Otie Black Bali Bent and Red Bent?
I just bought some black Bali and red bent from otie to try as the reviews seemed to suggest they were sedating and good for sleep. Has anyone else tried them? I'm curious about dosage. I comfortably ate 6ish gs of super red MD and red gold mixed together the other day. I'm wondering if 3.5 gs of the black Bali is going to floor me or if it'll be pretty similar.
Thanks!
Thanks!

The Black Bali is fermented, thus should be weaker than the SRMD which is an unfermented red at 1.91% mitragynine content.

Interesting. I was under the impression that fermented bents were supposed to be stronger?

Re: Otie Black Bali Bent and Red Bent?
I happen to have both varieties from Otie's, but the Red Bent is from a few years ago, and the Black Bali is from when they first offered it, which is a while ago.
Neither is blunt force strong, but for me they lived up to what I was hoping to get.
I have a feeling that several processors use a similar formula for Black Bali, or Fire Cured Bali, if that's what they call it. I generally only take Black Bali or Fire Cured Bali when I'm mentally and physically prepared to appreciate the somewhat subtle benefit I get from them.
If things go well I get a relaxation that feels akin to what you'd expect from being in a mildly hypnotic state.
Otie's strives for consistency and quality, so their current Black Bali could easily be at least as good as what I have.
Their Red Bent I got several years back is a different animal, and while it's great for relaxing in the evening or before bed time, I get a solid mood boost, a tranquil one at that, from it, with some good pain relief as well. One extra feature of it is that it has good legs, so good sometimes that if taken near bed time there's a chance I'll still feel a glow from it in the morning.
Both these strains are conducive to a restful night's sleep, and in my case, a better chance for some lucid dreaming.

As to serving size, I'd use the Red Bent the same as you did with any medium speed red or gold.
Same with the Black Bali, but the first time using it I'd try just half a serving. If you're using it because you really need to get a restful nights sleep, and have trouble getting settled in and then later dozing off, I'd at first try taking it intermittently, in small serving sizes. Say, 250 - 500 mg. every hour starting three or so hours before bedtime. If you're used to taking Reds at between one and two grams at a time, then maybe double what I said to 500 - 1000 mg, every hour, but I wouldn't go over two grams total no matter what, the first time taking it, even if used to taking fermented Reds in multiple gram serving size.
Lol, the Black Bali brings the funk, just like Parliament.

Lol, one guess to what I'm going to take in a few minutes. I'm gonna give up the funk!

Re: Otie Black Bali Bent and Red Bent?
Thanks for the super detailed reply!
I took about 4ish of the black with some food ~2 hours ago and it's pretty mellow. Definitely feel sleepier than most strains but, like you said, lacks that bit of mood boost I tend to enjoy (especially on a Saturday night).
Gonna load up some of the red bent for that boost!
And thanks for the funky vibes, didn't know I needed that tonight, but I suuuurrrreeee did!!

Re: Otie Black Bali Bent and Red Bent?
Post burn report: these bents are the best I've had for sleep since coming back to kratom. I've tried otie's red Bali, super red maeng da, and red gold, but none actually did much for my sleep. These 2 bents were so smooth for sleep and I even ended up having a dream within a dream and probably other interesting dream experiences I don't remember.
Babel's description was accurate for each strain. Black Bali immediately brought me sleepy feelings and when I added the red bent I got a little mood boost to accompany it. Would recommend!

Re: Otie Black Bali Bent and Red Bent?
Funny enough, I had a similar experience, but I had the dream within the dream after I got up, and then went back to sleep. Pretty funny as apparently my subconscious wanted me up, so it had me in my dream hearing my tablet setting off an alarm that was like futuristic synth. I got up before my dream had the tablet go all David Lynch and start moving towards me while talking, like something out of Naked Lunch.
I forgot to mention a predictable caveat. For me, and probably some other people, the Black Bali works best when used just once in a while, and then under conditions where you prepared yourself and your environment. Though if I was having a rough patch of insomnia I would be OK with my taking it every night.
With the Red Bentaguie I'm not as strict, and I sometimes use it in the middle of the day, even blending it at times with something fast.
