. "heavy" reds (night reds)
6. Gold

I used to love golds but they haven't been hitting for me in the last 2 years. Even golds from the big dog elite vendors are stuck in that 7/10 range. Not bad but doesn't really standout and i'd rather just mix a red with a bit of green. Or dose a heavier yellow like Yellow Vietnam.

I take kratom recreationally and for anxiety/depression. Greens are versatile in that regard, you can do a upper/mid green for social stuff or a slow green for a movie night. You can also use a daytime red or yellow after work if you want to chill but also have enough energy to cook a nice meal, get some reading done or work on a side hustle. Don't really use kratom for pain relief or sleep but it's nice to have a heavy red like red bali or red bent on hand just in case.

this denette green kelabit got me talkative lol :D

We've gotten the word that colors are truly very, very arbitrary (with the possible exception of the true "reds" - not the "greens" they label as such).

That said, I still tend to follow the old saw about whites for energy, reds for pain relief, and greens in-between. So I almost never use anything other than a white to start my tennis (or otherwise strenuous) day, with a red in the evening. And if I dose more than twice, perhaps a green or yellow mid-day.

Also AS A VERY GENERAL RULE I find greens to not work for me as well as whites and reds. In particular, folks who tout this or that green as "the best" when I take it I find it's nearly always so-so (whereas when others like a red or white I find I almost always like it as well). It would be good if I could get my wife to truly give me a blind test so I don't know what color I'm taking (I might indeed get her to participate in this some weekend when I'm not playing tennis - haul out two of each color and just tell her to hand me some capsules of some color that I'll take with my eyes closed. Might be an interesting experiment).

My hunch is I would find that ALL my prejudices about the "colors" are false.

While there is an undeniable psychosomatic element to the given "strain" name, I tend to choose based on my personal experience with each individual "strain". In fact, I divide my stash into Fast, Moderate, and Slow rather than by color (after determining how each affects me personally). That way I can pick based on how I feel at the time with reasonable success (and I don't accidentally put myself to sleep in the morning with a slow green or stay up all night with a fast red...lol).

Yes, this is me too. I divide up by guaranteed fire burns (all vendors), brand new leaf gets burned only in the morning, I mix 3 strains and stagger my third dose by a half hour three times per day.

Colors are meaningless. Like Kelly said, a true red and true yellow are different-ish but all is pretty much just green leaf dust.

Early in my Kratom journey I only took greens and had some bad burns with reds…Then I realized I was getting poor quality reds and I also discovered some amazing whites.

Here is my current ranking:
1.) Mid-Slower Greens and Mid-Reds with warmth
2.) Whites and fast greens (for morning energy)
3.) Slow unfermented reds (they have their place for evening dosing).
4.) Everything else, haven’t had a great gold before. Never know what to do with yellows. Fermented Reds are ok but need to be dosed so high that is usually unpleasant…

Was on the green bandwagon initially and still have more green stash than other colors. Avoided whites but no longer. Reds were my next fav to green. I find myself rating based more on personal experience than color. Sounds like others do as well, at the end of the day its about how it works on me. All speeds have a place in my life, but i have alot of reds n greens.

I barely use greens at all, and gave most of mine away. I just don't care for most of them all that much.

My favorite is a red (usually green colored) and a bent blended together. Favorite bents are TFH rustic bent, lucky Royal Bentley, and D16's bent. The bents seem to help me increase the dose to pain killing levels without having me throw up.

Reds+bent
Reds
Yellow
Gold
Green
White (I've just loathed the few of these I've taken, except for 1 from Heavenleaf called Imperial Ivory, but even that was a bit much for me).
