Your current favorite shows/movies on Netflix?
What are your current favorite series or movies to watch on Netflix? I'm looking for some new things to watch!
Recently, I just finished Ozark season 2 and it was phenomenal. I liked it better than first season and this is really shaping up to be an excellent show. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.
I've also watched a lot of movies on Netflix lately, but these are my picks for the best:
Calibre - must watch thriller. I was blown away by how good this movie was and it really keeps you on the edge of your seat. Probably the best one I've watched in the last few months. Absolutely brilliant film and my #1 recommendation.
The Ritual - horror movie about some guys camping/hiking in the Scandinavian wilderness. Very creepy, tense atmosphere with a great payoff near the end. One of the best horror films I've seen in a while.

Re: Your current favorite shows/movies on Netflix?
Off the top of my head, a couple of international picks were exceptionally good: Occupied and The Same Sky, if you're into politics, history, and thrillers. The first season of Narcos was -excellent-, as well. Seasons two and three were also good, but the first season was absolutely great.
Quincy is also incredibly good; it's a documentary about the life of Quincy Jones. It honestly ranks as two of the best spent hours I ever enjoyed watching Netflix. Ditto Amy, the documentary about Amy Winehouse, and the documentary History of the Eagles. I happened to watch that one the day before Glenn Frey passed away, which was sort of surreal, but it's a good flick if you're into that kind of thing.
Somewhere along the line I watched both seasons of The Good Place. I couldn't tear myself away from it, though I wanted to many times. It's very... strange, heh.
But honestly right now we're just jamming on the Great British Baking Show and GBBS Masterclass, because we like to eat and we're usually too brain dead to get into anything heavy by the time the day has wound down and we're turning on the tv.
Special mention: Mushi-shi (the second season) is on Netflix for those that have never seen it. Beyond being anime it is unclassifiable, but it is one of the best shows I have ever seen in my life. Very cool, very imaginative and meditative, very smooth and relaxing, and very much the ticket for sitting back and chilling and going "Wtf?" over and over and over again.

Re: Your current favorite shows/movies on Netflix?
Loved Narcos. I'm currently watching the latest season of American Horror Story, but once I'm done with that, I think I'll be going to Narcos season 3.
Not big into documentaries, but sometimes I'm in the mood for one.
Anime isn't really my thing, but hey, you never know. One day I might just turn it on based on your recommendation lol.

Re: Your current favorite shows/movies on Netflix?
Yeah, I'm not into anime either -- too much screech and too little plot usually -- but Mushi-shi is the one I make an exception for. It's presumably set in the Japanese 1800s or thereabouts, but that's where any reality ends. The main protagonist, Ginko, is a guy who has the ability to see life forms that others do not, and basically wanders Japan acting as a folk doctor using his ability to see and interact with these other life forms ("mushi") to accomplish his goals and solve problems. The plots and problems are not anything you would normally imagine, the soundtrack is quiet and blissful in a very Japanese kind of way, and the art is beautiful to look at. The whole thing has a very Xanax-like quality to it. Zero swordfights, zero technology, all very rural and old-fashioned.
I actually consider it one of the best series ever made, not just the best anime series ever made. But it's definitely not everyone's cup of tea, and Netflix has only the second season and none of the specials. If you're interested, I would suggest watching the first episode of the first season on Youtube: while not the best episode it's not bad, and it will give you a good idea of what most of them are like. If you don't like that one, you won't like the rest either. Most episodes are short -- 24 minutes -- and are self-contained in terms of plot and characters, so you can watch them out of order and pick and choose the ones you like. The first season is available both subbed and dubbed, but the second season is only subbed as far as I know. If you get that far it won't matter.
In other news, aren't you a Walking Dead fan? I'm not, but I was sorry to hear of Scott Wilson's passing -- I was a fan of his work in other things -- but apparently he already filmed his Season 9 episodes so y'all are in luck.
I tried a couple of times to watch Ozark, but could never get all the way through the first episode... ah, well. I'm sure I'll try again in another moment of boredom.

Hey Gang, good topic, thanks for thinking about this...I'm pretty new to Neflix, so love the recommendations! My wife and I are currently watching Ozark and I'm enjoying it a lot. Try and get through a couple episodes Whiff, it gets better as it goes along. Our next venture will be Narcos. I have heard of this one and had wanted to see it anyway.
You guys might want to check out "Shameless" if you haven't seen it. It has a lot going on and is really good. About a very dysfunctional Family dealing with their particularly abnormal, normal life. We couldn't stop watching it, and saw all the old seasons...8 seasons maybe...over a hundred episodes I think
"The series was renewed for a ninth season, which premiered on September 9, 2018 and is the longest-running original scripted series in Showtime's history."
"The series depicts the dysfunctional family of Frank Gallagher, a single father raising six children. He spends his days drunk or in search of misadventures, and his children learn to take care of themselves. "The reality is that these people aren't 'the other people'—they're people who live four blocks down from you and two blocks over."
Ya'll will like this if it's new to you, trust me on this...

Will do.Try and get through a couple episodes Whiff, it gets better as it goes along.
Actually, that sounds like the people living in the house I grew up in. I really couldn't tell you what they were doing down the street or a few blocks over if only because I never had to look that far for drama."The series depicts the dysfunctional family of Frank Gallagher, a single father raising six children. Living in Florida, you probably have enough casual Spanish to really enjoy the asides in Narcos. The subtitles are great, but you'll probably get some of the implied stuff as well. I think you'll dig it.

Re: Your current favorite shows/movies on Netflix?
Only really started watching Netflix this year, so not too versed in movies/series on there.
Some notable ones I liked were Bleeding Edge, Fat Sick and Nearly Dead, and a few others I can't remember the names of. Mostly documentaries.
If you have Amazon Prime, I suggest Man in the High Castle. Currently season 3 just came out.

I'm watching that now; started catching up on Seasons 1 & 2 last week. It's a great binge watch.Man in the High Castle

Re: Your current favorite shows/movies on Netflix?
@labdog - I've had Shameless on my watchlist for a while, but haven't gotten to it quite yet. 8 seasons is a lot of binging to do! lol. I keep hearing great things about that show, so I'll definitely check it out.
@whiffy - definitely stick with Ozark. Fantastic show, and second season is better than the first.
@kratomkingcanada - it's in Spanish because it takes place mainly in Colombia and Mexico lol. I'm not a big fan of subtitles either, but I dealt with it because Narcos is so interesting and tense. Great show, and based on real events.
Right now I'm watching Glitch. It's an Australian show about people who have returned from the dead. Interesting concept, and the show is good enough to watch where it will keep you entertained. I watched the first season years ago, and just started watching season 2. The only thing I dislike about Netflix is that there is a year or more between seasons of shows.
Here's some more recommendations for those new to Netflix:
Bates Motel - great show from one of the creators of Lost. About a young Norman Bates, but made in the modern day. One of my favorites.
American Horror Story - each season is a new story, so it doesn't have to be watched in order. It has most of the same actors from season to season, but the story is totally new each season. Very violent/gory/bloody, so if that's not your cup of tea, you may want to pass this one up.
Black Mirror - a modern day Twilight Zone about the dangers of technology. Each show is standalone, so it's fantastic for a quick watch here or there.
And of course some classics if you haven't seen them - Lost, The Walking Dead, and Breaking Bad.

I really dug Glitch, and was sorry it got cancelled: it was just starting to get -really- good when it got the axe, IMO. But it wasn't silly like some of the genre can be.Right now I'm watching Glitch. It's an Australian show about people who have returned from the dead. I'll try Ozark again.

Glitch wasn't cancelled. Netflix renewed it for Season 3.
It may seem like it was cancelled though since there is like a 2 year delay between seasons.

Really! Last I heard -- which was right after season 2 appeared in Netflix -- was that the whole thing was canceled. I just looked it up though, and you're right, it's been renewed and will air next year. Cool! Thanks for letting me know or I'd have had no idea.e_poison wrote:Glitch wasn't cancelled. I have Ozark on my watchlist. Several people have recommended it. It looks like my type of show to binge watch. Some of my favorites are Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, The Sinner, The Fall, The Office (US). I’m a frequent binge watcher. I love documentaries too. Even for those not into them, I recommend “Making a Murderer” which is a docu-series. Part two will be released in about a week.e_poison wrote:What are your current favorite series or movies to watch on Netflix? I'm looking for some new things to watch!

You know what, I put on Narcos last night and realized I've already actually seen season 3. I forgot the Escobar story lasted 2 seasons.
So, I'm watching Colony season 2. Watched the first season a couple years back and really liked it.
Speaking of The Office, I'm ashamed to say I've never seen that classic. Until the other night. I finally just started watching it. It's pretty funny!

Ozark kind of reminds me of Breaking Bad, in a way. While it's a very different story and unique in all the right ways, the overall tone feels about the same. If you enjoyed Breaking Bad, I think you'll like Ozark too. Plus, Jason Bateman is an outstanding actor and absolutely nails the role.g-otis wrote:I have Ozark on my watchlist. Well, I -loved- Breaking Bad, so there's that. About how many episodes before Ozark starts to pick up and get lively? I'll suffer through a few slow ones if I know there's goodness waiting on the other side.

I didn’t start watching The Office until the sixth or seventh season, but my wife and daughter kept urging me to give it a try. It didn’t grab me at first, but after a few episodes I started getting the gist and ended up watching the whole series.
I mostly stick to the dark suspenseful mystery/thrillers, though. One of my all time favorites is 24. When Netflix started streaming it a few years back I gave a month or so of my life to it.
The Sinner is a little different type of mystery. You know up front who does the killing, but you don’t know why. I enjoyed it.

I watched season 1 back when it came out and just started season 2! I really enjoy the strong 80s vibe along with the great mix between paranormal and humor. It knows when to be funny and when to be serious. Pretty good show!MetalMamaRocks wrote:Stranger Things. I just hate it's not coming back until next June.

That sounds interesting. Wish I would have known about it earlier this year. I've been dieting since February, doing Intermittent Fasting since mid-September and am 6 pounds away from my goal weight, but it would still be interesting to watch.
One of my favorite scary books is The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. My niece by marriage tells me there's a Netflix series and it's really good so I think I'm going to watch it. I still have to finish Afflicted too.

My wife and I are about to watch Haunting of Hill House. It’s been getting great reviews. I just finished season 3 of Fargo on Hulu. It’s not for everyone, but it is one of the best tv shows out there. It really adheres to the style of the movie (regional dialect, dark humor, and violence) but otherwise contains separate stories for each season. Highly recommended.e_poison wrote:I watched the Haunting of Hill House show on Netflix. It’s really good! Creepy and a really great storyline. I binged it last week lol. I have so many shows on my list, too many actually. I did start Ozark and it is pretty good so far. My sister said season two is even better.

It really adheres to the style of the movie (regional dialect, dark humor, and violence) but otherwise contains separate stories for each season. Highly recommended.
I have so many shows on my list, too many actually. I did start Ozark and it is pretty good so far. My sister said season two is even better.
The Haunting of Hill House is really good. One night I was just browsing through Netflix and saw it under my recommended section and decided to give it a watch since I love horror/thrillers. Glad I did. Took about 2 episodes to hook me in, and then I ended up binging the entire 10 episodes over a few days. There are some really creepy scenes and the writing is seriously excellent.
Glad you're liking Ozark, it's one of my current favorites for sure! I agree with your sister - season 2 is definitely better than season 1.

Maniac was pretty good. I also liked Ozark. Better call Saul is AMC but it's on Netflix too so I guess it's fair game

Wife and i watched Sharp Objects and really enjoyed it. Thanks for the rec. Right now we're watching Broadchurch (British) and it's pretty good. Not sure if it's on Netflix though. I use a stream service cuz i get tired of waiting on seasons to land on Netflix.

I use free movie sites mostly for watching stuff, try out these sites for free movies and tv.
Solarmoviez.ru
123movieshub.sc
Putlocker.co
Ymovies.tv
You can always search, pulocker or 123movies or yify.tv to find the sites. Sometimes the sites change web addresses so if it brings you the a different site or says its a bad web address just google up those and it should provide you with some results.
Only thing is that there are lots of pop ups so i would recommend installing a pop up blocker such as adblock plus or adblock ultimate beforehand. You can always just close the popup web redirects but its easier to just use an adblocker.
Hope that helps people with free media, i know i havent paid for media in over 10 years, lol, hope you wont have to either

Re: Your current favorite shows/movies on Netflix?
Just binged both seasons of netflix's show Slasher. The name turned me off for a while since it sounded like a cheesy slasher horror show, but I decided to give it a go this past week and was pleasantly surprised. It's a whodunit type murder mystery and each season is a different story. I liked season 2 the best since the twist was brilliant, but they were both good. It had strong American Horror Story vibes, and I can tell AHS was definitely an influence, but it's still unique in it's own way. Anyway, if you don't mind a little blood/gore and want a good mystery, I'd say give it a watch!

Well, I started to watch The Haunting of Hill House. I think I got about 7 minutes in.
This is not something I'm going to be able to watch by myself. In the night. In the dark.
I'll watch it during the daytime.

Just started Luther. On second season already and hot damn it's so good. I tend to go on binges. Usually sci-fi or BBC. Lot of fandoms

First few seasons were so good. Up until the terminus stuff was the last really cool parts IMO. I did like Negan’s debut, but after that idk. I think after awhile the show exposed itself as truly a zombie soap opera and I’m not feelin that. This last season was the first time I was like, “I’m done” and I am happy about it.e_poison wrote:I know that feeling.cheddarbear wrote:walking dead (love/hate this show)![]()

I loved Dark. I had to watch it twice cuz I was getting lost trying to keep up with the time travel and year they were in. Can’t wait for season 2.cheddarbear wrote:Stranger Things

Re: Your current favorite shows/movies on Netflix?
Dark definitely has a very complex and and intricately woven storyline. It can be difficult trying to keep track of whose who in all the timelines, how all the characters relate to each other, and how all the family trees work. Still though, it's an excellent surreal show with lots of mysteries. There's so many little details, clues, and nuances I didn't notice the first time that I was able to pick up on the 2nd time through. Excited for season 2 as well!
Found a few more shows I really enjoy to add to the thread:
Jericho - an older show from the mid 2000s than only ran 2 seasons, but it's very good and worth a watch. It was actually cancelled after the first season, but there was such an outcry from fans, they released a second season to wrap the story up. It's about people in a small town in Kansas surviving after a doomsday scenario (I won't spoil too much). There were rumors of a Netflix reboot of the series, but not sure if that will ever pan out.
Peaky Blinders - This was a show I went into knowing nothing about, and now it's easily in my top 5 of all time. What an amazing show. It's about the rise of a gangster family in Birmingham, England between world war 1 and 2. It takes a couple episodes to get moving, but once I got into it, I binged the entire series to date. From what I hear, there are a few more seasons coming. While I'm awaiting a lot of new seasons for a lot of shows, this is the one I'm most excited for.
