Aeropress Filters
I’m finally ready to try and switch to tea. I currently use oblates but very often I find myself throwing up my 3rd dose of the day. I know that it’s because I haven’t eaten all day so I can feel the effects of my doses. But hopefully switching to tea will solve this as I remember reading that with tea your dose isn’t affected as much by what you eat.
So my question is what size filter do I use ? I know that the paper ones aren’t the best to use but they sell a small, medium and coarse grind filter. I don’t use crushed leaf, just regular powder. What size does everyone else use ?

Re: Aeropress Filters
The problem with the Aeropress is you'll need to be pretty strong to press out through the filter small enough to really get most of the "junk" out of the Kratom. I would advise you to start with a metal filter, though - I got the best results using that.
While I've done it with my ethanol tinctures I don't know why the same filtration process I use there wouldn't work for tea - in that I use a Buckner filter system (which can be put together for less than $100). In that case you will get COMPLETELY clear liquid in just a few minutes with no effort at all. I'm tempted to try it with tea sometime just to see how it would work.

What size metal filter.? There are different sizes for different grinds. They do have one though that is a one size, all grinds. I wish I knew how to link or I would link it here.Kelleytoons wrote: ↑Tue May 24, 2022 10:12 am The problem with the Aeropress is you'll need to be pretty strong to press out through the filter small enough to really get most of the "junk" out of the Kratom. Re: Aeropress Filters
It depends on how much "stuff" you want to try and remove. And it's a tradeoff between removing that stuff and how hard you have to press to get it to work.
Let me give you an analogy using the Buckner filter process. When I first start, I put a very coarse filter on it, around 20-30 microns. This gives me a "hockey puck" of about 95% of all the Kratom. And it works so easily/quickly that I barely need to use the vacuum - it just kind of flows through in about 30 seconds. But the second pass, using a very fine 1.5 micron filter, could take a couple of minutes and test the vacuum of the process.
The same is true of the Aeropress. If you have a very fine filter on it the effort to press down can be tremendous (it's the main reason I returned the Aeropress and investigated other methods). Now - the one thing I did NOT try was doing multiple filter passes and if I still had mine I think that's what I would do. Start off with a VERY coarse filter and just get the main solids out, and run it through at least one more time with a finer filter. That might actually work well even though the Aeropress isn't designed to work that way (but, of course, it ain't designed for Kratom anyway). You still will be unlikely to get as clear a final product as I can easily get with the Buckner, but it will be a helluva lot easier (the problem I used to have with the Aeropress is that using a very fine filter I would sometime press so hard that it would come back UP through the Aeropress and make a huge mess).
If you DO try multiple passes through different filters and it works for you be sure to post the results here, because a lot of folks would appreciate that info. I still think I'm going to try "tea" with my Buchner system sometime just for fun, even though the taste of Kratom makes me gag.

Re: Aeropress Filters
I purchased the The Mesh by Altura about 2 years ago on Amazon. Just checked & it's on sale for $9.71. Seems to work well with about 3g of powder & becomes more difficult with more powder. I have had blowouts like Kelley mentions which are rather messy. I sometimes place the aeropress on top of a towel just in case. If you have time do an aeropress filter search for lots of info from Ace, Ballz , & others.

Re: Aeropress Filters
So with the aero press, I'd have some recommendations. For Nano powder, the paper filters are perfect, and can just pour and let drip and push the last bit. For micro, the Ameuus metal filters seem to work best, but we find the reverse method is best with them. For coarse and crushed leaf, the fellows prismo is essential, it is so awesome. Need about a minute for each g to steep. For each, we fill to the 4 on the press with boiling hot water.

Re: Aeropress Filters
Thanks for the info everyone. I’ve read all the tea entries when they first came out and followed them closely. I just couldn’t remember if everyone had decided on the best filter or not.
I think decreasing the filter size as you suggested Kelleytoons might be best for me as I’m not able to push very hard, which would be a problem with only one filter. I would love something like the Buckner but am not mechanically inclined enough to put it together.
Amazon has 2 filter set that look interesting. One is the Ameuus that FusedFlora mentioned and the other has 3 filters of decreasing pore size. Since I’m not able to push hard I think I’ll go with the set of 3.
I will definitely post my results as soon as I get everything assembled and give it a go. Thanks everyone !

Re: Aeropress Filters
I agree with Fused Flora, Paper filters work OK for powder kratom, Nano grind does take longer... like an extra couple minutes. You don't have to press Super hard for 3 minutes, just stand there with a hand steady pressing. It seems to not be moving for 1+ minute. But it is moving, very slowly... then suddenly the air bubble gives way, and whooosh... you're done. It's an extra < 2 minutes, big deal. Add 1 Teaspoon of loose leaf Green Tea, or even better Guayusa Tea, helps add some fiber to the mix.Kelleytoons wrote: ↑Tue May 24, 2022 2:42 pm If you have a very fine filter on it the effort to press down can be tremendous (it's the main reason I returned the Aeropress and investigated other methods).
Of Course, the whole thing works better using a Half n Half mix with Crushed Leaf kratom - which is probably stronger Per Gram compared to powder anyway ? The Metal filters I got, are called: Bean N Leaf, Fine Steel... got 2 on Amazon for reasonable price. In My experience they allow TOO much powder through.

Re: Aeropress Filters
I have no problem waiting an extra few minutes for the paper filters. I read on here that they can even be rinsed and reused.
I know you’ve been doing tea for a long time Ballz. Have you ever just steeped it in the Aeropress itself ? I don’t have one yet but I was reading their instruction manual and they talked about brewing in the aeropress itself, by inverting it. Have you or anyone else ever tried this ?

I steep in my aero press all the time, it's fine. That's what makes the fellows prismo a beautiful tool.MycatTimmy wrote: ↑Thu May 26, 2022 11:20 am I have no problem waiting an extra few minutes for the paper filters. I read on here that they can even be rinsed and reused.

I do reuse the paper filters from time to time, but 99% of the time I let them drain naturally, and then just push the air for the last few drops (so they're not stressed much in the first place). If you push all the way after pouring, you can risk blowing the filter if you press too hard, so I don't... The whole goal for me is no plant matter, so nothing worse than the filter failing and wasting a whole process/dose/time because I put body weight on it. I did blow a out a paper coffee cup out once too... yeah I know, I didn't think through it.
Short, if it's hard to push for you, then it's prob not meant to be pushed at that moment. Keep in mind, it was designed for coffee, which is usually very coarse compared to kratom (taking less time to drain through).
