Which Alkaloids are stimulants?

Post by NobleSapien »

You often read that kratom is stimulating in low dosage and sedating in higher dosage. While this tends to be somewhat true there are some strains that seem stimulating even in higher dosages to the point where they can cause fast heart rate and slight tremors and excitement. Every one of the alkaloids I have read about seem to lean towards pain killing, sedation, or muscle relating effects. What is it in kratom that causes stimulation?

Paynantheine and Speciogynine are both listed as smooth muscle relaxers, and seem to be the second and third most prominent alkaloids? I bring this up because I have asthma and all the medications I've used to relax smooth muscle are also very stimulating, basically amphetamines. Perhaps this is what it is. Just a guess anyway

Hi everyone, I'm Molly, and I'm new here. New to kratom too, I've only been trying it out for the past couple of days, and WOW! I like it!!

I tried to read a lot about kratom, and I THINK I read that is works to calm down the hormone prostaglandin, (sp?) which is what gives women menstrual cramps. And it also stimulates the bowels. I've noticed that the kratom did indeed take care of cramps for me! Better than MIDOL!

Are the lungs considered a smooth muscle? Because for the past 2 weeks, I have been coughing a lot, due to post-nasal drip, allergies. But I noticed that after using about 2 tsp of kratom, the coughing has stopped! My lungs and chest are getting a break, finally.

I'm a man, so I can't comment on the menstrual cramps lol. But, I will say it definitely works great for any kind of bowel pain like IBS.

Interesting, I do find kratom helps my seasonal allergies a bit. And I've heard that from others as well, so you could be on to something here.

Hi Molly! Yep, prostaglandins are general inflammatory agents that aid in tissue recovery, not just for the ladies! It makes sense that if kratom is anti-inflammatory it would also act against prostaglandins. I actually chose to stay off kratom for six weeks for that reason: I had to stay off all anti-inflammatories so that a stress fracture would heal, and I had had too much experience with kratom to think it didn't count. And man, did I miss it.

But now I'm better and making up for lost kratom time with a vengeance, so it's all good.

IMO any low dose opioid can have a mildly stimulating effect. The slight euphoria and or motivation that accompany can be seen as stimulatory
In one of the few human clinical experiments, a 50 mg oral dose of mitragynine produced motor excitement, followed by giddiness, loss of motor coordination (positive Romberg’s test), and tremors of the extremities and face.

Also, here is a http://speciosa.org/assessment-of-krato ... fic-study/ list of alkaloids known to be found in kratom. Many of them are relatively unstudied with very vague effect profiles
