Verizon's bastard child of the union of AOL and Yahoo!

Post by WotAnAtti2d »

It is the end-all result of Verizon buying AOL and Yahoo! Mail.

For businesses (in our case, vendors): https://policies.oath.com/xw/en/oath/pr ... index.html

For single-user accounts: https://policies.oath.com/us/en/oath/pr ... index.html

I urge you to read the links, especially the top one if you are a vendor using Yahoo Mail for your business-related communications.

Verizon has changed Yahoo Mail to a homonculous called, "Oath". Oath, as in we (Verizon) vow to take every last bit of your personal data and sell it to the highest bidder. Their new TOS is basically, "whatever you store, send, or receive, is now our data and if you're using our service, there's not a damn thing you can do about it." Fuckers, now I have to take a 17+ year old account and move it to gmail or some other third-party email.

Edit: Used the URL tags.

You're welcome. I just backed up 129 MB (19 years of data) to my hard drive tonight. It took about two hours. That may not seem like much, but the typical email is only text, so it's about 1K.

I'll post a link to a tutorial here, but it's not for the average user. Verizon made sure that the move couldn't be done in what's called native mode.

Wow, how shitty of them. I'm pretty sure Google does the exact same thing with Gmail though. Might want to look into Proton Mail if you want a company who respects you and your customer's privacy.

Check out Fastmail - I've used them for many years, you get tons of power features with Web mail, POP3, IMAP, alias domains, even web hosting, all for a measly couple bucks per month. Highly secure and very private / off-shore in Australia with servers in Amsterdam 8-)
