Strain Acclimation

Post by TheStanman »

Question - do you feel it takes a couple burns to acclimate to new leaf? And as such, can you have too much strains in rotation?

Like many of us, I recently went through a large purchasing spree and have a lot of product in rotation. I assumed the more variety the better and was constantly rotating. However, I wasn't enjoying my burns as much and didn't feel as good overall. I often didn't know what to expect taking some leaf, and it felt like my body didn't know either.

I've since selected ~8 strains that are part of my core rotation. I plan to swap in new strains occasionally to keep it fresh and sometimes take a non-core leaf. I've been feeling better and get to know each leaf better.

Just curious if others have had the same experience.

Yeah I feel this way too, over the past year I have been buying kratom on a weekly basis and just have so many different ones.

I also think that if you have a couple that are way stronger than the rest, all the other ones will just seem bunk or ineffective.

I found out about this last November with Texas Family Harvest’s old growth strains. Weren’t working at all. Then 3rd or 4th try I lowered my serving size, and boom! I think dialing in the right dosage is key to new strain acclimation.

its really hard for me to stick with something more than 2 or so times if it doesnt hit, i admire your resialiance sir! a lot of times unless i know its good after 2 times (maybe 1 sometimes) of nothing it goes into the ol tote till later!
if i find multiple doses arent working in a day i usually think its tolerance tho, and skip a dose or take a really long overnight break 16-18 hrs or so, to try to get on top of it

This can happen everytime if you are a low doser, or long breaks in between. I think its possible that if you are a high doser, old strain lingers in a system long and you barley feel the first new burn until you do the second hit then third one so the old burn can go away completely and you feel the new one.

Some thought, not a lot but some batches your body got to get used to it. its different from lingering old dose. not to mention some meds or foods blocking the effects.

I feel this!

I’ve been just doing my TFH strains along with some smiley time mixed in and yesterday I received my mitraman package. I tried the yellow Maeng da and then later in the evening, red horn. The yellow Maeng da, didn’t hit too much and the red horn barely did as well. I noticed that had happened though as soon as I started out taking TFH strains when I first received them. It took a minute to where I was getting effects from them. That could’ve been due to my tolerance at the time too. Had to lower it, and then TFH was glorious after adjusting! So maybe that’s the case with mitraman. Tolerance could be rising again.

Guess it’s time to readjust and lower doses! :)

Yes. THIS. I have been relying on an old fave for probably 6 weeks!!!!! This pandemic is REALLY messing with my sense of time. So today I cracked open a new bag of a red I haven't had before. I served myself 4 grams because that's how high I had to go for the past week. I did not feel anything for an hour and was beginning to think that ALL is FREAKIN' LOST. And, ok, I admit, I had a little more too.

So thanks for the reminder, RumRunner. I will have TWO grams in the morning, wait patiently and hope that my Guy doesn't have to "Old Yeller" me

This pandemic is killing us in so MANY other ways. Five, ten, 50 years from now people still will not be able to calculate the collateral "damage."

Fortunately, higher kratom dosage is a relatively healthy way to deal with the stress of the pandemic :) especially because it sounds like you're at very reasonable levels overall.

I have found the pandemic has made it harder to moderate my god because you're at home so much.

Yup! I'm watching that damn clock like the world is going to end, and I'm swamped with a baby and wildlife! It still drags on, lol.

Yeah! I work at a grocery store so my busy work weeks, like when I’ll be scheduled 5 days, which is my normal schedule, I can get by with less Kratom. But on my 4 or 3 day work weeks, I don’t know what to do with my downtime. I then proceed to take Kratom at odd hours instead of sticking with my schedule!!

I have no self control :(

I actually purchased a timed lock box to help with self control when needed. Measure out my doses for the day then lock it up. I make better decisions planning ahead than in the moment.

Haha yep. I don't think it's critical, but I prefer not even having to think about it.

I feel the same way about having junk food - try not to even have it in the house. Guess I just have bad self control :?
