Placebo or nocebo effect with new batches and vendors?

Post by Trippyhippydippy »

How many of you feel like you experience placebo effect potentially or nocebo effect with strains and vendors? I believe you can manifest a small fraction of your kratom experience.

The nocebo effect is the opposite of the placebo effect. It describes a situation where a negative outcome occurs due to a belief that the intervention will cause harm. It is a sometimes forgotten phenomenon in the world of medicine safety.

I mean, it is a plant. One year my grandmas peach tree grew the best peaches I’ve ever had. And I’ve lived a Jacksonville fl and have had Georgia peaches. I say that to say, private vendors (Georgia) will have consistently better leaf but a bulk supplier (grandmas tree) may produce some fire. The farm down the street usually has THE SWEETEST watermelon. Yesterday the one at Walmart was better. The best one I ever had was a yellow one from shop right

I’ve recently found a “bulk” supplier that has enough he charges enough and keeps enough on hand that he just doesn’t sell weaker batches and resells it at bulk price and takes a loss. I guess, you have to be semi-big to do that, if “private vendors” 50kg shipment isn’t hitting they still sell it. He CLAIMS to keep 200 kilos in stash so if his 50kg new shipment isn’t fire, he just sells it to smoke shops

Because I don't have great expectations one way or the other I don't think I actually feel either effect. I mean, because I have SO many strains (probably more than 100) and take each one only every six weeks or so I really never know what to expect. I take it and then... wow, that feels great. Or, hmmm, not much there. But either way, I don't "tag" that particularly strain so nothing to judge next time (I used to journal but then it became ridiculous - it would be hundreds of pages now, with no good way to catalog it).

I think if I *had* to say what I feel most about every single Kratom dose I take is... surprise. Could be good (mostly is, obviously), could be bad, but it's never boring and always fun experimenting.

I don't. I try all my strains many times, different times of the day, different conditions. if something doesn't work, I wait a couple weeks and try it again. I won't really give up on a strain til it has missed consistently. once that happens, i put it away, but still keep it to try again in a year or so...we've all had those strains that seem to start working out of nowhere.

I think that certain people are more prone to the placebo effect, but that doesn't mean that everyone is. I fully accept that my own experiences could be a result of placebo, but it's less likely to happen many times over the long term. I understand enough about my own mind to realize if I'm "making" the effect work or not work...at least I think I do. I allow the kratom to do what it does.

if you really get down to it, no one can be ultimately "sure" of anything, but that's a philosophical rabbit hole.

some people say that strains don't exist, and that's fine. call them batches if you want. but I don't really think you can argue against there being a ton of nuance between one batch and the next. there is a difference between good kratom, and bad, unbalanced kratom. you can't blame it all on placebo (generally speaking).

I totally agree with each of you! Just curious to hear everyone's take there is so many factors involved to each burn, but sometimes i obviously get the same strain, same bag, and same batch and it hits insanely good compared to the burn before. i wonder like was that my mind??? Its odd but there's to many factors to know for sure. Time of day, mood, positivity happing around me that day etc etc.

The other thing is I've never had a red strain work or yellow. so i was thinking maybe its the nocebo in effect lol.... i need to do a blind study.

Pretty much the same here, cept 'red' strains usually do seem 'slower' or more relaxing, so I don't buy them any more (I can be tired for free ha-ha). But a white or green that was great one week, might not really do anything the next week. I just take my kratom and get on with my day, if it works then awesome, and if it doesn't, well, maybe next time. I mean there are no side effects (for me anyways) and each dose costs me like $0.35, what -could- I expect as far as consistency or amazing results every time ha-ha.
