Bookmarking individual posts? (Oh, and a search question...)

Hi friends,

Is there a way to bookmark or save an individual post? There are a bunch of really good comments I'd love to be able to save so I can refer to them down the road.

And while I've got your ear, could the search function be tweaked so it doesn't ignore quite so many terms? Seems like everything I want to search is considered too common, particularly vendor names.

Hey there!

At the bottom of every thread, there is a 'bookmark thread' option and 'subscribe topic' option.

Bookmarking it saves it to a special tab in your user control panel so you can easily access all your stored links. Subscribing to the thread gives you an alert when a new post in appears in any thread you're subscribed to. Unfortunately, there's no way to save individual comments yet, but we do have some more features on the way.

I've noticed that too and I will look into it. The search function leaves much to be desired.

What E said! And here's a trick I use with Reddit and other sites to get the best search results when the local search utility is unsatisfactory:

When a site's own search feature is crappy, you can always go to a regular search engine like Google or DuckDuckGo and define the search terms so that it searches only the site you want. Let's say I want to find out what the people here are saying about SITSA but I don't want to deal with the site search anymore. I go to a regular search engine and enter

site:doublemherbals.com sitsa

making sure I strip out everything but doublemherbals.com from the site address (also known as the domain), and get the results I want. Let's say I want to find out what the Double M fam has to say about white maeng da. In this case I would put my multi-word search term in quotes (tends to work better) like so:

site:doublemherbals.com "white maeng da"

and it gives me what I want.

But remember: no space between site: and the domain, and yes a space between the domain and the search term.

This probably sounds a lot more complex than it is. In the end all you're doing is adding the site you want to search in front of the search language you'd use anyway, with a space in between. It's really that simple.

Just in case there's no search improvement available through phpBB (the forum hosting software) and in the meantime if there is, this should help.

I've adjusted some search parameters. The system appears to be taking words like "kratom" and certain vendor names and considering them as too common to search for. I've turned this off, but it may take a bit for the database to reindex and catch up. Let me know if there any more issues with the search function going forward.
