Like/dislike
Is there a way to add a like/dislike function on posts? Often I want to post with someone solely to agree with them but don't really have anything else to contribute, I just want to let that person and others to know that I agree. Just seems a little superfluous to make a new post. In addition, since it takes 10 posts of "meaningful interaction" to join the Trading Post, this could (maybe) cut down on people shitposting just to get in.
Maybe since the site update this would be possible? It could be like how Facebook used to be, with only a like button and no dislike, personally I would like them both.
Just an idea I've seen on other forums.
(I notice that this idea has already been posted, but it was years old... also I wanted to give a couple of my own reasons)

Re: Like/dislike
I've gone over this before, but it bears repeating. We will not be adding a dislike or downvote button. It create echo chambers where only 1 way of thinking is "right" and everything else gets downvoted. I want people to freely engage in discussions without worry of being childishly downvoted. End of discussion on that. Nothing will change my mind on that topic lol.
As far as the like button, it's something I've considered. But does it encourage people just posting for likes? Are people with more 'likes' considered more reliable sources?
Overall, I think I'm just against the whole like/dislike thing. I feel that better conversations develop with opinions being influenced by the quality of discussion rather than an arbitrary number of likes.

Re: Like/dislike
I disagree with you on the reasons not to have a dislike button, but you make a reasonable point for not having a like. It sucks that people post just for likes, and ruin it for the people that just want to acknowledge someone else's opinions. I mainly suggested it as a way to get rid of unnecessary posts that muddle up the forum, but it's not a big deal.

Re: Like/dislike -- Please never do this...
I agree this should never be implemented. This is not a huge venue like Reddit where posts must be mediated to even see them (and even at Reddit, like/dislike often does more harm than good).
The search function at Double M is excellent as are the categories. The forum is beautifully functional as is.
plus, are we really so busy and important that we lack the time to say I like what you said?
This is by far the most civil, congenial forum I belong to, a haven by today's standards.
And the fact that posts don't expire and get locked is another boon. You can add new experiences to old, without generating a ton of duplicated threads with redundant info.
Thanks to the mods here! Stellar work!

Re: Like/dislike
I was going to suggest the exact same thing. If they had already added this feature I could’ve just liked your comment instead of having to write out a comment. I hope they take this suggestion because it would be great!Playerpiano72 wrote: ↑Fri May 28, 2021 9:22 am Is there a way to add a like/dislike function on posts?
